Seeing those screenshots make me think of the things that went down in Shirobako. Bad staffing, artists who can't draw well under pressure or tight dead line, or director not managing time well enough and having to allow rushed work to pass.

Shirobako is a lot better than I took it to be. The show gets into the pressure of working in an animation studio, and I assumed it was going to be the "girls fight on!" kinda deal. They do contain it, but they are dealing with the struggles in a mature manner than creating humour out of complaining out loud.

This.
This is why fanart exists.

Also I don't get why Japan likes England so much when they haven't done as much as the US has for them.
Well, I wouldn't know too much about that.

Well, they're both monarchies... They both are rather eccentric countries... Both have multiple local stereotypes shared between them which are also popular in the country itself... And both have wildly popular national drinks (Earl Grey tea for the UK, sake for Japan). But indeed, Japan tends to get along better with the USA than with the UK in terms of diplomacy (though the UK-Japan relations are very healthy, to say the least). But that's just my guess, we're not here to discuss geography, nor politics, nor political geography.

Do you still think Shirobako is a glorified perspective on anime production?

Also I think this may be relevant

Still? I think my perspective on producing anime has remained unchanged ever since I watched that one documentary on one or two studios. I wouldn't be surprised if Shirobako is a glorified perspective at the end of the day. A lot of fictional shows rarely step closer to reality in fear of losing the audience.

If you were asking about how I changed the way I think of Shirobako as a show, then I was making the assumption the show was going to fly off the typical premise of girls sharing the same goal but don't take the work seriously after their don-don-donuts huddle.

There is a lot of struggle seen in this show and it's great to see the writers not relying on cookie cutter comic relief expressions to keep the attention of the audience.

This is news to me but I think I might know why.

It's like our long lost twin brother. Think about it. It’s an overcrowded island nation that in recent history has enjoyed great power. What’s more, the Japanese have a fondness for good manners, bureaucracy and – when the chips are down – great cruelty. They drive on the correct side of the road. They have a royal family. And because they have built a society over thousands of years, they can tell where someone went to school, where they live and what their dreams and hopes are for the future simply by watching them hold a chopstick. In the same way, we know everything about a person if we discover they have a set of serviette rings.

I don't quite gather how I missed all of this but

The general waifu/glasses thread.

Would 👍

  • Wears glasses, looks like normal and shy busineswoman;
  • Takes glasses off, why hello there sexy lady. I believe we haven't met, there was this businesswoman I was talking to a second ago...

you suck.

Whoever she is, she looks prettier with glasses on. Everyone does, apart from me. I just look like a failed hipster with glasses on.

Pic or you're Shinji.
