Well, have you been to Tokyo ? The subway system is amazingly crowded. But I think that the crowd in the trailer was on the streets, maybe both.
It's kind of a throwaway, seen-it-a-million-times shot; same with showing the herds of people in suits and ties walking back and forth to work in New York City for every movie made about the Big Apple.

The movie appears to be so full of clichés that it's an assault on even my most childish of thoughts. But I'm sure the driving stunts are quite good, if I hadn't seen 30 years of them so far, it would probably be worth watching.

I did too. Then again, we are watching the same game. I didn't know he was in the movie.....

Just saw it. Tickets were a gift from my girlfriend. He's in the movie for 30 seconds right at the end. In the nicest car in the movie.

Semi spoiler:

Oh, and DO NOT cheer when the Veil**** RX7 gets taken out. People just look at you like you're strange.

Well that is true of course. I also notice that the older you get the more you get bored by the average movie. It's hard/impossible to reinvent everything.
But imo that is more a story problem. I watch a movie and most of the time I have an idea how it will end after the first 20 minutes.

But when a movie takes place in Tokyo, why not showing how Tokyo is ? I've been to Tokyo several times and it is crowded as hell, almost everywhere at any time. It's no cliché. Also the racing/drifting scene is no cliché, they are there every night. The police is not as strict in Japan, you don't get locked up for racing, most of the time you are just advised to leave the place.
And what is the alternative? Do you want a movie taking place in Tokyo and not showing its sightseeing spots? So that everybody realizes that 90% of the movie was shot in the USA? No thanks ;)

Imo it really depends on your personal taste. I love Japan, Tokyo, japanese cars and drifting. So it's a great movie for me, even if the story is average and some rapper is talking BS every 5th scene....
If you prefer for example EU/US cars, are not that keen on drifting and if you woulnd't care if the movie takes place in HK,Malaysia or Brasil, then it's probably not worth watching for you....

Hey slidesquad#1. how was it ? You can't just say : I watched it and then dissapear, you cruel monster ;) Don't tell us the story though, just why you liked it/ disliked it. How are the drifts, how is the sound, a lot of CGI, is the story at least ok? etc etc

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/fast_and_the_furious_3_tokyo_drift/ doesn't look that bad imo. Most of the negative stuff is about things I already knew that it would be average, like story and acting...

Wasn't too bad, to be honest.
Story/plotline were average at best, very cliched. the drifting sequences I thought were pretty good. WAYYYY too much footage of the footwell, showing us their m@d tYT3 clutch slamming skills though. There's a lot of carnage, which is good. Music wasn't really my type, but seemed to work with the settings, which I expected, so I could live with that. Oh, and the main chick in it was pretty damn hot...

Oh, and Bow Wows car actually made my gag reflex kick in.:yuck:
Also, despite the engine choice, that mustang was bloody nice. 2nd best car in the movie (for me, stickers=NO) after vin Diesel's car. And the turbo they put in it, was the size of his bloody head. drool.

Trust me, this...thing...makes most of the cars on the questionable modifications thread look decent.

The sequence it was introduced in: Boxster/Elise/something else quite decent/:crazy: . I finished my exams yesterday, so I 'd been in the bar for some 6 hours before that. Took some keeping in.

I do like the expressions.
They look as if they're saying something to the crew.
Bow Wow - "What do I do now?"
Our Star - "WTF am I doing in this thing?"

I do believe you are the first person ever on GTP to say any fast and furious movie is "awesome".

Sorry, I have to prove you wrong here ;) I'd say that the first movie is awsome, I watched it for at least 5 times, so...yeah...awesome :D
FF3 TD will launch on July 13th here in Germany because of the FIFA World Cup, so I can't judge on the latest ... but since I love Japan and Tokyo, there is a pretty good chance that I also say : awesome ;)

I have to say, this movie was quite surprising. I was expecting some trash worse than 2F2F, but I liked it. Neela was freaking hot, too.

More muscle cars showed up to the premier than imports did. Although I did catch a glimpse of an RB Motoring R32 GT-R parked in the corner of the lot, way far off.

Edit: Yes, the movie was awesome. Personally, I think it's better than the first, but that's just me.

Saw it last night, they had tons of modififed imports (and a focus) outside the theatre, a lot of them were actually for sale. I took a few phone pics, but anyway..

The movie was ok, it wasnt like watching Initial D or anything though, the storyline is ok , but it was cheesy. Every solution to any problem was to race =p

The final battle was on a Touge mountain hill, Old School Mustang with i think a Nissan motor swap , vs a 350z.

Keiichi Tsuchiya made an appearence, I cheered more for that then when Vin Diseal made an appearence.

The fanboy test.
Cheer for Tsuchiya = Knows what's going on.
Cheer for Diesel = Ricer fanboy.

the ENTIRE audience went NUTS over the appearence of Vin. It was so loud you couldnt even hear the movie. keiichi's role was so small though, no one would have even guessed who he was.

just seen the movie in IMO its the worst of the 3.
they should have just got rid of the fast and furious name and called it tokyo drift and went on their on so to speak.
story line is "okish" but for the love of god why did they have to show cars drifting round EVERY SINGLE THING.
seriously,ok the movie is about drifting but i dont want see a car drifting ALL the time, car chase part mostly half way through is the prime example,i really would have enjoyed a proper good old car chase but no they had to drift round every car and every corner and it just got boring, and the same with the matrix style slow motion crap.
imo if they ditched the fast and furious name and a little less of the drifting in chase sequences and less slowmo it would have been better, but as it is very disappointing :(
3-4 out of ten

Tsuchiya was great and when he said you are the justin timberlake of japan were the highlights of the film for me

downloaded the movie, watched it. race scenes were pretty well done, but the rest was utterly boring. e-brake drifts? chavtastic. good looking girls though..

Same here, though mine cut off right when Vin was shown at the end.

Not bad, better than the 1st 2.

Downloading movies is illegal and sucks. Please don't discuss that kind of stuff on GTP. @Holdenhsvgtsr,Leonidae,*McLaren*

I thought people only cheered in Star Wars movies?:dopey:

havnt really been following this film, kinda stopped when i heard somethin about a mustang with a nissan engine... "and the exhaust sounds more like a UPS truck than a high-performance Mustang"

Cosmic
I disagree.
There might be some very rare exceptions, but in general it is illegal and we all know that it is true and that you don't pay for the downloads > the movie company won't see any money.
Uploading and downloading is wrong and illegal most of the time.

That fanboy test sure worked. During the part where Shawn was messing up the Evo, Keiichi Tsuchiya was shown as one of the fisher men in blue...No one in the audience seems to react at all. At the end where you see Vin Diesel...people cheered. Oh man it was great and I can't wait to go back to school and ask people:

"I saw the REAL drift king in the movie and I know his name. Do you?" :sly:

I'll be back later tommorow to tell you guys how many people actually noticed. By the way, I am not veru sure if I saw someone else special too. During the scene where Hans drift circles around that R33, that R33 driver looks like Verena Mai (spelling) :odd: My feelings keep on telling me its her, because she sure is beautiful. :sly:

Sadly to say, I actually liked that movie, BUT not like ALOT though. I felt quite connected to that movie since it was all "asian" up in there. Hot asian womens was what I paid MOST attention to during the movie. Other than that, I like some of the j-pop soundtrack it have in the movie. I am thinking about buying the soundtrack very soon.

unless your really into drifting i doubt anyone will have a clue who Keiichi Tsuchiya where as vin diesel is a much bigger name and has been part of the f&f series so obviously more people will react to him
