All I say is Tokyo Pop need to get their ass straighten up, no more cut scenes, for example Real Bout High School has a part on the JDM manga version in which is not on the US version which sucks. And their name alteration, Initial D is the perfect example to that, unlike Viz, and ADV which keeps the character names untouched, TP alters is in wants to westernize Initial D, in which a lot of Anime fans furious. Tokyo Pop distributes a lot of good mangas but if they still continue what they're doing, they will REALLY lose their anime fanbase. :grumpy:

I definitely have to agree with you on this point. After having heard of what Tokyo Pop did to Initial D in their manga, I have not bought any of their manga; nor did I have any before I heard about that, but I really do not think I trust them enough now to buy any from them. Viz is awesome from what I have seen so far in the RK series. Dark Horse, what little I have looked at it, seems to be very good also. I have only read a little of the Trigun and Trigun Maximum manga that I have and what I have read seems to be pretty good.
 
Viz did a very good work with the Gunnm (battle angel Alita - Best manga EVER) some years ago and is doing some good stuff on it's second part now. I think you all that get to buy mangas from those kinda companies should NOT buy TokyoPop stuff even if they do Initial D or anything you really want. I remember that some company once brought the Rayearth Manga over to Mexico, but they altered it and translated it with the names they had given the characters in the anime, when they dubbed it for the airing in latin america. it wasn't much of a disaster because everyone was used to see them as "Lucy, Marina and Anais", but changing the names to a series that has never been touched (like, again, Initial D) is just too much. It's awful enough to have initial D, but it gets even worse when Takumi is called Mike (for example...) and listens to 50 cent in the car. Lame.

I just bought "Azu Manga Daioh vol. 1, 2, 3, and soon 4" manga in which was distributed by ADV manga, which is pretty good compared to the ones that Tokyo Pop made (in which I own Initial D, Ai Aoi Aoshi, Love Hina, A.I. Love you, and GTO), and I wasn't very impressed on what they've done.

BTW, who distributes Tenchi Muyo manga? They're quite good too. :) 👍

How lame is Tokyo Pop for doing such a thing? Why can companies just not directly translate--while making things flow well, if and only if it is absolutely necessary--and leave it at that? Why do they think us Americans and Westen Hemispherians, in general, need to have things dumbed down or easier?

reading Battle Angel Alita would be the best thing you could do. As I said, best manga ever. and maybe best Manga Art ever. Yukito Kishiro has been the only one that has left me THAT amazed. He made my jaw drop more times than I care to count while reading the manga. Simply amazing, you HAVE to check it out.

Hey Cano, what is Battle Angel Alita about?
 
ok, lemme see what can I say... about an old, really old (but goddamn HOT AND SEXY, maybe the sexiest character ever made, too, not to mention the coolest, wich she IS) female cyborg who is found in the Scrapyard by a guy, he reconstructs her and thus she begins a new life with so many shapes, adventures, disasters, violence, changes, and body reconstructions... as much as you would experiment in your real life. As for Alita is a reflection of the life each of us struggle with every day, with a bit of imagination and creativity thrown in by Kishro for good measure. From goign away from your parent's house to loosing your best friend and that constant on every one of us: trying to find who we really are and what are we up to. Alita is such a great damn character and the manga is just too damn good because of that, but it takes these situations to a post apocaliptic world when cyborgs and humans "cohabite", where there is a city in the sky and it has its scarpyard, a city in its own sad way, with violence and tenderness combined in a mechanical monster 5 meters tall and with the form of a worm... its just a freaking tour de force. and it has the most awesome artwork you will see in quite some time. As I said, Kishiro turned in my absolute favorite artist after I read Gunnm. Just, dude, get it. Im not the only one who thinks its one of the greates, if not the greatest manga of all times. But hell im one of its stronger fans.

as for manga, Blame! is by far my fav. All the rest of nehei's work are great too, snikt! with wolverine was a colorful piece too!
 
Well the next time I go to Waldenbooks, I'll check into getting some Battle Angel Alita and Blame. Now only to find money to pay for it . . . time is not a problem, but money can be.
 
it can be some trouble to find Alita, because it was edited some years ago, but it can't be that hard, if the store you talk about sells past mangas they oughta have it.

I watched the anime version of Alita, it was impresive. I also glanced the manga, it was good but I'm not very big on sci-fi/action. :)
 
Oo the anime version of alita is utter trash. it is one of those examples of how unfortunate the translation from manga to anime becomes. Alita could have been a very good anime, but it turned out bad. the manga on the other side is, well, marvelous....

and she's more than ten years old. in fact, I THINk that Kishiro started the manga in the very late 80s
 
Yeah that is a great manga series... I remember reading the whole(almost) first series of it....... I kinda don't get the last part but..... Definately enjoying.......
I think Ghost in the Shell's manga is really great too... (It does look old however)

Well if you keep watching the show, it will tell you what Takumi's dad does to the Eight-Six. But if you absolutely want to know, I will tell you; just ask.
 
his dad bunta, put in a group A engine which is a racing engine, and its a 2001 engine with 201 hp
 
Bunta, took out the 4A-GE and put in an AE111's engine--it might be AE101, I can not remember at the moment--and like nightkids said, it is a racing engine. And again like nightkids said it makes around 200 horses, but the biggest thing about it is that it redlines at 11,000rpm's! :eek: :drool:
 
But why did Takumi say that the car felt slower and unresponsive?
BTW which book is that on? I read as far as I can in the book store and it kinda ended before that......

Takumi says the car feels slower and unresponsive because he is only revving the engine to what the stock car's engine would rev too. He thought Bunta just put in an engine that would be the exact same spec as the original engine. It is not until he finds out that the engine will rev higher that he learns it is more responsive and faster. Bunta had set up the car to handle well when the revs are very high, like before Takumi blew the engine. Takumi just did not know he had thousands of more revs available to use.

Saturday Anime Review!

First off is my own sorrow with regards to "anime unleashed."

I was never really a fan of the shows they aired with the exception of my favorite tenchi muyo rip off. "Dual" is a great little mix of humor, fan service, mech combat and of course, that tenchi-like story of 6 women for one man. :dopey:

Well the sad news regarding anime unleashed is that I spent a few minutes yesterday reading through the anime unleashed schedule for the next month or so and there wasn't a single episode of dual in the works. :(

Oh well...

Adult swim, toonami, or whatever they call that crap now, has started airing the fight between yuske and tagoro (sp?). 👍
It will be interesting to see this chapter of the yu yu hakashu story come to a close. I already know the story in general, but I haven't seen the episodes.
However, knowing the story leads me to believe this is gonna be an interesting mix of awesome powers facing off and character development for everyone besides the two fighters.

I hope you all manage to catch an episode in the future cause it looks like the best is yet to come. ;)

Now we also have Inu Yasha to deal with... :(
I love the show, commented on that several times in the past in this same thread.
However, right now I'm a little pissed... it seems the creators thought a 3 part episode would be fun for everyone. Lord knows I wouldn't mind it if there wasn't a FULL WEEK between each episode on cn, but since there is a full week, I'm gonna have to say. 👎

I want to see Inu yasha: new episodes, 6 nights a week. :D

It wasn't bad, but there was more story telling than action, and there was more love story development between kikyo and inu yasha then I wanted. :indiff:

I actually happened to catch the last half of the YuYu episode and it was not bad, but I have no idea how the story goes in the series, as I have only seen like a grand total of five episodes of YuYu. Does anyone happen to know how many episodes of YuYu there are?

Also, I watched Inu Yasha and still do not have a clue what is going on in the series. It is kind of hard to get into a series if you have no idea what the story is behind the series.

And I watched Gundam SEED. It was a pretty good episode, though I do not have any idea what is happening in it either.

Man, I do not know much. :lol: :lol: :lol:
