That bow is gigantic and the knees' positions still look strange to me.

But they introduced them in the order that appeals to the most fetishes. Which is why their bunny girl is most popular. Gives you some idea of the fanbase.

By any chance, would you happen to be talking about the flat-chested bunny girl who wears a miniskirt and striped thigh-highs? And is clearly wearing a black thong underneath?

Because if you are, then I simply cannot find enough words to say just how much I agree with you.

Bunny girls and flat chests...

NOPE. Just nope.

Yes. Shimakaze, the real sex appeal bunny of anime.

By contrast, Reisen isn't, numerically speaking, close to the very top - she's near the top of the H-doujin pile for Touhou but that's for another time.
But hey, we actually know something about the person, Reisen, not just a ship called Shimakaze.
And Reisen actually looks good. (Apparently she is my #4 in Touhou terms. Even I don't know how)

Oh sure, Shimakaze was the first so there is reason to have her as the most popular...but if the first you introduce is a bunny girl anyway then that's desperately sad.

Yup. Reisen does have a detailed backstory, a significant portion of which involves desertion from the military in order to avoid a major war in the year 1969; a status in canon as something better than "useless except for sex appeal"; and a wardrobe not specifically designed to keep guys up at night for tens of minutes.

The same can be said of nearly all the characters in Touhou, except for the desertion part -- the only two I can think of who don't really have "backstories" as such are Daiyousei and Koakuma, and even then they each have a somewhat well-defined role in canon (Cirno's friend and Patche's helper monkey, respectively)

Shimakaze, on the other hand, is little more than a moe anthropomorphism of her IJN destroyer namesake in a booth babe outfit. I'm not entirely sure how she's like in the KanColle canon, or how she's different from the other destroyer girls beyond her clothes (maybe she's a little faster and has a little more firepower? 'Twas the case with IJN Shimakaze).

I know the aircraft carrier girls wear traditional Japanese archery outfits and the submarine girls wear school swimsuits, but I couldn't tell you off the top of my head what other classes of ships are in the game, what those ship girls wear (except that it's some sort of fetish outfit) or any of the ship girls' names.

To avoid AUP troubles at :gtplanet:, don't talk about h-doujins.

And yet, guess what you just mentioned in your post:lol:

Obviously posting links to h-doujin or posting them inline would be frowned upon by the mods (read:immediate permaban), but merely acknowledging the fact that they exist doesn't seem to be prohibited.

LMAO, I wonder what makes Touhou any different (better?) than KanColle. I still don't know how cute anime girls have any relevance on a 2D shooter.

Her left or right knee?

Yes! That's the word I'm looking for, the lot of them. I mean, if you're making a battleship game, and describe them as ships, make them ships. Not girls.

You could argue, why not just have them as Gradius style space ships as per your typical 2D shooter? Yes, except in Touhou they are described as girls, which, in appearance, and reality, is what they are. In Kantai Collection they're described as ships, which, in appearance, they aren't.

Also, Touhou did the whole idea of sticking cute girls on the most unlikely genre first. So Kantai Collection is only original for its genre, not its goal.

The title itself should lend you a huge hand whether or not it'll be something you can get into. :D

This is coming from a dude who likes when media makes VG references.
There was a Twitch streamer who said:
"DUDE! I found the best anime. It's called No Game No Life. You should totally turn off my stream and go watch it."

So it's utterly without flaws? I doubt it. @Cano, set @Spektru straight on FLCL!

If the hype reaches a critical mass, I might check it out. The whole "video game references being the first thing people bring up when describing it" part is generally a warning flag to me that something is lacking in substance, but there are always exceptions, and I have no right to judge something I've not seen yet.

I guess anthropomorphism is a growing trend with everything. Shooting cursors, airplanes, ships, kaijus. :scared:

Okay, Touhou did it first. I take it you dislike anthropomorphism? What's your opinion on Strike Witches btw?

I guess it's different strokes for different folks? I absolutely hate mecha musume (Muv-Luv, Infinite Stratos*, etc. :yuck:) but I kinda dig these KanColle chicks because they're based on real life things as opposed to fantasy armor designed specifically for best display of T&A.

*Hate the mecha, like the girls :sly:

Strike Witches isn't personification/anthropomorphism, the girls are all genderswaps of World War 2 fighter pilots. They even mention in-universe that if they didn't face an outside threat (the Neuroi), they'd almost certainly be fighting amongst themselves (not just the girls themselves, but their respective home countries).

Oh, and Canada's SW counterpart is called Faraway Land, eh?

but I kinda dig these KanColle chicks because they're based on real life things as opposed to fantasy armor designed specifically for best display of T&A.

But the real life thing they're based on is warships. So surely that argument would only hold water if you actually liked the 'real life thing' in question? I mean, the way it's done, it's not like it's gonna get you into actual warships.

Why are you guys making such a big deal about this? Can't we all just agree that we all like different things and get on with it?

No, because then there would be very little discussion.

So, Welcome to the NHK. The first episode was superb, the rest has varied from rather dull to very good indeed. I ship the creepy otaku guy x the hikikomori guy.
