The AI thread

I didn't get hit by the AI once when I played the demo for 20-30 mins, and I was driving conservatively like one would in real life with new tracks and cars. They all went around me to pass. Now if you drive like an ass hat, that might be a different thing altogether...

In the demo you start in the middle, but it's just an arcade mode demo thing

But these are all old demo builds. So many things have changed since then. Even the Toscana track has taken on a new appearance.
I tell you, PD doesn't like to show off all the goodies in these demos...

Gonna be crazy, I found the AI already tough at some circuits on GT4 but it seems like the AI is gonna be harder on GT5 (which is good).

I'm having doubts on that being an AI driver but IF it is that was ok but I fear the day of corner cutting CPU drivers.

I was driving mini when this happen. Camera from inside the car. This happen to me first time.

Then I am surprised and I am actually awaiting the day AI cuts corners, hopefully not in GT thou

OK, so if GT now has good AI, and Google has been having its street view cars drive themselves, how long will it be until someone puts some GT AI into a Google autocar? Will we be allowed to race them?

(More seriously, I'm really hoping the AI is greatly improved over GT4. I guess it would have to be since there will now be damage).

I hope I can actually mash the AI up, where would then fun be in having a wrecking session if the game just slide across the floor. I hoping for massive flips and damage when I plow into the AI.

.

Imagine a track editor for the gran turismo, which is based on google map. This track creator creates a track depending on the selected route on google map. That would be awesome!

Still it does'nt seem that chalenging either... I just hope that car is tuned to a way higher spec than the other ones...

A few good examples of improved AI from the above video:

At 1:31: Just a slight move from the Ford Focus (AI car) to divert scraping against the Z4

At 2:37: Yield and maneuver from the Ford Focus

A few seconds later and finally around 5:10 (a couple of moves from the Focus).

Even the slight scrape at 1:14, you still see the AI car made a slight adjustment to the left. Note how there's not spark in this slight scraping between the two cars. If I remember correctly in most of the GT5 demo post this year's E3, you''d see sparks flying from even the slightest scrapes between cars.

A good post! This looks very promising as the AI has always been the GT series' downfall IMHO. This though shows a marked improvement!

It is an improvement, but still not challenging enough. Is way too easy to outpace the AI cars, let's hope I'm talking ahead of time.

These guys are racing at a very low level in the game. Wait till they get into the higher classes

Improved AI is a very welcome and long overdue.👍

It's not challenging because one car is much faster than the others. That's not GT's fault.

According to play3man, a GTP member who knows the guy who's posting these videos, he was told that the difficulty is set on Easy.

Below is the chat between play3man and 5825 (the guy with the copy of GT5) when asked about the setting(s):

So.

58: Yes beginner. Difficulty is set on Easy.

That also means all aids on - active steering, skid help, ASM, traction control and ABS, on Standard physics, plus weaker AI. No wonder he's blowing away the AI :)
And also why the car appears to be stable and more understeery

From what little I have saw so far the AI looks dramatically better than what was in GT4. In GT4 the cars the AI drives the line at all costs banging, bumping, pushing driving down the lap time of both the AI and the car which has the spot on the line already. From what I have saw of GT5 the AI will run a different line if you have the racing line along side. Also looks like the AI is much more inclined to go off the line in order to pass in many locations where before it pretty much only do so on long straights.

Even in GT5P the AI is much better than GT4. Having played GT4 recently I did not see the AI change it's driving line at any time during the 80 or so races that I ran. Instead when I went to the inside to pass the AI would just move over into me in it's attempt to drive the line at all costs.

In GT5P I had an AI driver drafting off me and going for a pass on my right. I moved over to block and he swerves hard to the left and comes up on the left side almost as though he was faking me out as one would expect out of a real driver.

In another case a Ford GT about 3 spots back made a power move through the chicanes on Suzuka over taking 3 cars behind me as well as me and the car in front but then he was going to fast to take the next corner and ditched it in the sand. You would never see this on GT4.

I feel that the GT Franchise had to make the AI easier because of the length of each race. Most casual players would only race 2 laps on a track. It's totally unrealistic, but people aren't exactly looking for realism in terms of race length in GT5. If GT franchise made each race take minimum 20 to 30 minutes and raise the AI level to professional racers, people would be bored by the 3rd lap because they are still stuck in the same position at the start of the race. That's why GT made it so that you can technically blast past most of the cars in less than 1 lap to get 3rd place, but you will have a tougher time getting past the 1st and 2nd car in the remaining time.

Do you guys think that the ai in the gt5demo is the final ai? If so then the ai wont be very fast. I tried gt demo on oslo game show and i was very suprised when i tried c4 on toscana with pro ai. I won my first race..ok i won only by 1 sec and it was only 3 laps, but i dont think it should be that easy. Not on pro anyway. Ai was very smooth and clean though :) Didnt try pro ai on a asphalt circuit so maybe they are faster there.

The difficulty is what you make it really, I'm not sure whether GTP/GT5 continued the trend of the A-spec points but if so it'll be a welcome return for me.

For me the best races in GT are always at the beginning where you race the lower powered cars, the margins can be incredibly tight and the race victories all that more sweeter.

AI cars cleanly getting around the slower Caterham Fireblade. Bodes well for B-Spec
They don't even follow the blue driving line :)

On easy off course..... sigh

AI looks fine - as long as you don't gimp them by using super grippy tyres and set a low level like some people do...
