The Distracting Background Cars in Media Thread

SVX
After being surrounded around them all my life they're so distracting to me, anywhere. :P

I drive a 2.5 GT myself, so it's hard to not see them haha.

I found something good in That 70s Show.

A Nissan Fairlady Z? That's 70's alright, fits like a glove.

Also, looks like I'm about to perform ye ol'thread bump with this post, but never mind that. I don't always pay attention to background cars, but I've seen quite a few interesting ones myself. Here's a less obvious example, but it still counts as a distracting background car (for reasons that I'm about to explain):

Mercedes Saint Tail.jpg

A Mercedes E-Class shows up out of the blue during an on-foot chase scene in Kaitou Saint Tail (known in America as The Sweet Tales of Saint Tail). I say this counts as distracting because usually the cars in these scenes are Japanese ones, so it's not that distracting for me. But seeing a foreign car like a Mercedes appear, that can be distracting for sure. I do believe that I saw a BMW 5-Series in this show as well, but I can't quite pinpoint which episode featured that, not by memory that is.

E30 M3 :eek:

Not sure if the racing cars in Thunderbolt are the distracting vehicles, although the random assortment of cars is quite strange to say the very least. Super Taikyu cars, JTCC cars, the categories are incredibly random. For example, even a god-forsaken Opel Vectra appears in one of the many crashes in the movie:

But when it comes to really distracting, you can see a Ford Festiva and a rare Honda Motocompo (a small motorbike that could be had with the Honda Today), as well as Mitsubishi's HSR III concept;

In the meantime, if you read my previous post here, you may remember me speaking about the appearance of a BMW 5-Series in Saint Tail. I finally found the episode where this car appears, during episode 13 of the show.

And it's a 535i. How do I know this? Well, it seems that the show's producers really wanted to let people know the specific model of this BMW;

Japanese animators seems to love putting details on the vehicles that appear in their animations.

You can even clearly see the Alfa Romeo Logo on the movie ''On your mark''

That image is also proof that Japanese animators are in love with Alfa Romeo. Not counting the ones here, I remember at least three instances of Alfa Romeos in Japanese media; one in Sailor Moon, one in Kochikame (a 155 in episode 89 of the show, if my memory is not failling me) and one in Gunslinger Girl as well (although that show actually happened in Italy, but still). I personally believe that Alfa Romeo is one of the most used non-Japanese car brands in all of Japanese media.

The Japanese really like Alfa Romeos, don't they...

Well, there has to be a reason as to why the last Breras ever made were special editions exclusive to the Japanese Domestic Market, you know.

And I know I might be straying a bit off-topic (and I apologize in advance for that), but if you want the ultimate proof of that concept, look no further than this manga right here (something that I discovered recently thanks to another thread here in GTPlanet);

I am pretty sure that you can see what I mean here, yes?

I think i do....

You mean that the new Giulia will sell really well in Japan! :lol:

Hey, if Japan adores the old Alfas, why wouldn't they adore such an edgy sedan such as the Giulia. And with the name of that manga, the Quadrifoglio would obviously the version of choice for the JDM world... :sly:

FLCL has an Alfa 156 in it at one point.

More interesting is the Citroen GS Break outside Naota's house, however.

A Citroen GS? Now that's an interesting choice indeed, any pictures of that?

FLCL is full of interesting cars:

And on and on. I'm missing Ninamori's mom's Mercedes, Amarao's cracker box, the teacher's... Golf? I think it was a Golf, and of course, the Mazda 3-wheeler, of which I can't find any screencaps. I'm sure Roger can provide.

And some crazy car accidents too, apparently. :crazy: :lol:

But yes, it seems that FLCL's creators had quite the taste in cars, that's a nice variety of foreign models and they're well detailed as well. I can definitely dig a show which uses a GS in its pictures. 👍

Also, that last picture isn't showing properly on your post, but it shows up fine when I quote. You may want to fix that.

Does Detective Conan comes to mind? that anime/manga shows lots of real and detailed cars, there's episodes focused on the cars that appears and even the wiki have a own page showing all main vehicles in the anime/manga.

LOVE Detective Conan! Was hoping to post some of the cars, but I couldn't find a decent source for the photos. (For some reason didn't think about the wiki) I remember there being an episode about the mysterious FD RX-7 driver. :lol: Always enjoyed how specific the cars are.

Audi SA.png

I'm sure every car enthusiasts who watched this movie stared at the car,most surprising thing is this car is LHD, not RHD like many Car in Japan. (Every Audi Cars sold in Japan are RHD)
