So, Kimi no Na wa is localized in Russia and is now shown in cinemas. I guess I should watch sometime.

I'll be sorely disappointed if MF Ghost shows purely time attack runs in the Turnpike.

Probably it is a weekend track day? Since that thing is more common these days. Btw, I wish it would be like this :

A time attack is fine, but to build a story like this you need sense of competition so random race with random cars is perhaps what happened in MF Ghost imo. Anyway, let's wait and see on how the story progresses.

I'll bring this thread out of its slumber with the news that I've finally found some time to watch some of the Cinderella Girls anime.

I'm only four episodes in, mind. It's nothing special at the moment, but I'm expecting it to get better (much) later on. It's mostly been defined by funny little moments, but nothing too memorable so far. Still, it's fine for now.

Mind you, it might have helped if I hadn't known any of the characters at all going into this. As it is, I sort of knew what to expect from the lot of them. Very few of them have proven me wrong so far. Not all bad, mind you. Mio has proven her potential, she's golden. Rin is always good. Uzuki is only mildly annoying. Ranko is an even bigger fruitloop than I first thought. And Mika is still really good...except her voice, weirdly. It is odd, but when she breaks into song it's perfect. Told you she was a proper, proper idol.

Animation is a country mile above Love Live's in the songs. None of that jarring CG makes it massively better. Then again, the animation outside them is far from sparkling, but then that's not really the point here. Even the music itself has all been pretty good. And there's probably other things I've noticed, but not well enough to remember them right now.

So, yeah. Still waiting for it to kick on a little. But when it does, I reckon it'll be pretty good. I might have to wait a long while before it reaches its very best, though.

If you want to animate an idol dancing and singing this is how you do it (It is not an idol anime btw) :

The use of CG while it is common in idol anime imo is too much. I understand it is likely more practical and convinient while also saving time on production schedule (presumably to save budget as well). However, it is not like the entire season we have all the main characters dancing and singing all the time. At least a half portion of the show then the rest is pretty much main or filler story.

And simply put, I would be glad if it is done in more traditional way tbh, as the video shown above.

Making anime on a weekly basis is extremely stressful, and I can totally understand if studios would rather use tools that help reduce time and effort. Aren't idol anime mainly focused on just driving up popularity with less focus on the passion of animation? If so, then that's a good financial strategy, because who would care about the minority of a fanbase when they can continue to keep the majority (likely the ones throwing the most amount of dough at them) hooked with 3D CGI?

Yeah, idol anime is solely relying on the marketing aspect rather than being artistic work from what I have seen. And knowing tight schedule these animators had, it is okay to prefer practical solutions imo. Tbh I'm just curious if there is somewhere in the future there is some people or certain studio willing to do more effort and make an idol anime that is also focus and take care on it's aesthetics as experimental project.

Nevertheless, I don't say CG animation seen in Love Live or Idolmaster is not good. They are actually quite decent and done pretty well imo.

IMO:

If I was a talented cook, I'd aim higher than just nailing the perfect timing for deep-frying french fries. Yes hitting the perfect temperature and cook time can make for exceptional crispiness, but if I possessed the skills & experience to cook up tastier foods than fried potatoes, I'd much rather invest my time and effort into that instead.

Likewise, if art studios wanted to go all-out and make something really good, I think the effort would be much better spent doing something other than idol-related stuff.

Nichijou's comical animation is bomb for exemplifying emotions through over-exaggerated actions.
Garden of Words was also bomb in capturing the little details of our everyday surroundings.

Well, I guess I was too exaggerated wanting an epic and gorgeously artistic idol anime. Also as you said that it is likely better to spent the whole thing on adaptations or works that have more weighs and valuable impact rather than making a featured show simply just for the use of marketing push is acceptable reason imo.

Anyway, there are lots of anime titles and genre to satisfied your needs btw, idol anime is just a little piece of the spectrum. I guess I'm fine with that.

To be honest I would quite like an idol anime with a difference. With the kind of x-factor bdj was talking about with the animation. Secretly, I'd probably quite like a Madoka-esque deconstruction, but doing that to the idol genre of all things seems a bit mean.

Not sure if I'll get through much more of CG tonight. There are four new games coming my way today plus a game of footy. But they're not that important really so I might as well give it a go.

Today, on my way home, I decided to search when to watch Kimi no Na wa in a cinema, and it was going in a cinema just on my way soon. Well, it was perfect time to support the anime industry in Russia, thought I and came in. There were about 10 people in the hall, less than on a normal movie but more than I expected.

So... Very, very good. My score is solid 8/10. (Actually, it deserves more, but not from me - that's just not my favourite kind of anime.) Never watched anything from Makoto Shinkai, but now I'm interested to check out something more.
The dub was decent, but the Russian voice actress makes Mitsuha sound like she's 35 years old. :D

So while I was looking around pics of Super GT itasha racers, this one caught my interest.

I wonder if Shinryaku! Ika Musume is any good. I'll probably give it a try when I have free time.
*looking at pilot name* Yamauchi? Ah, that's not that one.

Not really. Some of the gags are hilarious, most of the gags were things I got tired of personally.
I'll give it a try later. Comedy is another genre I liked aside from romance, slice of life, shoujo, and drama.

That girl on the F430 did caught my eye though.

NEW WAIFU DETECTED.

Another four episodes of Cinderella Girls down.

So, the drama hit. But not when I expected it. Not this soon. Definitely not so suddenly. And I didn't see it getting resolved so quickly. And it's all Mio's fault.

Who the hell kicks up a fuss because there weren't enough people in the crowd? That's not how this works. You brought it on yourself by peeking before the performance. And she thought she was gonna get the same reception as the first time with Mika? Listen, mate, there's a reason you were a back-up dancer then; cause you ain't Mika yet. And because of it she might have ruined herself. Luckily, she realised she dun goofed in the next episode and everything was OK. So don't worry, I reckon she's still great. Maybe the drama could have dragged on longer...but I'm told that kind of drama will have to wait till later.

And I have to ask, at what point did Mio get made leader anyway? I must have missed that. But what I'm sure I didn't miss was her literally saying Uzuki should be leader as oldest girl. Still, the way she's acted throughout she might as well be the main character, even if she isn't really. I suppose, in that respect she's like LL's Honoka gone right. She projects the good kind of energy, knows when to admit mistakes and she is - and this is important - really very charming. And yet at the end of the day she is flawed deep down. Which is fine. Cinderella Girls has 198 other imperfect idols, after all. Also we aren't being asked to believe she's the main character, unlike Honoka who we very much know is Love Live's main character, to her detriment and its own.

P.S. I also have to question putting the New Generations performance over the top of Love Laika's (excellent) song. Had me confused as hell until I worked it out.

Thoughts on a few other characters since I last talked about them:

Rin is basically Kimi Raikkonen. Can't get a word in edgeways but is still really cool anyway. I'm just expecting her to say 'bwoah' at this point.
Miku is a ****ing bitch. And I thought her catgirlness was bad enough as is. Turns out she's also an entitled whiner as well. Needed smashing over the head with a chair in Episode 5.
Anya is still a great person and a great performer with Minami. Bless her, she has to share a dorm with three mentalists. Must be like being the only sane person in a lunatic asylum. She has also said 'Harasho' at least once. Imposter! There is only room for one Russian idol here...
Ranko is still as mad as ever, but credit to her for doing a good thing in her big episode (8). Because, while she might be a full on chuunibyou, she also got a phenomenal song. No other series would dare to try something quite like her image song...I suppose I must mention, I reckon iM@s is a country mile in front of anything else for music and I've only heard about seven of its songs. The reason is, most of the songs I've heard have been terrific. So I suspect the many I haven't heard yet are up to a very similar standard.

So, yeah. Onwards I go. The series is picking up speed now. Good, I say.

I don't need a spoiler to know it's garbage

So... is there anybody here waiting for what shows to watch in upcoming season? Myself can't wait to watch second season of Kekkai Sensen. Still not checking other titles besides Mahoutsukai no Yome and Two Car that I have seen the trailer already. I might check is there any titles that pick my interest later on.

Atm this season so far seems going well for me. Idk about what others feel is the same way as I do, but this season as a whole is fine I guess. Now, near to the end of summer season I wish it can give a good final impressions.

It is common practice to provide an image for everyone when bringing up the new season...

fall-2017.jpg

That being said the absolutes would be:

Food Porn Wars.
Ancient Magus' Bride

Maybes:
Houseki no Kuni
Omiai Aite wa Oshiego, Tsuyoki na, Mondaiji
Code:Realize: Sousei no Himegimi

Oh yeah Food Wars, almost forgot about that I also looking forward for that. And Houseki no Kuni surprisingly has decent and nice CGI animation there, might check that out.

Also, there is this. Can't wait to see his latest creation :
