Regarding mechanical damage, yesterday I had a big impact on SS7 in a premium Ford Focus. After that the car started to pull very slightly to the right. I had to constantly correct it at high speeds on those straights.

big impact = very slightly

Anyway thanks for the info :)

Sounds like there is some sort of a damage tolerance factor which is set pretty high in standard, and a bit lower in arcade mode then?

I don`t know. In in arcade mode I crashed the wall with 180 km/h and the front bumper got some visible damage, it was hanging down, the hood got some damage and alot of scratches at the side, which touched the wall.

Then my brother wanted to test out how the damage system works and rammed the right side of my car with about 100 km/h. His bumper got some deformations (was driving a standart car), but my car was... Uhm, hard to describe. You could "see" where he hit me because this part of the car got some deformations.

I'm level 10 currently, and just did a race in the Audi R8 - it got nicely deformed on the sides, back and front... didn't bother to see the replay though since i can't fastforward. but i did save it.

Who did those videos where he talks ? he had some tire-damage when driving a mercedes C63 AMG?
its a start.. :)

I would imagine we have to reach the top tier in a-spec for the most visible damage models and mechanical stuff.
But PD did say that the cars aren't gonna stop. No matter what you do, you can always finish the race... (Car manufacturer required it :<)

So has it been confirmed there is more extensive damage that you have to unlock?

As I said we dont know, no review mentioned that damage will be more advanced in higher levels...so apparently there is nothing to unlock, its just a limited damage system from start to finish...hopefully polyphony will change their min about that and release a patch allowing us to choose the amount of damage we want when we race...

Thanks for the answer, can you confirm the quality of the engine braking ?
Yes, seems to be quite realistic imho.

So I can just say from here that mechanical damage in GT5 sucks...

A lot of 10 or 20 years old car slowing down faster with engine braking than with actual brakes. I did the experience on a 1.9 TDI in real life...

In GT5 you can do it without damaging your engine, so if you want to be the fastest driver around, just maximum brake "ABS on" and shift to first on every corner...

And it's called a "simulator"...

Thats very bad news. I like how in other games if you miss a gear or downshift too far you will blow up your engine or damage the transmission. Another huge GT5 bummer. :guilty:

And what other games take the car's age into account and simulates how it should break accordingly?

People left and right are acting like some kind of real mechanical is confirmed, but there has been no proof.... I never thought visual damage was that important, but realistic mechanical damage is very important, preferably where you have to pay for the damages with money.

Can anyone confirm anything about this?

So?? nobody pass the Lv25 mark to demonstrate the theory that levelling unlock the "uber" damage? or are they lost in a vacuum of GT space and time where they never come back??? For me, if there is no mechanical damage, there is NO damage at all and GT5 in this case fails big time and is culprit of lies and deception. So, prove me wrong, Lv20-25+ guys! is there anybody in there? No? not even a loss of gears, a puncture, ... ?

Absolutely, I can't imagine the 24 hours of le mans without failure because of crash or mechanical problem

preferably where you have to pay for the damages with money.

And if it's proportional to the prize of the car :):):),
but i don't think so...

Actually you'll just be bouncing on the rev limiter and take a lot longer to slow down. This game is awesome who cares about damage. The point is to be the fastest around the lap not crash into cars and see if they will slow you down or not. Would you downshift from fourth to first in your own car to see if it will slow down fast enough? Obviously not so why would you try it in the game. People want to push the threshold of damage but won't even get to that point if they're seriously racing.

One thing I dont like so far is how easy it is to make money in this game. I just finished all gold on the first two licenses and sold the price cars and have about 80,000 credits

Hey guys... I was in the FR cup begginer with the M3 Crome line... (I know, I like easy win for begginer races LOL), and I hitted the wall sideways exiting a curve...
Livel 4...
The side got damaged and the lines in the bonnet were no more straight!

So, damage, is in, and I think for the moment it's well made. You know, I don't like to crash ;)

If anyone is interested. This standard car took one hit to the front-right bumper.

standarddamage2.jpg

Is that really a standard car????

If so I wont be so dissapointed of the look of standards!!!!

In GT5 yes,

In real life, prepare yourself for a big transmission, clutch and engine tears and wears...

Anyway, why calling it "the real driving simulation" when you see or have no impact on performance depending of the atmospheric pressure...

It's a marketing term don't read to much into it. BMW calls their cars the ultimate driving machine, my car is at the shop at least once a month, what's so ultimate about that? There are a lot more important features missing in the game. If you go on complaining about it you're never going to enjoy it mate. Be positive and you'll realize it is very fun indeed. I just played with all assists off including ABS, and I've never experienced realism like that in a console. This is PC sim territory.

This could resume GT5

Seriously the best fun i had, was playing GT series with friends, since the first one, it always has been "for me" what a racing game should be...

Right now with GT5, it's quite the opposite, they should copy other game.

if you mean "arcade" COSMETIC damage, yes there are in... but if you mean damage in the real sense of the word... no they are NOT in (until proven wrong)...

Quite possibly it will come in an update and that's what Yamauchi meant by "it will come later"..
