The best mobile suits would definitely be found in the original series and not the alternates like Wing or SEED. Suits from the alternates seem immature and gaudy.

Here's my top 3 'best' Mobile Suits:

RX-93 Nu Gundam Char's Counterattack

The best part about this suit are the fins. It can be used as a shield and a weapon. Not only it's a Gundam, but the paint scheme looks good on it too.

RX-78 GP01 Zephyranthes Gundam (Full Vernian) 0083

This has to be the coolest Gundam still using the traditional 'Gundam Style' of design. With the full vernian, it can maneuver in space. All the Gundams in 0083 are named after flowers. Zephyranthes is a white rain lily, how suitable for a machine of war.

The best thing about the NT-1 are the guns mounted on the arms. 0080 is so short, I don't think this Gundam got it's fair share of TV time.



No Zaku fans? I think they're ugly. :)

Yeah, Jehuty looks cool, but not very realistic. The lights on the body, the style, the weapons all look cool. But, the thing that gets me is the cockpit location. It's in the crotch...

Orbital Frames would be second in line to original series Mobile Suits, IMO.
 
EVA-01 is sick, until you pulled its plug on its back. 👎

I do love those three gundams named above, they are probably my favorites, and you're damn right about the 0080 gundam not getting it's fair share of time on display. :irked:

I personally still think of the full vernium unit as king. :D
But the RX93 is really a perfect match for the king. ;)

I gotta mention though, I really don't like the "no feet" zone of enders mechs. Even though they are cool, I see them as nothing more than nge rips. (even if they are the brain child of such a famous and talanted man. )

Now nge, that series has without a doubt the best "fake" gundams.

I say that because it is like UC gundams (such as the full vernium or the rx78) are all based on being realistic. The abilities to move and the weapons... they are all slightly limited by real world-ish limitations. I mean, you really shouldn't be able to make that much metal move so quickly, and so, in the UC they make that an issue.

But for non real world movements, the evas are king. They are so smooth in their movements and the fighting is so fast on a ground based level.

I would have to say without a doubt that the gundams of the UC take the real world title and the evas of nge take the limitless world title.

Did any of that make sense. :rolleyes:

btw, Im a fan a zakus to an extent, but I really like the gouf more. Especially that special gouf in 08th ms... the one with a special gatlin gun attachment. :trouble:

Just for the record,EVA's are slow compared to OF's.Much weaker also.Anubis alone would wipe the floor with them.
And OF's aren't supposed to walk,there are OF's that have feet but they aren't C-type(Combat-Type) OF.I like NGE series and the EVA's but when it comes to power,style,abillity they are ancient compared to Orbital Frames.

I just have problems with the designs of the z.o.e. mechs.

They just don't sit right with me.

Also, the power of an OF is not an issue since we are talking about cross series comparisons.

That sort of cross series comparison is always a waste of time because the frames of refference are different and in the end, both shows make attempts at showing incredibly powerful mechs, but each series is going to do that differently.

I mean, you can barely compare AC gundams to UC gundams, none the less, gundams to evas or evas to OFs.

So I say the only thing you really have going for you is the style issue.

If you preffer the OFs over the evas or the gundams, fine, that's cool, you can like which ever you want.

But in terms of saying one is more powerful than the other... that is like saying spike could take out lupin. No matter how much you argue, you just can't compare two different series. (unless you have a published crossover like batman vs superman, or batman vs spawn, and in that case, it is still highly subjective.)

Another comparison like that would be trying to say kenshin is a better swordsman than jubei from ninja scroll... you just can't compare the two since they are from different series.

Same goes for about a dozen other fairly common comparisons.

Anyway, that's cool if you like the OFs looks more than the gundams or evas... but trying to talk about which is stronger or anything like that. :rolleyes:

Oh yeah, speed is another thing that really has no base in the conversation since each series, once again, has it's own frame of refference... in each series, the creators are going to create the limitations and how far beyond the real world limitations each series may go is different.
But in the end, that frame of refference and limitation is what dictates the speed, power and ability of each mech.

If I say a mech can run 600mph, who is to argue with me?
If you say a mech can only run 100mph, who am I to argue with you?

All we can do is talk about how fast or strong individual mechs are with in their own series.

I just thought of another great comp to express my point.
Who would win in a fight, Peter Griffin or Homer Simpson?
Who is less intelligent, Peter or Homer?

Hmm... That better not show up in a new thread either.
btw, we could sit and argue about those two, but we would never be able to finish the debate.
 
If you would just take the specs of the three(OF,Gundams and EVA's) and compare the with each other,you would see that the Orbital Frames are superior in any way.The EVA's are pretty fast for their size but nowhere near OF's(wich have Zero-Shift,teleportation),in other words EVA wouldn't even see an OF coming at him/her.Gundams are plain slow.OF's can generate around 10 times the power of an EVA,rendering it's AT field useless.None of the weapons that EVA's use would be able to hit an OF because of their speed.Let's see,what else.Orbital Frames automatically regenerate when damaged,they have infinite power(metatron doesn't run out).Oh and did i mention the Vector Cannnon,wich would blow anything into oblivion.OF's aren't affected by gravity,wich enables thm to move extremely fast.The Gundams are the weakest of the three but are mnore down to earth(wich isn't the issue).It would look like this.
OF>EVA>Gundam.

well the new UNIT 1 has a chainsaw for a weapon and the OF's doesn't have a beserker mode which made the EVAs poweful and faster, and EVAs do regenerate.. the only possible way on deafeating a eva is to take out the soul from the eva or blowning it up

Not a problem. If you really like Trigun--like say as much as I do--you could just pick up the whole box set on eBay. Around the time when I got mine, I looked at a couple other auctions that had closed and I've seen one box set go for $80! :eek: I would say normal though is about $120--though I paid alittle more since I really wanted mine and couldn't wait to get it. But if you don't buy the whole box set, you could just get the one DVD and get the others as you got the money . . . that reminds me, I'll need to look at eBay and see if they have the two sessions of Bebop that I still don't have.

With all this Gundam talk, I'm thinking I might either have to start buying a Gundam series or at least buy some Gundam manga. What series does everything think would be the best to start with?
 
Obviously, SEED is NOT the best place to start. You'll be lost with all the jargon they use. Just because NK4Ever thinks it's the best since slice bread, doesn't make it the most welcoming to new comers. Plus, it's an alternate universe series, not based on any of the main Gundam series. Basically, it's a stand alone product.

The best would be the original series from 1979. Reading the magna is best, since the dub for original Gundam is lacking somewhat. It starts out with the One Year War and introduces you to the Gundam universe. All series after this refer to this time period heavily, so it's best to start here, or you'll never understand what is going on in the later series.
 
Nope, I think the original Moble Suit Gundam is the best place to start with, if you're interested on the UC era. But if you like the Alternate's, Gundam Wing is the best.

I've seen some of Gundam Wing, at least half of the series. Plus I've seen Endless Waltz. Gundam Wing would have been the first Gundam series I had actually seen a lot of. I've seen a whole lot more of G Gundam, enough of it to actually pretty much understand most of the story, though I do need to see the whole series through to fully understand it.

What kind of flip flopper are you NK4Ever? You say SEED, now 08th MS? You'll never understand 08th MS if you haven't seen the original Gundam first.

I haven't seen all of Wing; but it is kinda like G Gundam where I've seen enough of it to get at least somewhat of an understanding of the series, but not a complete one. I've seen like two episodes of 08th MS and didn't have a clue on what was going on. I've seen alittle of the original Gundam, but not enough of it to understand what was going on in it either.

Well... that highlighted stuff says it all. ;)

I'm guessing by "specs" you mean the made up values for performance that each creator put on the machine. (the make-believe, not at all real machines mind you.)

This is exactly the issue... you see, the three series in question are all based around different levels of reality.

In each series, the creators decided what the limitations of the universe would be... in one series, it's not going to be the same as the other, but in all cases, the mechs will be pushing the limits.

So comparing one world where floating, regenerating mechs with unlimited energy are the norm, to another world where ground pounding is still the norm for combat is just like comparing homer and peter.

Cross series comparisons just don't work. Flat out.

Especially when you are talking about the made up stats on imaginary mechs.

Then also take into account that the three different series never even acknowledge the existance of the other series and all you end up with is an analysis of fake machines, with fake stats and totally different universes for each to be measured in.

Bottom line: You can not compare different mechs from different series.

Btw, what do you have to say about this, as well as the more important topic of cross-series-comparisons. (jubei vs kenshin, spike vs lupin)

I mean, cross series comparisons are just rediculus.

Something that would make more sense is a comparison of gundam vs gundam from the same timeline.
Or comparisons of OF vs OF.

But comparing gundams, OFs and EVAs is not just like comparing apples and oranges, but actually more like comparing apples from mars and apples from venus.

When the frame of refference or relativity is the same, I might think about accepting some sort of made up specs, but for the time being, I'm gonna be realistic about this.

Fact is, you can not compare gundams, OFs and EVAs because they are all from different universes with different rules.

I mean come on, can you not see why comparing these different mechs from different series is an invalid comparison.

It would be like comparing my weight on earth to your weight on mars.
Sure, we are both people, but our weights are relative to our places.

Same goes for mechs.

What is your take on Ninja Scroll? I've seen it advertised in one of the weekly Best Buy ads you get in the newspaper. I thought of getting it--pretty sure it was the movie--but I'm kinda skeptical on buying any anime unless I've read good reviews or seen it myself. Anime is just too expensive to buy and then not like it, be it only just one DVD of the series, one of the movies, etc.

I agree with you that you can't really compare characters in different series, though Vash would take just about everyone with Kenshin being right behind him in overall dominance. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Since we are on the topic of Ninja Scroll, how is the Ninja Scroll series?
 
They can be compared GoKents.Let's just say you have never seen an EVA or an OF.Those imaginary specs that the creators thought up are both written down on a pice of paper and you compare the two.It's simple.It has nothing to do with the series or how they measure the power of these two.Just spec wise comparison.Well then,i have been looking around and found the following:

EVA 01 has a 40 Gigaton power output compared to Anubis's 200 teratons.EVA 01 has no weapons that can damage Anubis except maybe the Longinus Spear(if it could hit Anubis).EVA 01 is slow because it's big(around 5 times the size of Anubis).EVA 01 has it's AT field wich can sustain up to 120 Gigaton of punishment(the Vector Cannon that Jehuty uses has a power output of almost 500 Teratons so the AT field is annihilated).Anubis can teleport,EVA 01 would not be able to touch him.So it's pretty obvious that the EVA's don't stand a chance.There are only a few Super Mechs that are more powerfull then Anubis and the likes and those are the SDF-1,Shin Getter,Neo Getter 1 and a few more.
