One more time, guys - If you like the damage that Forza offers, go play Forza. If you'd like to discuss the damage that GT5 has, please continue.

Quite possibly it will come in an update and that's what Yamauchi meant by "it will come later"..
Exactly what I thougt... IMHO in a couple of months will be released a patch addressing the damage problem (making it more present and visible) and maybe also reducing the jagged shadows problem....

Guy come on !

They already spent 60 millions USD making the game, you think they will work 10 M$ more for a free update ?

It is sad that this is still not cleared up. We are back to hoping and wishing for a patch to fix what was promised to be in the game from the start .

True, but let say they had probably to rush the game out with angry Sony reps banging on their door for years... so maybe it's almost finished but didn't make the cut... hope it won't be too long because full damage (MECHANICALY speaking) will really change all the gameplay experience... which is a bit unfair for the first buyer or the waiting to buy crowd... because I don't see the first ones starting all their career again and waiting buyers will risk to have a "bumper" ride to level up than first time buyer if there is mechanical damage,

Well it's not really neccesary for the 'career'. Casuals won't even notice that there is no mechanical damage, nor do they care.. the rest of us will apreciate it in Online races, as that's where it's mostly needed.

If the damage subsystem is present in the game, I think it can be tweaked and I hope PD to do so... Hey hope is the last to die! :D

Personally, i don't think they developed a mechanical damage engine, or it would have been seen on some of the pre-release video or demo.

Like i said before 4 years thinking and 1 year developing.

But i'm sure i'm wrong.

Damage, poor standard cars are really hurting this game............... No need for 1000 cars, 200 is more then enough. Quality > Quantity. Most people will settle on a few dozen cars and thats it. I think PD lost sight of a few things with gt5.

The typical Kaz' bluriness...

Hope that when Jordan could remove his "justin Bieber's adorator" mask with the GT Guru himself, he could ask him for a straight answer...

but remember the same bluriness for the standard cars... and it was proved to be right, they do not have cockpit... so I don't expect GT5 to have REAL damages included either. When Kaz gives blurry answer to straight questions, we can now TAKE FOR GRANTED that it's BAD news...

mastorofpuppetz i agree, there is no need for 20(exaggeration) versions of a 2002 honda civic. everybody will buy only the car that can be tuned to be the best out of them all. the rest will be ignored.

Guys get a grip why are you getting worked up over damage it's gran turismo play it for how it is look back to were it first started in the series and were it is now stop being so picky. :)

There will not be a patch to address damage, companies don't operate that way. This is the final product, I have a copy of GT5 sitting on my desk at work, 6 more hours and I'll be able play. I'm excited but I must admit, I'm fairly dissapointed from what I've heard. I'm pretty sick of game developers stabbing me in the back and that's exactly what's happening here. Open your eyes people, stop being apologists for the devs, this is release day and we STILL have no idea how the damage system works, it's total BS.

Agree.. i had really high expectations for this game from their promises. I wanted it to kinda replace LFS for me..

uhhm we actually HAVE seen some heavy visual damage.
What are ya talking about?

Visual damage IS NOT damage... maybe good for arcade racers but not for a true simulation! You have to get some consequences for your bad driving, bumping cars and taking corner at unbelievable speed to win a race is not what I consider a SIMULATOR...

I'm talking about 34 pages dedicated to figuring out how the damage system works, cryptic messages from the devs, half fulfilled promises and it's release day and we're stilll speculating if mechanical damage exists. I'm talking about a guy ramming his vitz intol a wall for 10 minutes with little effect, a dude smashing into a wall at 100mph and thinking it maybe pulling to the right, maybe not. That's what I'm talking about.

Ok

Let me ask you a question.

If a car begins to smoke because of unknown reason and is slowing down.

Is this actually mechanical damage?

If it's not coming from the tires then obviously yes, it is mechanically damaged.

Where have we seen evidence of this?

But I don't understand why it isn't mechanical damage when it comes from the tires.
I mean it influence your driving cause you can't drive that fast anymore.

That was tire smoke and we have no evidence showing that that video was from the final build.

Tire wear is nothing new, I used to play daytona on sega saturn and it had tire wear, the old GTs had tire wear. It probably technically is mechanical damage but it's being dishonest to say "look tire wear! Mechanical damage delivered as promised."

The best way to test damage would be this:

Select a SINGLE premium car, and have multiple people with different driver level crash test that same car. That could give us a more definitive, if not FINAL answer as to how the damage system works.
