If you want to be pedantic about it, then "promised" was a poor choice of word on my part. So let's just scrap it and start over.

PD affirmed that if they were going to implement damage, they would do it right. They would go further than any other game ever did. They even showed us:

PD said they would do it, right? They showed what they would do, did they not? If they don't do it in the end, then they lied, did they not? Then I have a legitimate reason to bash their lying asses, don't I?

Ironically, that footage was the first piece of definate proof that they were doing damage, which was months after they only hinted at doing it to the fullest if they were gonna do it(which even then could have been a simple "yes" or "no".). I don't recall saying you didn't have a legitamate reason to do anything and infact was responding to one user before you decided to respond to me.

Well, it sounded like you were trying to argue I had unreasonable expectations since PD never technically promised anything. So I pointed out my expectations are valid even without the technical promise since they affirmed.

But if you never argued such a thing, then I apologize.

Yes, just like APPLE affirms all their products are revolutionary.

I don't have, never did and never will own an Apple product.

Don't think I'm giving PD any special treatment. I also make fun of Apple whenever the opportunity arises. Or Intel and their "revolutionary", "all-new" turbo boost feature. Or Turn 10 and their "definitive" Forza 3. I could go on and on.

Yes, that it's usually just hype and stretching the truth, or complete and utter BS, which is what my post implied.

Man those rollovers are getting me excited!

Who's up for demolition derby?

"It was scary, all 16 spectators were astonished as cars flipped, collided, and flew into the air. Interestingly, certain cars only exhibited scratches while a "premium" Subaru Impreza lost numerous body panels. Arresting drivers is a difficulty as about 80% of the cars had heavily tinted windows."

This has my vote for best post of 2010 👍

Apologies if already discussed or i completely missed it originally, but with this statement always on the us GT5 site?

Not only do the looks of the car change when damaged, an advanced physics simulation helps faithfully recreate how damage is taken and its resulting effect. By doing so, Gran Turismo 5 successfully recreates real-life added tension and challenge that comes from driving on the edge. (*).

* Damage is not necessarily applied to all races in the game.

What situations would there be to prescriptively turn off damage above the user's level of control. Any ideas? Maybe the go karting is free from damage! (yes, i really really hope go karting is true) :)

I wonder what happened to all the damage haters...

BTW it's funny... if you look back in this thread it almost mirrors the current cockpit view debates...

The one thing that is bugging me about the damage that I've seen (which I've seen everything that most everyone else has) is that the damage seems kind of unrealistic visually.

In any wreck, how often do you see a car get smashed in the side, yet the door can flap around. When a door is closed, it's basically locked in. It's kind of the same thing with the bumpers.

It just doesn't look right.

I haven't had many gripes about anything GT5 related, in fact, this might be my first...so I'm not a hater, nor am I expecting perfection. It's just something I noticed that rubs me the wrong way.

The best part is; all cars can roll over!

Sorry, my understanding was that some cars were unable to roll.
Can't remember where I heard that but if what you say is correct, that's good news.

You need to watch more racing...

...the difference is that in some (but certainly not all series) doors are welded shut (or fake as in NASCAR), but that certainly does not apply to all race series.

What differs in the real world is that should a door be flapping open and closed, with the exception of a rally event you would be black flagged for driving the car in a dangerous condition (so most drivers would retire).

I can't find a picture of it, but Marco Martin once finished a WRC stage (at Acropolis if I remember) with his hood covering his windscreen after it popped open. He drove for 20kms like that and won the event.

I was under the impression that only Premium model cars would be able to roll over as they were the only ones with under-body modeling.

i don't know i personally think premium cars will have "everything" modelled, under the car included..

i think standard will have a black base for the bottom of the cars.. sort of looking like scalextric at the bottom...

i think people think that premium and standard physics will be different.. i don't...

i think the physics will be there for "all" cars.. just some cars will be "detailed more" than others for example.. on a premium car, because everything is modelled you will see exhausts etc under the car, on a "standard car" you will only see a black flat base... i could be wrong but in some of the vids i have watched, especially the one where some cars flip I have noticed one of the cars had a flat black base..

its especially evident "the black plain base" in joystiqs top vid on the page just above my post "top video"

I don't think anyone thinks there will be different physics for standard cars as they are just assets fed to the game engines.

I never thought about roll over particularly as it always seemed to me everything should roll... You just see ugly flat bottoms on standards.

I'm serious, who's up for Demolition Derby on the Top Gear Test Track? It's perfect because it has an intersection AND a drag strip perfect for staging 250 mph crashes.

Come On November 2nd!!:dopey:

I don't necessarily agree with the arguments behind this post, but...

I hope it won't have cars flying 2000000 feet after an accident like LFS and such.

All I want is that if you make a big driving error you have some impact. With no damage you tend to relax just a bit because you know even if you miss the braking point the car will rebound from the barriers or something :p

I hope it is good enough and careless mistake is dealt with. As long as it does that it will be fine for me.

It doesn't take much force to really crumple a bonnet - watch the end - ouch!
Probably no more than 10kph at point of impact. People rear end each other in online races a lot faster than that!

I don't think we will be getting damage like that from GT5, judging from videos and screenshots.

Having said that, I've had my own car smacked on the rear 3/4 when I was turning right to left at busy shopping area intersection, the other car going over 40kph, and my car spun around 3-4 full revolutions going backwards before wrapping itself around a traffic light pole, and I was fine. Obviously, the car was not all smashed up as you'd think, otherwise I would be seriously injured!

PS - PD should sample that for the collision sound effect, it sounds pretty realistic, instead of that "War Drum" sound they have now :p

serves the guy right for driving like an idiot

Damn right! I love seing people like that crash, lets hope he learned from the experience ;)
There are too many people on the road who thinks they are good drivers

From what we have seen so far of GT5 damage I am not very impressed, wall grinding is still possible and big crashes cause little or none performance damage. But IMO it cant be the final damge version.. And Kaz said its not possible to total your car so you cant finnish...but apperantly thats beacause of the car manufactors :(

So I'm guessing you are under the impression thats what we'll get in the final release instead of it being a place holder?

Its defiantly not the final version. If Kaz had the full damage on nobody would finish a race. I think its not on full damage so the people can have fun while they are demoing the game.
