As much as your supposed to respect peoples opinions, thats just plain trolling on Kotaku, i think the damage looks great, i know that i will love this game and fully enjoy it even if there was no damage of any kind. I've always loved the GT series.

We can tell that the Gamestop demos are a few months old because of the sparks and absence of skidmarks.

It just accidentally has damage switched on.

Chill out guy, 10 days and we should see final damage.

People who want to smash their cars and drool by their destruction should look for another type of game. GT is about careful racing and those who play by that rule will most likely not see much damage and spend much time looking at it. I'm not saying it's not important but looking at what GT is about, visual damage is a secondary thing and also a completely new thing to the series. Give PD a break and admire the full package which seems to be levels above most other racing sims.

I don't think we will see the final damage build at TGS. We might see a better build than what's in the demo, but don't count on it.

the damage is more dynamic than forza. id say comparable to burnout at present. however they do look a bit distorted/ melted. but once this is ironed out itll look pretty nice, but even then if your only interested in driving cars into a brick wall at 200 mph then gt isnt the driving game for you.

if you look at the damage builds since it was first introduced its very progressive, dints -> scratches -> crumpling panels, rollover etc id expect the later to be pieces falling off and possibly smoke/fire.

what people fail to forget... PD arent dealing with 250 cars here...with damage. were talking 4 times that. with not predefined damage over all cars using the same damage texxtures, and model swap out...but dynamic damage.

As a 3d artist I can appreciate the time and effort PD has put into it.

Me too. I was only expecting GT5 to be GT4 in HD with online play and I would've been in GT heaven. All of these features are just icing on top of the icing on top of the icing on top of the icing on top of icing on the cake.

Only 10 days? Very optimistic. So you believe everything will be revealed at TGS?

I love the current damage. The only things that concern me a bit are the intact windshield and the head lights.

We will probably not see all content but the game in action should represent the final game. Sony would gain nothing by showing an unfinished product to the entire gaming world. This is their last chance to leave a great impression before the game is supposed to bring in money for their huge effort.

Unless they hold a GT5 only event somewhere, TGS marks the last time that they'll be able to show the game off in a big way. So while everything may not be revealed there should be a lot revealed there.

Actually, now that I look at it more; why does PD have seemingly half a dozen different demos all in various different levels of build, with certain features present in some and absent in others?

This damage looks less convincing than that first image we saw of the WRC Scooby. The 458's headlight floating up in the air above the body just looks... wrong. Plus the huge amount of clipping present in all the images. It'd look better with some scratch textures, which seem to be absent in this video (or at least reduced). The gnarled, toothy look (like this image) is probably what makes it look as bad as it does.

It's impossible to tell how old or new this build is, since the afore-mentioned issue of PD having seemingly endless permutations of the game for different showcasing opportunities. Hopefully this jaggedness (and the clipping) are minimized before release. I'm not expecting perfection from PD's first shot at damage, but there are times when it looks good, and times when it looks really bad, so far.

I like how the guy comments and complains about the difficulty and being too realistic in the 2nd GT-R video

It's always a funny argument when people say if you're a good driver you won't likely see damage. Whilst you might be a good driver, online someone could make an error and hit you. Are you really happy in something that's supposed to be a sim to not show damage or are you like most people, happy to finally see another level of realism added to the game?

Damage happens in real life to the very best of drivers, so by rights it should happen to you, too.

Well, Nielsen and SolidSnakex, you have a point. Probably GT5 will be shown on its entirety at TGS as it's the last big show before the release date. But there's an event after TGS in UK. I don't how big/relevant it is. Btw I don't even know the name of the show XD. I guess it's smaller than TGS.

Agreed. By these same peoples' reasoning, if I'm a good driver, I shouldn't ever need car insurance in the real world because, well, I'm a good driver, I'll never get into an accident.

Oh, I know, but it seems GT really does have far more permutations of their game than most other developers have. We've seen recent builds not incorporating things seen in months-older demos. Seems odd that we seemingly can't ever see them all working together!

Most other developers don't have 5 or 6 years worth of permutations of their games.

My point is that the quality of visual damage (which is nice already) is not that important in a game where people should aim to use good driving. And those who drive well shouldn't see much of the damage model anyway. It is a secondary thing for the driving simulator.

Something that the damage modeling might help is the reaction of the cars to collisions and get rid of the billiard ball collisions caused by completely rigid bodies.

Some of the damage make the cars look like they have had a stroke.
Others look ok.
Better than nothing IMHO.

How do you guys, gals think this demo is being brought to these stores? Download over the network, physically brought in by disk or a all new kiosk being brought in?
