Random subject; how did you guys get into anime? I always enjoy hearing peoples stories about this, as I've heard a few weird ones.

Mine,

About 3 years ago my friend was bugging me to watch a show, said show was Death Note. I was refusing for days, but he was bugging me every lesson and even at breaks in the bistro he wouldn't shut up. I was getting pretty fed up so I agreed to watch "one" episode when I got home, I intended to keep my promise so I googled the first episode and got watching a random stream. My face melted with the sheer awesomeness and I watched the whole show in one sitting(I swear this isn't BS), thankfully it was a friday and didn't have school the following day.

That's a pretty good show to start with. Mine was way back in high school. I'd get home and watch Toonami. First up was DBZ and Sailor Moon so while they were on I did my homework and chores. Then I'd watch Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, Outlaw Star, Blue Sub No. 6 etc. At the time I didn't know it was anime. They were just cartoons I liked. Then I figured out what it was and looked for more which lead me to great stuff like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun and the best anime ever NGE.

Mine is when a friend of mine kept obsessing over the show known as, "Initial D", he kept saying things such as, "You should watch it", and, "It's got classic Japanese vehicles, you like those, right?". So one day, I eventually watched the first episode he linked me, and after watching it, I fell in love. I wondered what type of cartoon this is, and why isn't this shown where I live. My friend eventually explained that it's a Japanese cartoon animation known as, "Anime". Well that, of course, is when I searched it, and found my first, non-racing Anime, Clannad.

That's my story, and now I have an Anime Obsession. :p

I'll have to thank my friend for introducing, we're not friends anymore, but I admire him for this. ;)

I'm only 19, so I missed most of those shows growing up as they'd already been and gone, apart from Dragonball and Gundam. Infact, I'm not even sure all those shows aired in the UK to begin with :/

But yeah, I'm guessing most got into anime that way. I did watch Dragonball but had no idea what it was, so I don't really class it as my first show :p

Rather similar to my story, thank god for annoying friends, eh?

I don't count Dragonball either because it sucks. I tried watching it but couldn't get into it. I never gave Sailor Moon a try because to me it was a girl show. That's why I did my homework and chores while they were on so they would be done and I could watch the good stuff lol.

I believe the first anime I watched was either the second Street Fighter film, or Fist of the North Star. Actually, neither of those is true, it was either G-Force or Voltron. I love FoTNS but haven't seen it in years (and I do mean years), but I've always appreciated fine animation and anime just escalated things to the point where I was spoiled rotten. Then came Toonami; DBZ, Outlaw Star (another anime I love), Lupin The Third, etc, but perhaps most importantly - Gundam Wing.

I've had a fascination with robots since I was 5 or so, and seeing GW when I did sparked instant interest. From Wing I just researched and researched; checking MAHQ and Gundam Project almost every single day. The rest is basically history, I'm a bonafide Gundam geek and I'm still learning every single day. Now I'm beginning to watch anime as I used to.

I watched adult swim. Saw Inuyasha/Cowboy Bebop/Trigun

First Mech Anime: Big O

Fell in love.

I started watching a while back when I saw NGE. Then eventually EoE came out, and I became hooked on Evanime. And then when I was looking for more, I found my new favorite Evanime, Rebuild of Evangelion.

And that's how I became a fan of Evanime.

:dopey:

You are my new hero.

Like I've said in the past, I wasn't aware of what "anime" was even though I had watched a bit of Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Gundam Wing and Beyblade when I was littler. Fast forward some years to like 06-07, I began watching Inuyasha, only a few episodes of Naruto, and later on, Gundam Seed, still unaware that I've been watching anime. Never finished Inuyasha, though.

TV died off since I became so attached to the internet.

Last September-October, there was a thread titled "Boobies", and you can imagine what the purpose of that thread was, some kid posted a pic and left the title of the show. So I went and had a look-see at the show, got turned off by the excessive fanservice by the 2nd episode. BAM I officially got into anime from there on, starting off with tons of Ecchi, like Kanokon, Rosario+Vampire, and Omamori Himari.

Wait, what? The excessive fanservice turned you off, so then you got into anime?

Sounds more like it turned you on. :sly:

At first it did, but you know when things get taken too far or when it's in-your-face to the point you just want it to back the heck off?

Yeah, I had that experience...I just hate it when unnecessary actions are made; You know need boobs jiggling in your face to have a conversation.....

Nothing wrong with a little boob jiggle. It's a fairly unobtrusive form of fanservice IMO. :p

Boobs are supposed to jiggle. I just count that as them taking into account physics which helps make the show more believable.

'Kay now you guys are just trolling me :p

Fanservice? Second Episode?

Is it Highschool of the Dead?

That stupid show...

Watch The Walking Dead. It isn't close to being the same but it reminded me of that show but it was 10x better. It's not anime though. The 2nd season should be out soon too.

Added to my "list of anime to watch soon" list.

Really? They look pretty generic to me. You can probably find better fanservicey anime than that without even trying, Sephy. :yuck:
