Like usual, Japanese release>US release
(In terms of quality as a whole.)

Well of course the Japanese release would be better in terms of quality, you're paying A LOT more for it. Of course the price tag still isn't justified.

At this point, I'm starting to justify it when I consider this.

It's pretty much the only thing that leads to them earning enough money back on anime production as I've heard when they've lowered the price before, it didn't increase sales much.

Gute Nacht, everyone. I have another exam tomorrow. :nervous: Business time would only interfere with my abilities.

What's funny in this thread is that people are claiming that if Japan just lowers their prices, then they are sure to make a lot more sales. Well, there have been lower-prices release box sets made available, and for almost every single one of them, the sales have been horrible. EMOTION The best has put out cheap DVD boxes of relatively popular shows like Sola, Banner of the Stars, Ah My Goddess, Galaxy Angel, Wolf's Rain, etc. Just type in EMOTION the best on Amazon.co.jp to see them all. But the point is that there have been a lot of these (relatively) cheap box sets made, and I have never seen a single EMOTION The best release ever make the Oricon charts. By doing a quick search, it seems for the most part the only things that have charted is Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell, and Yamato.

If only the story on this show wasn't so lacking. If it doesn't come into existence, the show will end up dropping to a 6/10, then a 5/10 for me.

Lowering prices getting horrible sales versus not lowering prices and getting possibly even less sales? *lifts an eyebrow*

Lowering prices can make you come at a loss, especially on something like anime (Read this for production costs. (Look at "Comparing Anime to Fishing")) which is a niche market. Try FUNimation and their cheap S.A.V.E. editions which are sold for $30 MSRP (Can be found for $20 or less at Amazon.). The S.A.V.E. releases don't make them much money. They've even said as much.

Considering those don't make them all that much, how do you expect R2 to fare when they go about slashing prices that have been there from the start? They've always been priced what they've been priced, and it's because of those high prices they'll actually make money back on a show. hissatsu01 is spot on here.

Forced? Fed up? How many titles have you bought at Japanese prices? I'm guessing the number is zero, so you haven't been forced to do anything.

Why don't you take a look at sales numbers for anime in Japan. Most titles sell a few thousand at best. Those that do poorly may sell in the hundreds. Out of 130 million or so people in Japan, only a few hundred thousand or so have any interest at all in buying anime, and even a smaller number actually follows currently airing anime and regularly buys shows.

Anime is not popular in Japan. It is a niche market. Most adults in Japan have zero interest in anime; you could give it away and most wouldn't care. Meanwhile anime production is relatively expensive and labor intensive, certainly far more so than the average Japanese TV programming. There is no ad money to speak of for the vast majority of shows. Most shows anime fans in the west follow are in debt when they've finished airing and have to make that money back from DVD/BD sales before they even start to make a profit. Small market plus expensive production = anime is expensive to buy in Japan.

Sales in the US and the rest of the world outside of Japan, for the most part don't pay for crap. For most shows it would never pay back production costs, let alone be profitable.

So unless you can find away to make anime in general several times more popular in Japan or make anime production several times cheaper, that "gouging" as you call it will continue. Just know that without that gouging much of the industry would cease to be profitable at all.

Annnnd to move this thread along, I learned about some more info on that Narukami figure.

yu4.jpg

Yu can be detached from the base, like any figurine should. The glasses are included and removable. (*wink* Cano)
It goes for $38, 6.24 inches tall, May release, Exclusive production run.

Izanagi is not part of this; sold as another product.

And TC, that One Piece girl for Cano? Seriously? One Piece doesn't do cute, so you should have expected the :yuck: response. And your followup photo response just proved the point.

haha, oddly enough I liked her. Way much more than the other girl he posted in his first post. Her weird outfit sealed the deal. She looks weird but cute in a way.

Ooo s*** is getting real in Rinne no Lagrange. This thing really isn't what I was hoping it would be, but if that means it will get a proper story I'm all for it.

It has some undertones but that's it.

The first episode was deceiving since it had some ecchi too, so I was hoping for yuri and ecchi. But we are already at episode 5 without any development in those areas so it probably will not happen after all. I hope it does get a good story otherwise it just won't have anything going for it.

See, now I'm not going to watch it. I was hoping it'd have enough yuri to counteract the mecha.

Do you know what I want? Solid yuri plotlines. Not ecchi or h-stuff. But a serious yuri story that can bring a tear to my eye.

I never heard of such a thing. Good luck finding one

But just in case you do, make sure you let me know :3

BTW, the mecha isn't really getting in the way. Not so far anyway.

Going to watch episode 5 of Rinne no Lagrange.

@Dravonic, yeah, the fanservice was there in episode 1, but after that, it's almost nonexistent. It deceived the viewers who were expecting more of that. No yuri development (Not like I want any anyway.), or more ecchi.

As long as they don't go over the top with the ecchi ever, and keep the story good, the show won't turn into a disaster like Demon King Daimao.

Shame VIZ Media most likely won't ever release it, so my only option is the imports.
