the a.i is very ruthless in this game especially in the karting events if you braked or slowed down they wil smack you into the grass and turn around and proceed to give you the finger
 
Im trying to do "Like the wind" and when i try and block them its like they aim to fish tail me.

And i've said this numerous times in other complaint threads, but only 2 people dealed with the AI according to the Credits.
 
The problem is not so much the AI. You're put in a position where you have to pass 10 cars in 2 laps. You're forced to do some very bad overtaking so of course the AI will bump you when you're...

1. braking late to beat them.
2. Passing them on the inside when they have the line.

This. I've tried the last nascar event where you are in 11th place and need to overtake 10 cars in 2 laps.. if I do manage to come close to first place all cars are blocking the road and there seems to be no way to overtake them.. on top of that a red car usually slams me from behind when I'm on the final straight, hitting me into the wall.

There's just too much cars to pass without bumping into one of them, even real race drivers can pull of these kind of challenges 1 in a 100 times at most
 
ive spent the last hour getting disqualified from the IA-10 license test because of the brain dead AI. i needed to take a break and vent. i remember when contact on the back half of the car was fine, man oh man, im sooo poisoned with this game right now. c'mon PD, get your blankity blank blank together!

Well... i am bad at real karting, but in GT it is easy. Resist the urge to overtake the 1st and wait until the last half of the final lap, then overtake... 100percent win for me.

The AI is bad and stubborn, even in A-Spec races. To overcome this i come to race over powered. I tried to play fair, but the other cars where not acting as their real counterparts, reaching speeds impossible with the real deal. So, i just go in front even though it means unlocking crazy-godpowered-drivingskills for the opponent i stole the gold from. As long as i put enough seconds ahead i am safe.

As a note, i am only level 15, AI may change at higher levels.
 
Two instances last night were totally annoying me .... one was the muscle car race at monza (pro level i think)... about 10 race starts i got 'stuck' by the car behind and dragged off the track and pitched into a spin

Other was the idiotic b-spec... doing the french championship in la sarth ... having spent a lap carefully getting b-spec man into the lead he was about 50m clear of the 2nd place car or so .... he slightly overcooks turn 4 or 5 and runs wide off the track where he proceeds to brake and STOP DEAD and wait until all 11 other competitors are well passed him before he rejoins the track... its crazy ... he was still facing in the right direction when he ran wide ... he could have just corrected and rejoined in 2nd without any difficulty (2nd place man was a good 3 seconds in front of 3rd place)

He did this about 5 times in a row despite even telling him to back-off pace coming up to that 1 corner ... he always ran wide and stops

The problem with i see with the whole gt series AI is the fact that they are scripted period, but they almost have to be given the nature of the challenges i mean put you in back of a 10 cars pass them in 2 laps and stuff like that if the AI was smart or adjusting those challenges would be unbeatable. But in gt those cars will be traveling at a set pace on a set line making set mistakes in a set way and your job as much as anything is to figure out the pattern and find a way to draft and pass your way to the front.

Actual racing AI seems a hair better than in years past. But still needs a ton of work. But then anyway we got 16 player online racing if we want ok to unbeatable ai ;P.
 
I drove the NASCAR school thing yesterday, and I got so pissed off at the AI constantly pulling PIT maneuvers on me. Is that allowed in real NASCAR? or is that just how Americans "race"?

Don't drive like an idiot, and don't make stupid passes by braking impossibly late and cutting inside the corner where the AI is already turning into it's racing line, and you won't have any problems with the AI, promise.

Basically, you are saying drive, but don't take any risks! I want to win races, not cosy poorly scripted AI. Besides, you HAVE to late brake the AI into the corners, or you suffer the moving road block syndrome that the AI in this game seems to favour.

I've never played GT 1-3, but GT4 hardly had anything that could be called AI with a straight face. It had train cars.

Hey, I'd gladly swap the AI in GT4, for the AI in this game - its that bad. Maybe you are playing a different game to me, but in the game I am playing, the AI drivers drive ignorantly into you, are seemingly glued to the racing line, are constantly spinning you out in close encounters, and are driving well below the expected pace.

Edit: Since I posted, I have had one race that I thought was acceptable, it was the Nurburgring race in Gran Turismo All-Stars. A following race, in Cape ring, was a nightmare though, I got spun out seven times! :eek:

I love how all these complainers come out in force and talk about the AI that they haven't even experienced yet. GO DO SOME REAL RACES, NOT THE LICENSE TESTS AND SPECIAL EVENTS. These are SCRIPTED events! Why? Because they aren't races, they're TESTS. Meant to be far more difficult than a regular race. The AI is fantastic in this game.

my friend i have almost the a-spec mode completed and let me say you something , the AI in gt5 is stupid,ramming, bugged , and incomplete.
 
The AI on this game is just terrible. They follow the racing line religiously and honestly im not evens sure if they know im there half the time! :banghead:
 
I hate to burst anyones bubble here, or to come across as a bragging tool, but....
I studied Computer Science for 4 years, a portion of which was in the area of AI. My final year project was an AI based project. So think I can speak with a little authority when I say that the AI used in this game is dreadful, and hasn't changed in any major way since the first GT game.
Possible reasons for this?
1) Programming good/realistic AI is difficult.
2) Good AI can be hardware intensive (lots of CPU cycles needed to iterate through possible choices or actions, lots of RAM needed to hold those choices)
3) Its just not a focus and never has been for PD to make the other drivers seem realistic
 
Just look a gameplay vid GRID and compare it to one from GT5 and then compare them both to a DTM race. That should open every fanboys eyes about the AI.

I was struggling with that event last night. I resorted to getting in to 7th place (needed for bronze) and holding that position for the rest of the race. I'll go back to get gold at some point in the future.

There was one race, I was massively under powered, and I was against heaps of race cars. There was only one that I couldn't beat, but I started right behind it and I had better acceleration. As soon as we took off, I ram him, the front of my car goes under his spoiler, lifts his back wheels off the ground like a wheelbarrow and he'd spin out. Wouldn't see him for the rest of the race.
When I drive online though I don't do this at all. Not to say I've never hit an opponent, but I try my best to avoid it.
 
I feel your pain.

I was on course for victory at Daytona in the Supercar race in my Buick Special only to be spun around by a Pagani Zonda, to say the least i was not happy.

It also happened at High speed ring by a Yellow Enzo.

The worse one is being DQ'ed when a Car hits you, Isnt that like being badly fouled in a Football match than you get the Red Card for it?
 
Definitely annoying because if you really think about it, the game now is just about having the best machine under you and avoiding getting spun out or DQ'd by the comp.

Heh, that's how I beat the stupid historic car challenge. You're up against the Chaparral 2J which you have little to no hope of beating around Monaco. So I put him in the wall in the first corner and went on to win. I'd feel less bad about it if the AI didn't try and do the same to me all the time.
 
That's great. It can handle stationary objects. Now if it would just stop brake checking, PIT maneuvering, running wide into the dirt instead of tucking in behind, running into the back of me instead of passing me, and all the other things then it would be nice.

Don't get me wrong, some of the time it works pretty well. In my experience, it seems to depend a lot on the type of car the AI is driving. But there are definitely times when it just does dumb stuff. Annoyingly dumb. Race endingly dumb. Like leaning on the rear quarter of my NASCAR until I spin out. Happens with alarming regularity.

If you haven't, I recommend playing some B-Spec and you'll quickly see what we're talking about. It's not that the AI is completely incompetent, it can make it's way around a track. It's just...I don't know how to describe it. It's not something that I feel I can compete against, it's merely an obstacle on the track to be avoided. Other racing games I've played recently, which I shan't name, have done much better at providing a worthy yet fair challenge in the AI. It's disappointing, because I'd love to use GT5's great physics to have an awesome race against the AI.

It would be nice if we could actually spin out the AI cars as easily as they can spin us out. Fair is fair, they can PITT me into the wall with minimal effort but I can barely put them into the dirt? Annoying!

You know how many times I tried and failed to crush those :censored:heads into the wall?:mad: I can't even win the in the McLaren F1 GT Championship in the Nurburgring or Madrid because I keep getting attacked by the GT-Rs and SC300s. Hell in Cape Ring one time I tried to punt some Kei cars for fun in a Veyron, and I spin out hitting them on the back, while they keep going on their rails. I tried to reverse, and for some reason I couldn't spin back around, something had caught on to me and was dragging me along. I looked to the right and it was a Honda Step Van, and I let it drag my Veyron around the entire banked loop (now using all 1000+ to go foward now and the hell out, all tires smoking).
To fix the problem, I want this added to my car

I don't understand. How is it that the AI is worse than prologue? I though it was a huge improvement in prologue, and yet in six years PD have managed to produce this cr#p? It's pathetic
 
The GT5 AIs...sign......

Can't remember how many times I wanted to throw my controller during Lisense Tests, especially the S-Lisense. As for other races' AIs, I got rammed and pushed out of the road even in Expert Events (A-Spec). As some said above, it's either driving far ahead or stucked with these dump AIs.

Basically, it's the same as GT4's AI system: railing and no mistakes. Although AIs in NFS: Shift also ram you, they do make mistakes sometimes.

PD really need to do something about their AI system, even the most experienced professional racers crash their cars in real world.
 
I've seen the AI crash, and seen them get pressured if you're tailing them, I've mostly noticed this in b-spec. If there's a guy out in 1st place by himself I'll gradually make my way up to him, after a few attempts to pass he will often make some mistakes, then tire out (physical strength drops) and fall back enough for me to pass. After this he often falls back enough to almost rejoin the rest of the pack.

Speaking of b-spec, I think that has a lot to do with the AI being worse than prologue. They've probably tried to make all the AI unique like your b-spec drivers (hot or cool tempered) with different skills. Something I've noticed from b-spec is that your driver will go down in temprement when they lose control, like it's a reality check and they slow down. This is great, only, they don't do the same when making contact. So if they're in the red, which the AI almost always are because they're in a pack and having other cars around keeps them on edge, as in bspec, they're going to be agressive and seemingly have no problem making contact if you're in their way. On top of this, they don't settle down at all when they make contact, so since they're in the red, they just keep trying to drive through you.

There needs to be a condition set into making contact where they try and back off after doing so. Theres a bit problem in this though, my b-spec drivers often hit the cars they are trying to overtake! As well as bump drafting them into corners when being agressive. If all this made them back off b-spec would be even more annoying.
