When someone makes a thread, and they obviously didn't do some research on the subject beforehand, it is not your responsibility to go in and rip on them. There are a good number of you who see such a thread, go in, and start yelling "Mods, close this thread!", "Terminate this thread!", "Where are the mods?!?!?!?!?", "SEARCH first, n00b!", "You obviously didn't search you dummy!". No, no, no! Don't do that, because it upsets the new member, it's a waste of space, and it upsets me and other moderators.

If you see such a thread, you can go in, and politely explain, in detail, what they did wrong. Politely explain to them how to use and where to find the Search function; politely explain that the Read This threads have a good deal of information; politely explain that most everything has already been covered by another thread. It's not your job to be a jerk and spit on a new member who just happens to be excited at discovering a GT forum. It's not your job to tell the mods how to handle the situation – I get particularly annoyed when I receive a report along the lines of "Ban him, he's annoying me" or "Close this useless thread". We will decide how to handle the thread – whether it can be saved, if it needs to be closed, or if it needs to be round-filed. The last thing I need is for somebody to rudely tell me how to handle a thread that I haven't even seen yet. (I don't mind when people make suggestions as to where a thread should be moved.)

What is JavaScript?

  • JavaScript was designed to add interactivity to HTML pages
  • JavaScript is a scripting language (a scripting language is a lightweight programming language)
  • A JavaScript consists of lines of executable computer code
  • A JavaScript is usually embedded directly into HTML pages
  • JavaScript is an interpreted language (means that scripts execute without preliminary compilation)
  • Everyone can use JavaScript without purchasing a license
Are Java and JavaScript the Same?

NO!
Java and JavaScript are two completely different languages in both concept and design!
Java (developed by Sun Microsystems) is a powerful and much more complex programming language - in the same category as C and C++.
What can a JavaScript Do?

  • JavaScript gives HTML designers a programming tool - HTML authors are normally not programmers, but JavaScript is a scripting language with a very simple syntax! Almost anyone can put small "snippets" of code into their HTML pages
  • JavaScript can put dynamic text into an HTML page - A JavaScript statement like this: document.write("<h1>" + name + "</h1>") can write a variable text into an HTML page
  • JavaScript can react to events - A JavaScript can be set to execute when something happens, like when a page has finished loading or when a user clicks on an HTML element
  • JavaScript can read and write HTML elements - A JavaScript can read and change the content of an HTML element
  • JavaScript can be used to validate data - A JavaScript can be used to validate form data before it is submitted to a server, this will save the server from extra processing
  • JavaScript can be used to detect the visitor's browser - A JavaScript can be used to detect the visitor's browser, and - depending on the browser - load another page specifically designed for that browser
  • JavaScript can be used to create cookies - A JavaScript can be used to store and retrieve information on the visitor's computer
I'm learning some browser side-scripting you see..

[*QUOTE=El Jarretto;2412351]I'd like to see customizable sound tracks. I upload my Beastie Boys albums onto a USB stick and rock out while driving, sometimes I wonder if that'd make my lap times better.
I'd also like a car that sounds good, every car sounds like the same old blender, except the Mazda 787B. It screams like a banshee.[*/QUOTE]

When doing multiple quotes, I Ctrl+V one of them.

During the time of slavery in the U.S. south, certain African-Americans worked in the master's house. These jobs were usually much less arduous than those in the fields.

These house slaves, however, did not have an inherently adversarial relationship with the slaves working in the fields.

In contrast, certain slaves were made assistants to the white slave driver -- the "overseer" -- who supervised the field workers. Sometimes there was not even a white slave driver, and a slave would function as the overseer himself.

In order to prove their loyalty to the master, these African-American assistant or main overseers were often more cruel to the field hands than the white overseers.
