Has anybody thus far come across an option to turn OFF that damn Pace Car in licence test laps (every fifth test in a licence)?

I've had FOUR tests where he's been so slow in some corners that I've been able to pass him - which of course fails you instantly.

Hayelp! Hayelp!

From what people have said here, I don't think there is such an option. In fact, I think there isn't one.

I wanted to scream when I found out about this in a thread on this forum. But it's not so bad - apparently there is no pace car in the S-license.

I kinda enjoy the pace car. The pace car's pace depends on your pace - though I think it reaches a top end pace (which is slightly under the gold time) and if you are faster than that pace you just gotta slow down. Nothing you can do about it other than learn self control... :) . It helps in those times stuck behind the slow AI on the tight circuits and not be able to pass. It happens alot in a few of the tighter street and rally circuits in GT4. In the rally ones you get a penalty if you even touch your front quarter panel on the other car. Even when the AI is driving like a drunk and swerving well off and onto the racing line and cutting in front of you when you have the line.

I don't think I've ever used the word pace so many times in one sentence.

You can't turn it off. It's part of the test.
The idea of the pace car is that you have to drive fast yet safe. (i.e. don't crash into the car and follow the normal pace car rule) It's kind of useless but it helps make getting gold harder.
I don't like it myself but it's not that big of a problem, at least they didn't make the pace car like in GT:Concept where you can bump it while turning to keep yourself from going off track.

^^^ spoony has got the idea.

Except for it being useless. It basically is there to TEACH people who haven't played before to get gold. To learn to utilize race lines, etc.

Think about it, not EVERYONE is good at GT games. It's a great idea, I think, and also makes it challenging to get the gold.

Here's a tip, try not to late brake all the time, the pace car isn't that hard to keep right behind and get gold...

I wish PD had implemented the horn - maybe on the otherwise useless "up" or "down" buttons (which they've now used for turning the ghost on and off).

*honk honk* Get out of my way, slow flashy blue light thingy! Seat Ibiza Cupra coming through!

On that El Capitan test I literally FLEW past him on the corner atop the hill. Numpty that he is.

That whole pace car thing is pointless since there are no safety car yellow flag condition in GT4 ...
I wonder if I can get the pace car in sim mode though :P

If the Pace car wasnt there the tests with one would just have a harder time to acheive. Say you can eaisly beat the pace car by 15seconds, without it the time for gold would probably be 16-17secs faster. Hope that makes sense. All im saying is with or without it the liecense test is gonna be a challenge.

For the most part I really don't think the pace cars are a problem. The pace car is slow on a total of 3 turns that I can think of, one on El Capitan, one on Suzuka, and one on one of the rally tracks. Other than that, it's just there in front of me with its funny flashing lights. I don't let it bother me.
The pace car has NOT prevented me from getting golds on the licenses, and other than those 3 times, hasn't even really slowed me down.

Yes, you can. It's pretty neat. I don't know whether its sirens flash or not during a race, so inquire elsewhere. ;)

A combination of what "Spoony" and "Tha_Con" basically summed up most of what I wanted to say. I haven't played anything even resembling GT4, so I cannot comment. It seems like you have to keep pace with the car, but don't touch it. That's what it sounds like to me, but I can't really say or suggest anything until I get my hands on GT4, be it Prologue or the retail version later on this year.

Then again, I probably wouldn't care too much about gold prizes because on record, I have NEVER cleared an entire License with gold ratings. So license tests for me have been like "just pass the damn thing and get to racing!"

Additionally, in the damn tests with pace car, you haven't ghost and you haven't parcial T's.

You don't know how the test go until the end :yuck:

Now that I think about it, maybe the pace car is there to show you the ideal linenad let you know about proper braking points. I don't think the pace car is actually going to keep up with your exact speeds (give or take a few MPH/KPH), but it will be just enough so that you can make your way across the track successfully. I don't think it sounds as annoying as shooting an innocent bystander WHO GETS IN YOUR [CENSORED] WAY in a shooting game.
