The AI thread

New GT5 AI at work.

Commence AI battle you cant really pass them with out them fighting back now... I know they still run into you. But im highly impressed with how agressive they are...Plus the AI delivers a little surprise at the end to the player LOL,

Beautiful music... beautiful track... God GT5 look's 5x better then GT5p. The car's and tokyo just look amazing, And love the New draw distance.

And the song has a granturismo feel to it.

:sly: at the PIT maneuver

Sorry I've not read the whole tread, but are we talking about the same AI here ... the one that still -needs- to get back on the racing line even though you're on it & will happily spin you out in the process?

Looking at the GC vids it's the one area that's making me doubtful about getting gt5 ... :nervous:

Can't see any improvements there( I honestly think AI is acting like always), I got to ask how can anyone seriously judge the quality with these youtube- low quality videos anyway ?

What I see is that fugly map is still there lol :nervous:

I think I've seen most of the vids from Gamerscom and IMO I don't see any real improvements. The AI cars seem as oblivious to your presence as they always have. *sigh*

But I'll be playing online against Real people anyway so **** it. How good ( or not good ) the AI is really doesn't much make any difference from my perspective.

I'm MUCH more interested in the nuts and bolts of how the Online play will function. I can't wait to play online with/against ALL OF YOU, not some AI :)

As pointed out though AI is something that is really easily patched so if it's bad then it's hopefully not something we will be stuck with the whole time

Well, if it's as "bad" as Prologue, I'll be happy. I quit racing Prologue online because the cars are driven by the bots amazingly like the people I raced online, and there's not 3 or 4 cars, but 16 of them. Having a full field of cars beats an empty online experience.

I know that GT5 servers are going to be full of people, but I doubt the online experience, for me anyway, is going to make single player races seem boring.

The thing that bugs me about GT5p AI is the way the cars dont really "race" eachother, they just kinda follow each other and make the odd little overtake on the straights :grumpy:, and a wish they'd enter corners quicker and put the throttle on more as they start to leave the corner. Also, I dont like them making the same mistakes, if they come off the track on a corner thwey should take it slower next time ;), I hope the AI is just temp for GT5p until GT5 comes out, I could live with it if it wasnt tho.

Agree with that, never seems like the rest of the field is driving to win, just seems like a train and its your job to overtake them, every race is just one of those driving overtaking missions.

From that video still doesnt seem like the AI is improved from the maligned AI in GT5P to be honest

Uhm, you do realise that the HKS overtakes the Blitz for second place in that video, which means it makes up about 1 second in one lap and overtakes it at the end of the lap? Doesn't look like a train to me.

I think the reason it may seem that way, is that the starting order (which is fixed in this demo) is almost the same as the order of the cars' possibilities. So they actually pull away from each other, because the Amuse GT1 is already up front. Switch the whole field around and all hell breaks loose in that race. Now, THAT would be a test, if the AI has changed.

Hmm, but to be fair the AI always has overtaken on straights usually if the cars faster like the HKS, it doesnt do it in any of the corners, i suppose it's pretty silly of me to try and evaluate the AI from a 2minute video so i'll hold fire untill the full release :)

I believe the CT230R went back to its racing line at the end of the video and did not even know that there's a car infront. :grumpy:

love the song! I wish I could find the dude who recorded me playing gt5 at gamescom, I'm sure i was filmed at some point but I need to find out where it is ^__^

I only saw the video of driving around Tokyo, think it was PSP, but the AI did seem markedly improved there, however, I will say the AI usually gets worse with every lap, seeming to "warm up" into bad driving habits, like the Lotus Elise always spinning out at Daytona Road in GT5P, after the first lap.

Those pre-scripted exceptions from railway drive are poor. Every AI driver should have his own mind, should be able to decide what to do in situations (avoid contact as possible), should learn from players behaviour to find the right time and position to overtake and should have basic emotions under presure as well. Cell processor in PS3 can do it for us, but I'm not that sure that PD can program it, because this is company where 95% of people are working on graphics, but AI and sound are done by gatekeeper in his free time. :sly:

Along the same principle:

Damage on trees and slippery tree leaves on the track!!!

Ooh yeah!!!

How could the community have forgotten that?

What's wrong with PD for forgetting that!!!

;) :dunce:

As for the topic at hand, increasing the AI speed and skill level (Prologue is pretty good already, in my opinion) gets cheers from me :)

 whats wrong with gt5p's draw distance?

If you can call that draw distance.

And back on toppic.

if it is true that the AI will Spin you out if necessary to stay on there line, I predict alot of complaining coming about Players being spun out by the AI.

I cant see any improvement in draw distance, because its nothing to improve. Yes back on topic, after i have watched many gt5 demo clips i cant see a HIGHLY improved AI, i see minor improvement like tire lock up in braking, but important things like AI actually react to what happen on track, like when that evo drove straight into subaru in high speed without trying to get out of the way. I understand that what we have seen is a demo and i think that PD will improve AI in final product but i cant see any evidence of a HIGHLY upgraded AI yet.

its looks uppgradet to a more agressive style and i dont think that is a god thing ...
they ramed you hard before and it looks like it does it even harder now
