Saying that a certain type of driving style or racing is ricer-only, is just stupid imo. Dont let people's attitudes change the way you think about a certain type of racing, especially drifting.

nah drifting is for people that cant go round corners properly or fast enough :p

What do you call Dirt Track racing? World Rally Champoinship? hell, there's a bit of drift in many low-downforce motorsports.

dude, have you actually TRIED it? Heck, it looks hard from AFAR!

Next time you post, give a reason for your argument.

its funny how many people take a joke seriously

Holdenhsvgtsr
well i see at least 2 people got the fact in joking

and track racing is better....
...better for you. Personal opinion. So why not say "I prefer" instead of the absolute "is better" ?

that's only your opinion. "I Prefer" states that clearer. for example...

"I Prefer Initial D over The Fast and the Furious"

or...

"Initial D is Better than The Fast and the Furious"

Which sounds like I'm making a claim without supporting it, and which sounds like i'm simlpy stating my opinion?

i didnt say i prefer so why say i did when i didnt

He said he would prefer if you didn't state opinions as facts. :D
but if you look at polls to do with what people think are the best and most popular forms of motorsport, track racing always comes out on top ;)

You convinced me. Track racing is better.

You gotta remember that track and drifting 2 totally different thing. Drifting is more of a show type and competition, using a point system where as track is all about quickest time, and so on. Comparing em both i gotta say is pretty dumb. Its just like choosing between apple and orange. In reguards to street racing, how do you think drift king came about, keiichi did those things, street racing, and just about every other D1 driver.....

You're partially correct -- Drifting doesn't even have to be a competition. I enjoy sliding cars around, but that doesn't mean I enjoy being graded on it.

Actually, track racing is more centered around points.

Quick times, wins, and what not all contribute to points. Drifting (or at least G4's Formula D) is based around judges.

Formula D is a disgrace to real drifting. Yes, its not always the fastest way around a corner, but racing drifts is what its all about. Why should you just slide, when you can slide AND go super fast?

The popularity of drifting is what made it into a show event. The places where drifting began, (touge) doesn't have much spectators anyways.

PB, Drifting is pretty much never the fastest way around a corner, unless you're on Ice or Dirt, and then it isn't really what you call Drifting.

I think Formula D is great for getting attention to the sport, but then, anything which helps get Americans to stop watching NASCAR is gold in my eyes.

That's the biggest strike against pure track racing, IMHO, NASCAR. Le Mans is the biggest thing for it, which balances it back to the "rocks ass" side.

Drifting done throughout the movie surely wasnt all that, maybe because it was done by formula D drivers, and not keiichi. Anyone know where that touge wanabe race was filmed, it look pretty faked, more like one of those hollywood gigs again. It was the last race.
Lastly, 'Whats drifiting?' lol!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, Loved that line

Drifting/drag racing/circuit racing all have their own pros and cons, but there's no way you can say one or the other is better than the other. It all comes down to personal preference.

Drag racing is all about reflexes and reliability. And take any decently powerful car (say as low as 200~hp), floor it, and tell me you can keep it in a straight line without any steering input. Doesn't happen. And you have to keep stuff like wheelspin under control all the time, while trying to keep the person next to you behind you. You can't "take him under braking" at the next corner.

And it takes stupid amounts of skill to be able to hold the drifts the way the professionals do, balancing the steering/throttle on a knife-edge turn after turn is NOT easy. You have to effectively do everything you do for track racing, except for the fact that you have no traction and your arse if half facing the opposite way to where you're trying to go.

Personally, I did trackdays. It's hella fun, and quite cheap, and it doesn't matter how good you are (or aren't). And it's not as competetive as drag/drifting, where you can either win, or lose. But you do get the satisfaction of knowing you as a driver are improving. For these reasons, and many more, it's not really surprising that track racing is more popular. Does that make it better? Not really.

Oh, and I have tried drag racing a few times. Awesome fun as well, but I couldn't justify thrashing a near-stock car as much as I was doing.

Ok the movie was launched yesterday here in Germany ( due to the FIFA Wolrdcup) and of course I watched it.

I really liked it. They reduced the CGI to a minimum, you could hear the sound of the engines, mufflers and tires, not just the music... The racing scenes were nice and there was a lot of action. Well the stories were ok, nothing special for sure, but could have been worse imo.

I prefer an enema over The Fast and the Furious.

Well,i didn't liked the movie! As you know about the ricey FnF series, this movie had smallest amount of rice.Drifting in the movie is so unreal and the movie don't show the real side of drifting at all!The good thing is the apperance of the drift king(dori kin) Keiichi Tsuchiya.Cool thing is,car crashes are real though, ladies are nice :D and there is pretty much good cars.Movie production is good, but movie as movie it's not very good!
