Are you serious? :boggled:

Try interpreting the words in the very first post of this thread and see if you can figure out the glaringly obvious answer!

Oh, i guess i didnt read that. I'm gonna try to get under 800 days, and im progressing well, just got the Cadillac Cien and the RSC rally car. BTW, whats the minimum amount of cars to buy to get 100%?

WOW I have just read this thread and crikey I'm amazed at the effort, determination and pure awsomeness. Well done to everyone who has completed this huge challenge. I can only wish one day I would be that good.

A wise move by Smallhorses to allow the Daihatsu Midget to cool-down after such a taxing race.

I may have irretrievably damaged my Midget by turning off its high-reving motor before allowing the oil to circulate properly and cool off its highly tuned 34HP engine.

I will ask my pit crew to run a dyno test and search for any missing horsepower.

See you at the races
GTsail
You take care of that Midget, GTsail, that's an impressive piece of high-tech motor sport weaponry.
Paul, that's an astonishing rate of progress. I'm trying to say 'well done' but the phrase is utterly inadequate.

Wow, thats a lot of gaming on my hands. I've got three targets:

Get 100% in under 800 game days
Finish it in A-Spec only (i use b spec too much)
And do it before november the 2nd, 2010. So i can get started with GT5.

But on a serious question, how many days did they take to do it? Not game days, real life days. I've heard that someone finished the game, a spec only, in 1 year?

From my post earlier in this thread:

All right, it took me over six months and two PS/2s, but I finished this all A-spec minimum game days with all gold licenses...

That's while holding down a full-time job, plus the other responsibilities related to a wife and two kids. I would guess that you need to do somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 hours actually driving, and probably 20 hours doing non-driving game activities (buying cars, buying parts, tweaking car settings, etc.) So figure about 220 hours to get through the game. So you could probably do it in 3 months if you could dedicate 2.5 hours a day to the game.

I honestly can't believe how tired I am..!

I left a single TVR race, at Laguna Seca, for last, so that I only had a short, and enjoyable, race to finish off with, rather than run the risk of a power cut mid-endurance race...

I forgot to add that my Excel file tells me it took me 202 hours 20'16.694 in total, though that excludes 5 races which either had too much wallbanging for my liking (cough Grand Canyon cough) or I simply forgot to record the time of.

Looks like im going to get finished before my deadline. Anyway, im nearing 25%. I already have the Suzuki Escudo, which completely dominates against JGTC car. I haven't even bought a car yet.

Greetings all -

Game progress:
Percent complete: 95.2%
Game Day: 792
A-spec points: 78,921
Race wins: 497
Car with most miles: Opel Speedster '00: 891.4 miles
Car with fewest miles: Daihatsu Midget D-Type '98: 3.6 miles
Car with most A-spec points: Nissan Motul Pitwork Z '04: 3400 pts
Car with fewest A-spec points: Chevy Camaro LM Race Car: 3 points

I have just completed all of the One-Make Races with a 200 point win in my VW New Beetle 2.0 '00 at the Fuji 2005 race track.

All I have left are the long endurance races, 1000 miles!, the 15 race GT Worlds, and M34. Next up I think is the 8 hour Motegi race.

*snip*...
But on a serious question, how many days did they take to do it? Not game days, real life days. I've heard that someone finished the game, a spec only, in 1 year?

I think that jbrennen's estimate of 3 months is very accurate.

For comparison, I started my current game on June 30th, and have reached 95% in two months. If everything goes as expected, it will probably take me another 6 weeks to complete the game (3 1/2 months in total). I have not gone for all gold licenses (the mix is about 20/30/30), so I've saved some time there, but my game is entirely A-spec.

Keep in mind though that my current game has progressed much quicker than my first game run-thru, because I spend far less time searching for suitable cars since I already know what each race is like, and I have an idea about what car I should use for each race.

Another game update (from 9/14):
Percent complete: 96.6%
Game Day: 803
A-spec points: 80,321
Race wins: 504
Car with most miles: AMG Mercedes CLK-GTR Race Car: 3,461.6 miles
Car with fewest miles: Daihatsu Midget D-Type '98: 3.6 miles
Car with most A-spec points: Nissan Motul Pitwork Z '04: 3400 pts
Car with fewest A-spec points: Chevy Camaro LM Race Car: 3 points

As you can see, I used the AMG Mercedes CLK-GTR for the 1st 24 hour La Sarthe race. Fairly straightforward 200 point race. It does get somewhat boring by the end.:yuck:

Another game update (from 10/10):
Percent complete: 98.1%
Game Day: 814
A-spec points: 82,121
Race wins: 513
Car with most miles: BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97: 3,712 miles
Car with fewest miles: Daihatsu Midget D-Type '98: 3.6 miles
Car with most A-spec points: Nissan Motul Pitwork Z '04: 3400 pts
Car with fewest A-spec points: Chevy Camaro LM Race Car: 3 points

I have a new "most miles" leader with the BMW McLaren F1, since I used it at La Sarthe II (24 hour race) and picked up another 200 points. Very straightforward race again. If I can find my brief notes, I will post them in the endurance thread.

Respectfully,

Well thanks for the info. I have a bit more time on my hands so i should be able to make it before november 2nd. The only thing i fear is the 24 hour races, since 'consistensy' is something i'm not good at.

As noted by jbrennen, we need to skip the Family Cup if we want a 1st of June Society game:

*snip*...Don't buy any wings. Don't sell a car... ever. Don't buy any car other than the 32 that you need to buy. No practice, no machine test, no family cup, nothing like that.....:)

Its an interesting anomaly!

Just for fun I took my Lancia Delta S4 to a family cup race and reviewed the before and after stats:

Stat ............ Before ........ After
------- ^^^^ ------- ^^^ ------
Game Day ...... 794 ......... 795
Wins ........... 498 .......... 499
A-spec pts .... 79,121 ....... 79,321
Percent ......... 95.4% ...... 95.4%

You can see that the game considers the Family Cup race to take a game day, and rewards you with some points (200 in this case), but your percentage completion does not change.

I have not decided whether I will run the race anyway even if it costs an un-necessary game day.

Respectfully,
GTsail

FINISHED!!!

My final race was a nice 200 point win at Nurburgring in the 4 hour Endurance Race in my Chrysler Crossfire '04 against lineup # 5, which includes the following: Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C, Chevy Corvette Grand Sport, Mazda RX-8 Type S, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo MR GSR, BMW M Coupe.

I am three days over the minimum days since I got carried away when doing the license tests. I have the Silver and Gold License prize cars for the Domestic A License, and the Silver prize car for the International B License. Otherwise I'm at the minimum with only 32 cars purchased.

Breakdown of Game Days:

Wow, impressive accomplishment, congratulations! I wish I had anywhere near the skill required to pull this off.

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you in actual days (and if you happen to have kept a record of it, total hours)? 109 days, or did I miscalculate?

Thanks, I started this game on June 30th and finished this morning (I had to run the last hour or so in the Nurburgring race), so essentially its 110 days. I did not keep track of the hours (I leave that kind of detail to Famine:bowdown:), so I don't really know the number of hours. I guess I could estimate the average race speed and calculate something since I know the number of miles driven.

Alrightish then.
About a year & 3 months ago while waiting for GT5 to emerge I came across this thread and decided that with GT5 release delayed a bit, this would pass the time...ooookay then. I did buy GT5 on release day, and my collector's edition is still in it's plastic wrap, having never been opened. Why?
Well, I'm no quitter, I have legendary patience and, well, I just had to finish this quest first! :sly:
Unfortunately it's been a hectic year and a bit that've seen some major changes in my work, my wife's work and I've been traveling quite a lot. GTP sadly lost out as I was forced to focus elsewhere for a while, but I've nibbled away at this journey when time has permitted and have resisted the temptation to splurge on a PS3, HDTV & G27 to begin GT5 on. All, however, is well, we're both happy, a little better off and we're now a 4 car family! (Yeah I know, 2 cars each isn't exactly "green" but we're no ecomentalists!!! :P & besides we can only ever drive a maximum of 2 at a time!)

So without further ado, onto the main presentation!

Yup, that's another 100% A-spec only run, and like my previous run was done entirely without the use of NOS, and this time without the Dodge Ram featuring at all. 👍
An all-gold, 835-day perfect game. :D

Full details of every car, race, and modifications used can be found in the attached (zipped) Excel spreadsheet.

In all, I drove 75 cars, once I'd been in a car I was forbidden from re-entering it (my own self-imposed rule) so it took a lot of careful planning.
I left the Miata until last, completing the Japanese 80's events & NR-A Roadster Cup before I finished this evening with the Roadster 4h Endurance (an awesome, clean, no-shortcutting, no-ramming, no-NOS race for 189 A-spec points!) just so I could have my final garage shot with a white NA Miata in the picture! :D
(If you don't know why this is significant, just ask or check out my photo albums here! ;))

Anyway, can I join this extremely exclusive club now Famine?!

Thanks jbrennen! Means a lot coming from someone like yourself who has been there and got the T-shirt! :)

Also, where are my manners?, congrats to GTSail290 for his efforts in the pursuit of his own personal goal here too. 👍

Wow, congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment, and one likely I'll never achieve.

Nice to see you around again too, it's been a while.

Is it just me or is Smallhorses Zip file attachment not working?
Also kudos on the achievement, thats a fair haul of A-spec points (hence my interest in it) for a minimum days run.

It seems to be working fine for me. It downloads as a 33KB .zip file which extracts to an Excel file in 97-2003 worksheet format. 👍
Thanks for all the messages of congrats too!

.zips can be quirky. If you're using Internet Explorer, don't.

Great job Smallhorses!

Well done!

I like your heavy use of the two old Rally cars:tup:

I never have much luck opening zipped files, so can I ask where you used the Volvo 240 GLT?

I'm a child of the 70's so there's a lot of appeal to cars born in the same decade as me!!! I love the Lancia Stratos Rally Car, and it just seemed right to give it a full 24hr run at Nurburgring. :D
The '74 Lancer was used once again to get a stock 200pt race at Motegi 8h Endurance.
So, technically as both cars only did 1 race each I'd hardly call it "heavy usage", but in terms of mileage, those are a couple of the longest races in the game!
In the beginning I was trying to use the same cars for as many things as possible, but I left my beloved endurance races until last and I decided that I would use a different car for each of the 16 races.
While I didn't go all-out for the highest possible points in every race or series, I did set myself an average goal of at least 100 points / race, and early on (after golding all licences & finishing all 34 missions before I started any races) I put this statement into my spreadsheet: "Want to avoid winning same car as driven as much as possible, but as cheaply as possible, no NOS, no Ram and as many A-Spec as possible without becoming a chore, however, once a car is exited it can't be driven again."
As it turns out I was able to average 135 A-spec points per race for 522 races. :) (78980 - 8500 (for missions) / 522 = 135)
In the case of the Volvo, I just have a soft spot for that lumbering old beasty so I wanted to race it somewhere, and I used it for the Sunday Cup in Beginner Hall where it averaged about 140 points per race.

If you want a copy of the unzipped Excel spreadsheet (123KB) to check out, drop me a PM with an email address in it and I'll shoot you a copy. ;)

Wow, that's pretty incredible SH. That spreadsheet is brilliant. It reads like a novel to a GT4 fan, we can see where you've planned the purchases, changed strategy mid-competition, chosen favourite cars to use etc.

Once again you raise the bar SmallHorses, well done.

And the white Miata was a nice touch.
