Apparently the rubberbanding is pretty bad in the races and takedown missions. The AI will stay ahead of you until the final moments and then let you win near the end. Just like GT6 then

I think what he meant is the arcade physics improve as this game is not a sim. When you level up your character, you are awarded with Perk points that you can spend on things like: Earn more a % XP points and Bucks, Better Braking, Better Handling, Discounts on parts, cars and more. You also level up your cars by installing newer, better parts, these can be purchased at Tuners, or won in Skills events across the map.

The upgrade system is really no different than any other RPG. In a game like Skyrim, not only do your upgrade your equipment, Sword, Armor etc but your also upgrade your character's attributes. In this game the car is your equipment and your Character becomes more skilled at using the equipment as it levels up.
Then I wouldn't call it "physics" improvements, it's like many other racing games like GT and Forza where you can improve the "performance" with upgrades. Better tires - better handling, better brakes - better stopping, etc., but the physics don't change, that would mean the tire model becomes more sophisticated or the suspension modeling changes.
Ok, nuff said, I understand.

Hey guys, so I've been lurking on this forum for a while under Project CARS as well as The Crew for a bit, and I just wanted to post this here. I'm part of another gaming forum that is having a competition to give away some free copies of The Crew! If you want to try it out, you're welcome to try this link (Link), or you can just go to TDU Drivetime forums. TDU Drivetime is a bit like GT Planet in that it's a bunch of car lovers and gamers, so if you're interested, we would love to have you join! Thanks for your attention! :D

TDU Drivetime is another good racing/driving game forum, I am a member there as well and I fully support this post.

I never thought I'd see YOU around here.

Hey, Tsuki! Yeah, I've only been in the Project CARS area for about a year and only commented there once or twice, but like I said, I'm a lurker here. TDU Drivetime is my home, but these places are great for finding other gaming information! And hi, Dastardly!

Earlier tonight, I saw a Twitch stream for the first time ever. It was one on "The Crew." Seeing this deal sort of made me think of this kind of like Test Drive Unlimited... only MUCH better and with kind of a gritty Need for Speed undertone. Oh, and with no Solar Crown or pathetic voice acting or a pathetic story. This is game I wouldn't mind picking up if I had a PlayStation 4. It's pretty solid unless someone convinces me otherwise.

That's helpful. So is it right to say that the realism of physics represented in the game doesn't actually improve by becoming more realistic, it just makes the game/cars easier?

I'm fine with that although would have loved to see The Crew with something approaching the driving physics of GT6.

How does it compare to driving in Need For Speed Most Wanted/Rivals, Burnout Paradise or Grand Theft Auto?

UPDATE: I got the clutch pedal working on the PC version. Here's the deal, I assume the game knows that my Thrustmaster TX only comes with a two pedal set from the factory so it automatically disabled the clutch pedal. I'm using a Fanatec CSR Elite 3 pedal set so I do have a clutch. Here's where I went wrong though, when I went into the control mapping and tried to map the clutch pedal, there are two columns for button mapping, the left side is for keyboard controls, the right side is for the wheel/pedal controls. When I went to the clutch mapping, I didn't move the cursor over to the right side where you set the wheel/pedal button mapping so the game was expecting me to press a keyboard command for the clutch and wasn't recognizing the clutch pedal. When I moved the cursor over to the right. it recognized the clutch pedal and all works fine. I hope this helps someone else that might have this issue. The clutch may even work fine for anyone with a wheel that comes with a 3 pedal set from the factory since its probably programmed in their database.

Glad you got it sorted.

Yea, its a little silly, most every other PC game automatically recognizes the clutch pedal command no matter where the cursor is on the screen. This game requires you to move the input to the device you want to map. Its a minor oversight on my part since I assumed the game was smart enough to recognize my input from the clutch regardless of where the cursor was on screen.

If you have ever played Codemasters Grid/Dirt games then The Crew is similar, except a lot more forgiving because it's arcade obviously. It uses a central axis model (imagine a vertical stick going thru the centre of the car, and the car rotates around it instead of the front wheels steering the car). People also say TDU2 and Watchdogs are similar to The Crew.

In my opinion, Burnout and Most Wanted are better. Most Wanted has a bit of input lag but the underlying physics is solid. I don't play Rivals or GTA so I don't know about those games.

I've noticed in a few races the AI is super slow going into the first corner, and you can easily get through, build up a bit of a lead, but then all of a sudden they charge back and catch up, makes no sense!

I'm really enjoying The Crew though. I'm a collectible and perfectionist type gamer when it comes to massive amounts of things to see, do, and pick up, so having this huge open world to travel in, and tons of things to find and do, it fits the bill for me. I haven't used fast travel once, and won't use it. I'd much rather make the journey somewhere myself, and discover things along the way, and rack up the miles! I haven't gone anywhere west of Pikes Peak yet, or further south than St. Louis, but I'm looking forward to these massive faction missions that take hours to do. My kinda thing!

The customization system is really cool. Working in the visual effects industry, I applaud them for modeling all the engines and drivetrain in the trailers and the demo mode in the garage. Really cool feature! That sort of modeling is a lot of work!

I bought the game and played about 5 hours now. After working on getting the wheel feeling decent (took a while) I think its a pretty decent arcade racer. For anyone not liking the FFB on the pc you should try setting the in game FFB to 100% and in your wheel profiler set it to 30% or whatever you prefer. I found that it helped a lot with the wheel being lite around center.
I have only done solo missions so far so cant really speak on the online part yet, but while driving from one mission to another Ive only had one person run me off the road. I was really surprised and pleased by that.

I've only run solo missions too, and might just wait til level 50 to get into the PvP and online part. I've only had one run in with someone on road as well.

I agree, fast travel in this kind of game is self defeating. But unfortunately not everyone has all day just to drive to a race  I'd like to see them implement something like NFS MW or TDU where you have to drive to an event or road once to "unlock" it for fast travel. That way you still get to see everything the game has to offer, but if you want to return to the same place it doesn't get too repetitive.

If you are not against last gen graphics, I'd suggest you take a look at FUEL. It's got an even bigger world than The Crew, with lots of collectibles and sights to see. Unfortunately because of its post-apocalyptic setting the world is pretty bare, but nature has its own charm as well IMO 👍

He clearly steered right and hit nitrous right before leaving the ramp. I don't see anything horribly wrong with the physics there.
Just what I was going to say.
I don't know if the video was serious or not; I just think it was hilarious. I don't think anything is wrong either.

I think I tried FUEL, and dropped it 5 minutes later because of it's horrible wheel compatibility. If a racing game doesn't work well with wheels, I'll drop it fast, like the last Most Wanted.

Having done all the previous betas and now actually owning the game, I only have one real negative thing to say:

The amount of cars to pick from is laughable. So few and the ones you can pick from are pretty underwhelming.
