The AI thread

Once GT5 is released, we could use videos like these to make comparisons to see which AI is better in what situations. đź’ˇ

Not only AI! Physics, graphics, B-Spec A-Spec, WRC, Nascar, Course Maker etc etc. :D

I think that we need AI which defends its position. I think that AI is good enough, only one thing we need is move to defend it's position by moving to the inside of the track to block from passing. If PD implements this to the game I'll be "heaven taken". :D

But the AI in GTR Evolution, same as GTR2 is slow as hell through chicanes, and they do that funky stutter throttle/brake thing through turns. They just follow the way points around the turn. If you stop in the middle of the track they will slow to crawl to get around you, instead of driving around at a reasonable speed.

I never get the impression that they are human like, but I do like how they will flash their lights at you if you piss them off :)
GT5 should have this, with the new high beams, and maybe even honk the horns :D

No, the AI in GTR2 is only slow at some corners on some tracks. It is still way better than the AI in GT5P which is what we need to focus on here. The AI in GT5P was simply atrocious. We cannot expect a perfect AI but I hope KY/PD moves forward in AI design!

KY/PD should hire some of the SimBin guys to code the AI for GT5!
:)

Yes, the AI typically only races for the position ahead, but never seems to defend it position. As with a human driver, I would like to see the AI tighten up it's racing line to defend it position, but not block aggressively moving back & forth like Ferrari Challenge did.

One thing that I don't know from what I seen in videos so far is the AI still taking predictable lines, another words restart the race will the AI follow the same position race after race, thus becoming moving cones, or will they take random lines. In Prologue, the S-6 race involving the Ferrari F40 the AI took a predictable line, which the gamer could memorize much like a maze in Pac Man.

It's not that bad - a vid made of a typical race I do offline, arcade mode, pro physics, S2 tyres. GT5 is a leap above this already thanks to emotional factors and the new B-Spec. Prologue AI is more like a track day type AI.
The ISI engine that SimBin uses is pretty basic, waypoints and text file of parameters for each AI that determine how fast they are and how often they make mistakes. There is nothing adaptive in it, basic bots. You can gain up to 10 places with GTR's AI off the start into the first corner, so I never bother qualifying!

When you stop movie on 1:52, in the background you can see a go kart track? Strange I didn't notice that ever before... Maybe PD was planning to add Karts before Prologue release.

Sorry a bit out of thread.

F40 in background was moving very strange. It looked like threatening other driver to let him pass, or leave some place to drive.

Fuji in real life has a Kart track on it.

I think the F40 was weaving to break the draft. I've seen other AI cars do that in Prologue, in front of me :)

No the kart track is there because it's there IRL.
Kart's were originally planned for GT6, then after an accidental confirmation pushed forward to GT5.

Again, you are getting off track (haha no pun intended!). I use GTR2 as an example of a better AI than the poor AI in GT5P. If this does not suite please insert a sim of your choices.

The point being for the focus of this thread and posts is the AI in GT. If GT5P is used straight into GT5 then the offline portion of the game will be pathetic. I only hope that PD/KY can improve the AI for racing in GT5
:)

It's already improved.

Equal cars, equal tyres, Pro mode, pro physics.
Once you add tyre temp and wear, and damage, nobody will be able to drive like a qualifying lap every lap, then the AI will kick your ass
Nice battle with the AI - Fiats on Monza - AI looks great!
AI passing on both sides at 2:06 is impressive
If you watch the rear view mirror , you can see them move around quite a lot, and exchange places. The aggressive red AI car that started in first, ended up in 6th

Cool! I really hope so because I am emotionally investing too much into this game!! haha

We will see the real proof once the released GT5 is put through the paces!
:)

Cheers!

This is a comment from Rated-M# who played the kiosk demo. IT sounds promising.

"The AI drive a lot smarter, sometimes I felt they even hit me back after I hit them. They try to avoid collisions better than in Prologue. They themselves make contact with other cars and the wall sometimes."

Indeed, a very good battle until Mark's late braking into the last corner sending him into the gravel was blamed on the AI cars...

very cool! one of the most frustrating aspects of GT5P is the AI would constantly hit me from behind as if I was non-existent. (I have only played GT5P and I do not know if the other GT games had a similar pilot AI)

they did... ;)

That only happens in the Mission style races in events, I never get it in Arcade mode races in Prologue. Usually by a Lotus, since they have better braking abilities than the other cars so they go deep into corners.
If you brake early in high speed corners they will hit you, High Speed Ring I notice it most :)

I know as a human, my car will do the same, you can't always react in time.

One thing that need to be fixed is the AI speed in corners. Its just to slow, I would love to have a great battle with a gt5 AI that uses the same car as me. Never happen in gt5p or any other racing game I have tried. Its not that I am super fast, the AI just need realistic speeds in corners. Its not that fun to overtake when you feel that the AI isnt even trying to go fast...

Is that good enough for you?
Having to brake way late to stay in first place lap after lap, and drive consistently to win.
If you make one mistake your in last place, as it should be in real life
Once you factor in tyre wear/temps and damage, then the driving dynamics change a bit. Late braking might not go well with more laps.

Think its something wrong with the computer I use, cant see the picture/video you posted. I just think it ruin the experience when I crash the Ai in the back because they brake in corners they should not brake. They dont need to be Senna fast, but if it look like they are trying that would be nice :)

BTW in GT you can always buy a new turbo or whatever if you think its to hard ;)

It's not a pic, it's a YT vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvoCGY2fjv4

Update your Flash, or reboot your browser

The vid was set in all Fiats, Pro physics and Pro level AI. It should be hard in this setting, hard enough for the guys who place in the top 250 in the Time Trial in each country to enjoy :)
Even though the average GT5 player might be 1-10 seconds off the pace :p

an enduro where the way you drive effects the tyres and not just the distance you have driven... HEAVEN :dopey:

short-shifting to save fuel...? :dopey:

The only reason I race online is because its more entertaining to race against stupid humans than intelligent AI :p

I lol'd

It's much more interesting to race against skilled humans than the upper end of difficult AI. Obviously you could make AI drive perfect but I'm talking that humans are always going to be better than AI because you need to be able to win the game so AI is designed with the intention of a human winning.

If they did make a choice between AI and graphics then I am happy with their choice as long after you have cleared GT life mode you will be racing online.

Bots to fill in online races with sliding difficulty would be nice. It would be even nicer if the toughest AI is lets say a "gold Licence quality" driver or better.

I want a game where at times I can't win unless I really methodically learn to improve in all areas.

The things that were written in this topic are true, buttt... I think that the AI wasn't upgraded that much... As we can see in many videos, the AI is still ignoring your presence in the track... They run like there nobody in front of them, they do not try to ward off from you, and it dissapointed me a lot!
Mabey you should avoid them lol. I'd preffer a more agressive AI over a more defensive one but I haven't seen as much of either as I would like. Still, I feel Prologue has much better AI than GT4 and assume that GT5 will be even better.
