I am extremely disappointed right now. For a couple of things. One being the damage. It's crap. Complete and utter ****. The hood stays intact with the car even though you're going up to speeds which in "real" life would eventually snap out. How the **** am I suppose to drive with that hood blocking my view on the road? I don't give a flying **** if it's a demo. That **** is unacceptable. Especially when it was out to the ****ing public.

For Christ, for FREAKING God's sake, Rockstar finished GTA IV a year before GT5 was out or even had a release date and the damage on the vehicles is WAY better than that garbage on GT5. Don't ask me why I mentioned IV, I know they're two different games, but we all know GTA IV has a lot of content (meaning it takes a while to finish the product) and it does include cars. I mean hell, I would understand if this was shown after a year of development but for the love of God, it's been 5 years.

Worst part, not all cars have damage. Why? Why the **** not? Is it because the dealers don't want their precious cars looking crushed? Oh well, they don't have to worry, it won't be possible in GT5, or at least the demo.

Listen guys, I'm going to buy the game. I'm as big of a Gran Turismo fan as the next guy. Or maybe even more. Hell, if you don't believe me look at my sig. I mean, besides the damage, the game looks great. The tracks look nice, the environment looks awesome. The Subaru's interior looks fantastic. I just wish the damage was given a little (a lot) more effort.

The only thing I'm telling myself is, well, I'm actually wishing, that the demo shown at GamesCom was an earlier version of GT5 which the damage wasn't fully complete. (Or should I say nearly)

Also, no Porsche? ...
Amen to that... 👍

If you take a stock car, and mod it in some way, it's no longer production. So, as every stock "non-race" car can be modded, there is no argument that manufacturers don't like to see their production cars damaged. If I put a sticker on the car, it's no longer production. If I change the air filter, it's no longer production. So, I hope they have a good excuse for limiting damage.

You sound like you're speaking as if to say you're paying millions of dollars in development... Like they OWE you a PERFECT game... If you don't like it from what you see, no one is forcing you to buy it.

I'm sick of all the bitching going on about how you are disapointed... You're only disapointed because you have ur expectation levitating about a billion feet high. If you think it's so easy to make and that PD are being lazy you go and try to make a better game, afterall you're only paying 60 dollars for this GAME. if you think 1000 cars 60+ tracks in the best racing game graphics with some of the best physics isn't worth you're little 60 dollars, then don't buy it. Simple as that.

Not to mention my Supra isn't in the game! WHAI SHOULD I BAI IT!!!11 :indiff:

 Some of you people, really... like this guy, and Cobra.

The problem with damage here is, PD made a very dumb decision trying to model every car in the ****ing world therefor it backfired on them, meaning things like damage lacking high quality. They could have had more time to spend creating damage models for all the vehicles.
No, you obviously don't get it.

Play FM2. Wreck cars. You'll notice that some cars take more damage than others. This is because the manufacturers won't let T10 damage their cars much at all. One of the worst offender in this regard is Ferrari. People are already complaining that the only car they know of that takes damage is the Subaru Rally car.

Wait, check that. People are complaining about all sorts of stuff. I should be used to this. After all, it's Gran Turismo, some people will complain about any and everything. ;)

And I understand that the most recent TOCA's and GRID's can total your car.

Which has what to do with the case at hand?

edit: I understand you were quoting duncan.hodge on behalf of the CVG article?

REALLY!!! OMG!! Thats pretty big news. Been playing grid for months and I never noticed. Thanks man I reallly owe you one!

I wasn't point out that the damage model was amazing or ground breaking just thought a bit more info might have been handy.

I was just going to be a spectator in this forum and just look at what other people are saying, but you have forced me to join this website and join the debate.

Your comment about the bonnet not coming off is the biggest load of **** I have read so far and really goes to show your complete lack of knowledge about engineering or motorsport. Please can you go onto youtube and have a look at the WRC, there have been countless times where a bonnet hook has snapped and the bonnet has been left flapping around the windscree. I cant remember the actual event, but a driver came second after his bonnet came loose and all he could see was about 6 feet infront of him, and he relied completly on his co-drivers pase notes. You can see a bit of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uacmcFOL_Rs
These hinges are designed to be strong and it the hood does come open stay on so that they dont fly off and hit someone else.

GTA:San Andreas was released november 2004, and IV was released April 2008, that's 4 years and a BIGGER THAN LIFE BIGGER THAN MOVIE BUDGET BUDGET! and WHO KNOWS how many people working for them.

Quick note to all you fairly new guys on the site:

If you are finding words in your posts replaced by asterisks (***) then not only did you attempt to do something in violation of the site rules, but it was bad enough that the owner (Jordan) put a filter in place to prevent you from being able to even get it out.

If you actually expect to hang around here at least until the game is out I suggest you be careful with your language.

Seriously, what are the chances of you owning all 1000 cars? Sure, we all love lots of cars, and it does reach out to everyone's taste for rides, but come on. There was a lot (see how easy that was?) of cars in GT4 that I didn't give a rat's ass about because for one, I had better faster cars, and two they were slow and completely useless to me. (Unless you're the kind of person who likes to go, "Hey I'm going to take my car that I own in real-life for a spin!" 500 should be max.
I know you have only been here about a month and you probably haven't looked around the GT4 area very deeply, but some people did get all the cars. Some people do see it as a Pokemon-like challenge. In fact, some people have gone as far as to take the 1800s cars around the Nurburgring, just to see how long it can take, and even made it into a competition.

And yes, some people enjoy taking the game's version of their real life car (because they actually like their car) and driving it on edge, in a way they would never do in real life, on tracks they may never have the opportunity to see. And some of us have found that a race between cars with less than 200hp can actually be more difficult and intense than any supercar race. You may find racing something like Jettas head to head boring, but even in real life people enjoy it.

I know there's a chance that you do not care what others want from the game, but there is the fact that the creator of the game, Kazunori Yamauchi, has been quoted, as far back as GT2, as saying that he wants Gran Turismo to be like an encyclopedia of cars. If that is not what you want in your racing game then perhaps you shouldn't buy it as your vision and his do not match. It likely means that you are not his target audience. And why even bother with 500 cars when you can get something like Supercar Challenge that just skips straight to the "better faster cars?"

I agree with you there. It is a challenge to get all the cars. I sadly never finished GT4 100% due to time restraints at that junction in my life. And I also agree that its sometimes more fun and challenging to race the weaker cars. My favorite races were the 200hp MR classes.

I never got 100% because I kept getting distracted by a car I would race against, and would then go buy it, tune it, and hot lap it for hours on end.

We need some information about the game options. I mean, even don't know if there will be several damage levels as Forza 3, for example. That would help on judging more faithfully what we see in that Subaru's videos. As the general impression I think we have in the forum is: "not bad, but could be way better".

Here the same. There are lots of racing and sim games with supercars, but very few or no-one with "sensible" cars. Everyone has his own reason for enjoying GT, mine is driving the cars I drive in real life and see in my town: Citröen C3, Ford Focus, Opels, Renaults, BMWs... :)

if we cant pick on a game like gt ,if it is so perfect should polypony stop after gt5 and start making other games..
no game is perfect . thats why we complaine. and hope they get it right the next time they start to make a game..

sorry my english is alitle bad

I dont want to save my credits to buy a race car that costs 4.5 million (eg. GT one , R89 ,787b). then to get it totaled by a moron driving an (indistructable) Daihatsu Midget in an head on crash . Thats why all cars should have damage or none at all , simple as that . Although I love what I am seeing with the GT5 damage system so far .

I'm sure those who are worried about paying out the wazoo for damages on 4.5 million credit vehicles can earn much more credits from races and championships in GT5 than in past iterations.

While visible damage is pretty much confirmed to not be available on all cars there is no reason to assume that there isnt mechanical or a performance hit on all the other cars. Probably just be a more advanced system then what was originally in GT2.

A few more weeks and then we should have everything cleared up.

What makes you say that? I mean, I hope that is not the case. I actually like struggling to buy upgrades, as it lets you get more "connected" with you cars.

I bet a a lot of the people will feel annoyed when they constantly have to struggle to pay damage bills early in GT mode.

not sure if this has been posted - anyone else noticed how the bumpers always stay attached at the same side? no matter where the impact was.
