No, it's because those are race cars and those are still somewhat allowed to be completely wrecked like in DiRT and GRiD. However, manufactures don't want their production cars shown with such serious damage because they believe it can have a negative impact and reception to the car and would decrease it's sales :rolleyes:

I just don't get why the car companies would allow visual and mechanical damage but not allow the cars to black out completely. I can't see the logic in that.

Me too. You can see completely destroyed Ferrari or Lambo on YT, but you can't do that in game...

There will be no DNFs in GT5. KY said that the car manufacturers vehemently insistent that no matter what the car could never come to a complete stop. Its the same in Forza. I believe only race cars are exempt from this.

So what you are saying is, standard cars will have very limited damage, premium road cars are prettier with cockpit view + more damage.Premium race cars, are the same except with even more damage.GPL had fire damaged real F1 cars, in 98 with 60's technology ( a FERRARI 312 F1 too of all makes ).But can't be included nowadays :indiff:.Not just in GT5 either, a number of racing/car sim games are the same :(.

P.s. don't give me line about hardware limits, because they wouldn't allow with a small amount of cars/tracks either.

The only thing I don't like about the current damage is that we don't see any frame damage or tires coming off when hitting a wall over 100 mph. The video showing the NISMO R35 Race Car at 246 hitting the wall there was no frame damage. I hope it's fixed before the release.
 
to go from no damage at all to 100% realistic is not at all in itself realistic. I think for gt5 at least this is the best we're going to see which in my book is pretty damn good.

True that, either that or xbox fanboys. I think the damage looks just fine, in fact i would of been happy if GT5 had no damage, it's not something that bothers me but i can see the appeal of it :)
 
The only thing that worries me is the Ferrari Headlight is unscathed and is sitting right below the windshield.

The damage is easily the most unrealistic feature in GT5 so far. It looks so horrible and it just looks like the bumpers are melting. Body panels don't melt or deform that bad when you hit a wall, the just break and fall off. Plus...were are the scratches? I saw a guy playing the demo today and i couldn't help but laugh.

But ferrari is recalling the italia because of fire hazards...so maybe the bumpers on the italia are actually melting?

They're also a well known troll site especially when it comes to Sony titles. It's no surprise that they'd attract trolls there.
 
I guess it's just me, but i was unimpressed with the advent and reveal of damage last year, and i remain massively unimpressed. It looks more unrealistic now than it ever has. Goes to show that no matter how many $$ and time that is thrown at it, you still cannot model it real to life...... Thats fact. It's a waste of time, resources and $$$. The whole point of damage to me is if you err in your judgement on track and make an error, resulting in a major impact, it should be game over in game, a DNF. As as for the apparent missing element of mechanical damage to accompany aesthetical damage....... please.

If the car manufacturers are not willing to give 100% devotion to a damage model in game, then get rid of it, it's defeating the purpose.

There were scratches in previous builds of the game

It just shows that the damage model we're seeing at the Best Buy demos isn't a completed model.

No, no, no and no

If you race for longer events like the 12H Sebring, 24H Spa damage is an integral part of racing. You have to make decisions, repair or not, that's also real racing. Damage in not equal to DNF in all types of racing.

In a good carsim damage is a real fear factor, you don't push as hard as you would without it. But damage will probably be optional to suit as many gamers as possible.
 
There aren't any skidmarks in the Best Buy demos either. Does that mean no skidmarks in the main game? Of course not. We already saw scratches and loose bumpers in previous demos. The whole point of that demo was to show off the deformation.

I remember it being a reason for the delay from 2009 to 2010.
PD shouldn't take crap from anybody and just focus on doing their thing.
They tried to listen to all the whining on internet, and it only ended up in endless "we want damage!" <=> "DO NOT WANT" cycle.
 
i feel slightly sorry for pd, as i stated earlier it's just a game plus the damage is clearly not the finished product as someone above stated.

I don't know if you should feel sorry for them. It seems like most people are happy with what they're seeing with damage. There's absolutely no type of damage that they could do that would make everyone happy and they know that.
