I think the best thing PD could do is give us that demo and leave us judge it properly. (I dont mind if the damage isnt super real or non existant though)

If rollovers are included in GT5, it would be nice to know how they worked in the race. What if I flip the car completely upside down? It has suffered minor body damage, but its not very realistic the game will flip you back and keep going... Unless an AI car is dumb enough to crash into you, flipping you back. Then you get damage...

F1CE had the best damage I have seen. If you hit the wall your car was finished. It didn't take much of a crash at all and then you were done. If games are going to do damage then they should do it right or not at all. The videos of GT5's damage so far have been very poor. Hopefully they have all been on arcade mode with some sort of limited damage turned on.

that videos a great find....

the way the tires fly at the start is so real, it makes u want to take cover lol, you really feel like your inside the cockpit. the shine and everything on the wheel barriers is epic.

there is slight signs of mechanical damage.... i think on the second clip on the long straight, the car keeps going to the right and the driver has to keep correcting it, also he cant seem to get further than 4th gear.

all good signs :)

i hope all cars have at least some form of mechanical damage.

Yeah, I have to speculate that this isn't the full damage. What this shows is bits falling off a car after the same old weird, deadened impacts that look just the same as they've always done.

Maybe this is all that GT5's damage engine can do, maybe it's not. We could be looking at a non-pro damage setting, as many have suggested. Either way, I have decided that I am okay with it. I was bitterly disappointed at first but we've got a lot to look forward to besides this.

Carmageddon 2: 1 2 Full deformation and detachment, ahead of its time! The 'tube

omfg, Carmageddon 2 was so good.

Collision physics look so much better! :D

Can you point out where you've noticed the improvements? I'm really interested in this, but so far they look quite familiar to me..

i dont know about you guys but the LOD is muuuch high. the road looks amazing they have def done some work.

I absolutely loved the barriers falling apart...

IF the damage is adjustable, imagine this.
Your driving in a Super GT car, the bright sun shines through your windshield, another car is spinning in front of you, you try to avoid a collision and BAM, the next things you see are dust and tyres flying through the air and you cant continure the race.

Would be epic with GT5s graphics.

EDIT: I also love the speedfeeling, which is usually not as good in off-screen footage as in the games itself.

They seem to me to be a lot less "bouncy".

This may not be the best explanation in the world but it is the impression I get.

Yeah, that RX-7 in one of the IGN clips spins out pretty hard after a crash and one red Evo also seems to react better after a slight bump from the player.

My only problem with the damage is that it appears everything is pre-scripted. Bumpers don't get dented or split, just unhinged, no matter what the speed of the impact is. Windshields and lights don't appear cracked or even shatter. The good news is that these issues aren't hard to fix, and they should be sorted out before release.

Great example. I don't see why it's such a big deal that people are showing disappointment. Yes, it's too early to say anything for certain and we don't know what the finished product will hold. But commenting and criticizing what can be seen is just fine. Kaz said if the implemented damage, it would be done correctly. Well, so far, it just looks silly. For me, as long as the physics provide a challenging and rewarding drive similar to Prologue, with 1,000 cars and 80 tracks, I will be very pleased, but that doesn't mean that the damage is acceptable in it's current form.

but that doesn't mean that the damage is acceptable in it's current form.

So if what we see today is what we get, then you wont but the game ?

Plan on crashing lots huh ? Hope i dont have you in my races.... first corner you are all going to just plow straight ahead into the barrier so you can see your scrapes and splinters....gimme a break... the visual side of damage has been the single most overated "want" on this forum. Your all demanding PD spend so much time and effort on something that you will see less than 1% of your game time.

If current online player form is anything to go by, your going to bin it on your frst lap and have a car that is no longer competetive so you will quit and find a new race.

There were cries it was needed to stop the punters.. so if it does stop the punters that means theres no crashes right ?? Wheres the fun in that.... you guys NEED the punters so you can experience the pretty damage and then whinge about someone else causing you to lose a race cause your car is all busted.

I can understand a desire for damage to be in the game, but to be the single most critical aspect of this release ?? Find a new game cause GT5 aint for you.

+1

If you want to wreck cars go play Burnout Paradise. If you want realistic DRIVING simulator, buy GT5.

Biggest selling point is that damage forces you to play the right way. No more reckless driving with no consequeces. That's why so many people have asked for damage.

Helps to build tension on the races and force people to drive fast but carefully.

I doubt it... private rooms with no damage will be one hundred times better for clean racing.

I care about having damage that has a realistic effect on the performance of the car, not on its appearance, so I agree completely with what fasj said. I would think that accurately modeling the bending and breaking of internal, invisible parts should be simpler than doing so with the bodywork, because humans have such a discerning eye for when something "looks wrong" or "looks right." Sure, seeing a car hit a barrier and have a dent that looks cartoony and simplified won't impress you on a Youtube video or a replay, but to have the car develop a vibration, veer to one side, or become unstable after such an impact would be amazing, and that's the sort of experience I want from GT5's damage. 👍
