Another thought, did anyone at Gamescom try and drive the wrong way down the start finish straight to see if they could get a big head on collision? haven't seen any videos if they did.

.

yes, and nothing exciting happens

Its been confirmed that this is not the final damage build so we can all sleep at night :)

What makes you think you will be able to switch off damage?
As far as I know, there hasn't been a racing game produced in the last several years that featured damage that wasn't variable, to off. Kazunori wants GT5 to be as accessible as any other racer, so there are assists, variable physics and Arcade Mode so anyone can toot around and enjoy the game. Damage you can set to off is almost a given.

true, maybe the only games with no possibilty to turn damage off are GTA series... but you know, they're not racing games

p.s I just read the last 10 pages of this thread but I cannot find any update about vehicles with/without damage... I just read on the main page of gtplanet that not all the cars will have it... is it true that only the 170 "premium" cars will have visual and physic damage and rest not even the visual?

The damage question is baffling because we don't get clear answers from anyone. Kazunori makes it sound like only the "premium" cars - probably race cars - will have damage, period, but then remarks by people at SONY suggest you can mechanically mess up any car. We might have to wait for TGS to clear this up, and who knows, this might be a ploy to keep us discussing GT5 and not other racing games for the weeks before launch. That would be SO evil!

Two observations:

Alba has noted that the other, AI driven WRC car in the demo at GC is non-damageable. ie. it's not because the other cars are road cars that they can't be damaged. It's just that, in the demo, the player's car is the only one to show damage.

Also, a Sony man said that you can write off your car and be unable to continue. Assuming he knows what he's talking about, the GC demo doesn't have full damage, because Alba's head-on collisions on the main straight resulted in the same stuck-in-4th damage we've seen elsewhere.

the AI to me looks completely rubbish.

I agree to an extent. It's not COMPLETELY rubbish but it's got a few obviously huge holes in it and until I see otherwise I will be worried that the AI hasn't improved much from GT4...

On principle I can't believe they didn't make ANY AI improvements, but they certainly didn't address the biggest and most glaring issues...

Farout, you sound like a politician running a campaign, quit your whinning and go get something better to do, same goes for all the others, dont like what you have from GT5?, good go play NFS shift Forza or GRID, who really cares about you and your opinions? me ? no ? any other smart person? certainly not. Wait a second, ive found the perfect site for the complainers, forums.forzamotorsport.net/, go there and praise the 'advanced' damage simulation that would completely kill you car hitting a barrier at 60mph.
All I can say is that im more then happy now about what we have in GT5, who cares about damage if you have 1000 cars to test, and everything else GT4 offered us + more.

Why are fanboys so delicate? Can't handle that someone else has a different opinion and that maybe there is a blemish on your idol?

Who cares what he thinks? Well why should anyone care about what anyone thinks? If that's the logic then there is no point for a forum at all. Or did I miss where this was the "Only smiley, kiss a**, blow smoke" forum?

And the hate for Forza doens't strengthen your position. Regardless of how good or bad Forza is, GT should be looked at standing on it's own. Or is it ok to simply be better than Forza regardless the flaws?

Why is it nearly always "new members" who are the ones moaning and complaining?

It's probably a case of which stands out more rather than actual numbers kind of like how it seems almost all the cars on google maps are red or white when we know that's not true.

My question would be, why can't people accept problems rather than deny them? I mean as long as devs can count on fanboys to buy regardless of problems, they have much less reason to fix those problems.

How can you spot obvious holes in several 2-minute races on a build of which is probably 4 weeks old, if not moreso?

Because some people are just, experienced at watching videos and pointing out everything that's wrong !( sarcasm )

LOL I agree. Theyre judging things from a few videos before they play the game themselves. But what do you expect from a lot of people on here?

This was the first time PD showed damage on any of their games, not counting mileage and tire ware. This is obviously a first build - and I don’t think we can honestly expect a perfect damage engine on this generation consoles - but PD just wanted to give us a taste of what’s to come and quiet a lot of fans. I’m sure we’ll see more realistic damage settings in the full game and even that will keep updating and perfecting. We have to keep in mind that this was a demo destined to be played by casual gamers; with hardcore damage not many would get past the first corner!

Firstly, thanks Devedander, it's nice to see there are some decent and honest people on this forum.:)

Now..., to my post which incurred the wrath of a fanboy. Everything I said was true, based on the information we've seen and been informed of by KY/PD. Not some speculation or daydreaming or personal opinion, which seems to be the trend with most fanboys here. Secondly I never even mentioned FM3, and already the fanboy sent me on my way there... Lastly, I've been a member since April 2009. So no, I'm not a new member. I just don't post that much. I'm not going to waste my time posting on idiotic 20 page threads like "Let's guess the release date of GT5!" or "Car Wishlist 7", etc. I got better things to do with my time.

The problem with fanboys is that they destroy the chance of rational discussion, if it threatens the shrine they've built for GT5. He even said that as long as he got an improvement on GT4 he'd be happy... GT4 was released 5 years ago but as long as it was a bit better he would be happy. Yes, he'd pretty much be happy with anything KY/PD throw his way. But not all people are as shallow and blind sided as that...

EDIT: Oh and steve30x, we're judging from various reports from people at the conference, many previews and interviews with KY/PD. And that's pretty much all we got at the moment. That's how the normal world works. People, well intelligent people anyway, look at the information presented so far, coupled with experience and form an opinion. Fanboys however, don't seem to work like that. I could hazard a guess on how fanboys think but since I'm not that way inclined, I won't bother.

Good show 👍

Im going to buy Forza 3. It will get me by until GT5.

Point taken Fyreandice.

I know GT isnt perfect but you dont see me crying because I dont have GT the way I want it like a spoilt child that always gets his own way. Why cant you guys take GT the way its given to you and be happy instead of moaning about every insignificant little thing you see in PD (And yes most of the complaints I see are Insignificant).

The only small complaint I would have is the AI. The Ai is too linear. Its like they have a set racing line for each car ad they wont budge from it. But I can get over the AI and take GT5 the way it will be given to me.

i hope that the Ai in gt5 has improved from gt5p..
because in gt5p the Ai just drives on the racing line regadless if you are there or not..
they dont react at your movment at all it seems..

That's just not true. I've gone through the esses at Suzuka with me on the racing line and the AI on the outside plenty of times without incident.

The problems I have with the AI are them ramming me from behind in braking zones

This is good news but what the hell, only the 'first' step? What have they been doing these past years? So I'm guessing for the next four months PD will be trying to improve the damage?

God I hope it turns out good.

Modeling 1,000 cars to PS3 quality while Turn 10 only managed 400

And who else knows what other extras they have in store come TGS. Too much speculation over a 2minute demo, PD was better off not even showing the game

Forza 2 release - April 20, 2007 - 350 cars

Forza 3 release - October 27, 2009 - 400 cars

Forza 3 release - October 27, 2009 - 400 cars

Ammount of cars isnt everything. Also GT is being programmed for 5 years and Forza 3 is being programmed for 2 years so its not fair to compare both in the ammount of cars they have. Also Forza 3 is being released on 23rd of october here in Ireland.

you must remember that forza 3 have modeled 400 cars with damage in litle over 2,5 years..

i think that is alitle more impressive than only racecars in 5 years..

The cars in GT5 are not in any way low poly like GT4 cars. They have re textured the cars and added other stuff (Brake disks and suspension visible) to the cars. They didnt just port over the cars:rolleyes:

Why is it not fair to compare the car count? Turn 10 already has a full Forza game released on the 360. And after two years of working on the sequel the car count only goes up by 50?

Turn 10 has had one more year to work with the 360 then PD has had to work with the PS3.

GT5 is coming out 3 years after PS3's launch, Forza 2 came out 1.5 years after the 360 launch, Forza 3 is coming out 4 years after the 360's launch, and by the looks of it GT5 has alot more content.

(Wont say wats on my mind) They have been modelling the cars for TWO years not FIVE like PD has.
