This Collet-Serra may be interested in sampling a few other anime. You know, ones that aren't films and where the characters have time to develop?

I always thought it was through big decisions rather than small and narrative ones. Like how Kiki actually goes forth on her grooming earlier than plan and if I remember, how Collet "tries" to stay strong to see her mom again.

Right...

I still can't believe the guy that's going to direct the live-action Akira film is saying this. Didn't Hollywood already learn from that mistake which must not be named a couple years ago? It sucked, people didn't even want to go the theater because of it, and other creators fear their work will end up like that if Hollywood gets their grubby little hands on it.

The live-action adaptation of Akira is doomed if you have a mindset that the characters aren't interesting, and this is always the case in Japanese media when that's so far from the truth you're nuts..

Wait, what?

It's okay. It'll most likely be trash and therefore, NEVER HAPPENED. The Chronicle will be as close as it gets to a live-action Akira. And it's okay.

I am okay. :indiff:

Without having any knowledge of Akira or the happenings with this live-action adaption I predict this will suck...because Hollywood.

As an older brother (my only brother and I are very close), I found the characters in Akira to be interesting on many levels. The dynamic of competition and care conflicting with one another while dramatic changes are occurring was one of my favorite elements of the movie.
For the director slated to do the live-action film to say they aren't interesting is both foolish and discouraging. I worry about the director's understanding of the story as well as his intentions regarding interpretation of that story.

Chances are he will ruin the movie by doing his own take on the characters rather than sticking to the source material. :(

Btw, the closest release of a live-action manga/anime adaptation is "All You Need Is Kill" going into theaters as "Edge of Tomorrow." I've already created a thread for it probably a month or so back but it oddly has no replies.
I'm guessing mecha combat against an invading alien race isn't all the interesting to the average viewer. :meh:

Still can't get over the fact the guy behind the light novel for All You Need Is Kill was behind this series.

Imagine if Hollywood was later like "Let's make another series from this guy into a movie. Holy crap, what is this? Why are they talking about lack of panties?".

Yes Pilot's Love Song, although the more accurate title is Certain Song of a Pilot's Love. The former is Crunchyroll renaming it on their own. But anyway, I feel kind of silly for not noticing the oddball of her character, but who in their right mind would've connected the two so easily? They didn't even have the same hair colour!

I hope it keeps something up because the show overall doesn't engage a strong interest. The end of it the pilot's goals don't seem solid and I'm having a hard time picturing some kind of ideal finale. Now that we know the twist of it all, it probably will end up in another hero-stubborn-boy-make-shy-girl-happy thing.

Oh lord, episode 6.... I'll bet you episode 7 and 8 will do some more unproductive stuff. Why do people soak up this stuff so easily?

The end to that ep. makes a daunting foreshadow to me..

For anyone who hasn't noticed yet, Touchstone (Well Disney to be more exact) is finally advertising The Wind Rises with these two TV spots. If anyone sees these on TV let me know, curious what channels they'll be on.

Opens limited February 21, then it goes wide release come February 28.

I'd presume the Disney channel would show them; I recall seeing some for a few of the previous Studio Ghibli films.

I'd have to question that, especially since this Ghibli movie is geared more towards adults.
