What has anime gone to now ? If you find a anime called higurashi, I believe. Though I think that it is good but I am wondering what era of anime are we in?

Can we really call an era a 'moe' era? I figure anime has been focused around adorable cute things (pardon my loose definition of moe - I classify most things that are not hot but rather cute or likable in some way as moe) since about the dawn of mankind, and the only reason it'd be called a 'moe' era is since that word seems to have been gaining popularity as of late.

Although, I won't deny at all that there are a lot of shows with 'moe' aspects in them now.

Where would one era start and another begin though? What would be the defining shows of this era?

The big names I can think of recently, just from recognition: Haruhi Suzumiya, Death Note, Code Geass pretty much for sure - although they all attract different crowds.

Shuffle! and Kanon are pretty big among the eroge/ren'ai fans like me, Naruto and Bleach are still going, Lucky Star's good for the slice-of-life/humor crowd (as mentioned, those who like Azumanga Daioh), I have no idea what sola is (don't spoil, I've only got the first episode) but it's a pretty popular one too.

The trend at least the way I see it is towards more anime based on visual novels (both adult and non-adult in nature), although I don't know how you would put that into an era. Both Key (Kanon, AIR, Clannad) and Type-Moon (Tsukihime, Fate/Stay Night, Kara no Kyoukai) have had many works animated. Shuffle! and Tokimeki Memorial are big name one-off series that got anime based on them as well, not to mention School Days being animated during the upcoming summer season.

If you don't know any of those titles, don't worry :) It's a big field out there and I just happen to specialize in it. I don't think there's one all-encompassing trend in anime yet, just fads. One year there might be more action anime, one year more serious, romance types, one year more random insanity, who knows.

That's my two cents on where anime is headed, although I've only really gotten into it hardcore in the last year or so. Hope this helps someone.

By the Funimation channel do you mean Colours TV with the 8PM to 12Pm block of anime? Or am I missing alot more anime than i had originally believed?

Yeah, I take that back, because the shows I've seen recently (Elfen Lied, Lucky star) has moe in it .

Has anyone made up an anime in their head before? I have,it involved street racing, and "scary movie" type parodies :)

the anime shows that i'm into are:

- Samurai Champloo (was obsessed with)
- Bleach (Really gaining interest)
- Eureka 7 (Into for a while, wasn't too excited about it)
- Trinity Blood (Was into it at start, just got way too off track for me)
- Full metal Alchemist (Watched a few episodes, I'd like to see some more)
- Inuyasha (Hated at first, but then sat down to actually watch and i love it)

I've also been interested in getting some anime swords such as Ichigo's cutting moon zangetsu here

So...
Did I mention that I just recently watched all five OVAs of Macross Zero? That a pretty cool series. 👍
Really enjoyed the combat scenes. :D

Also, have I mentioned that I've been catching up with Naruto?
I haven't watched everything in the original series but I have managed to watch all 18 episodes of Naruto Shippuden. 👍

I'm very happy to see they didn't just stop with the series after Sasuke and Naruto's final fight in the original series. It's awesome to know they plan on taking the series to a proper end. :trouble:
Should be great fun to see what happens as things unfold.

Well that's about it for me lately. Hope you all are finding time to watch a few shows here and there.

-Samurai Champloo is just flowing with awsomeness

-Bleach is just awsome. Period.

-Eureka 7 is an incredible show, the only problem was that Renton and Eureka couldn't stop telling each other how much they love each other,'til the point it got annoying.

-Inuyasha was good, but it got really repeatitive and quickly turned into "DBZ for girls".

Even though I've always liked Inu Yasha, that comment is flowing with awesomeness. 👍

Btw, did anyone else get to see the last episode of Inu Yasha?
I'm not going to spoil it until I've been given the go-ahead so feel free to let me know if you all are interested in hearing the ending. :D

I haven't bothered yet, been to lazy to acquire the rest. But yeah, it does get old quick and is a girl's anime (thinks of wife and her friends and sisters all liking it).

I've just been reading Bleach recently, and caught back up reading Naruto... too much of a Manga guy I guess.

I may have seen the ending of InuYasha, though it would have been a while ago and I could not really remember it.

Did not watch a lot of Trinity Blood, but would have liked to. I kept missing episodes as they were shown and same goes for Bleach. Same goes for Eureka 7, except I kept up with it for about 20-24 episodes.

Samurai Champloo is a really good series and I really enjoyed watching it. I would not mind watching it again. While talking about shows with samurai in them, has anyone watched Afro Samurai? A friend of mine bought it and said it was pretty good. So I was wanting to see what some other people thought about it.

My one show that I make sure I catch every week, outside of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, is Naruto. I have been watching it almost religiously for the past couple of months. Great stuff! 👍

Bah, they kinda killed it on Cartoon Network... I remember first watching way back in December of 2003... LONG LONG ago. I stopped watching after the Hokage battle and such... kinda got drug out then.

I remembered when me and my brother watched all of the episodes of Naruto in 2 weeks:eek:

I also highly recommend watching Samurai Champloo:tup:.

I've enjoyed everything I've seen in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Both have filler episodes but in the end, the quality is great.
I suggest catching up with Naruto's episodes if you stopped after the Hokage fight... Eventually you see fights with every character (all are good) and you even get to see a serious Naruto v Sasuke fight that totally rocked. Speaking of Rocks... Even Rock Lee gets into a bunch of awesome fights (eventually :spoiler: he picks up the drunken boxing technique!).

Bottom line:
Both of the Naruto series are worth watching if you have the time. I'm still looking forward to seeing everything in Naruto I haven't seen and I can't wait to see where Shippuden goes (probably ending with an Itachi Sasuke battle! ).

To me Naruto is okay, nothing to go crazy about, but really good. One thing that gets on my nerves are AMV's especially Naruto AMV's. There are some that I liked (12 to be exact, but they were more audio clips than actual music), but most of them suck and are annoying.

Um, yeah... AMVs are something I care not to even comment on when I'm looking at whether or not an anime is good. That said, I agree- Naruto is nothing to go crazy over, but then again, no anime is!!! :sly:
Of course, I do enjoy the fights from Naruto. Even the stuff from early on like Lee vs Gaara was great. 👍

Ah My goddess is about some guy accidentally calling a "goddess "hotline and one day an class A angel appears at his door steps to grant one wish instead of the food that he wanted. Though he wanted food but I think he never granted that wish or was it to be with her forever. The racing part is that he is a Motorcyclist and they make a great duo.

I think only 3 Eps are out and I forgot About Ex -Driver as a racing/ Anime. It has the Lotus Europa, Lancia Stratos, Subaru Impreza, A Ducati Bike, Caterham Super 7 and other common imports.

On the subject of cars in anime...
I'd have to say Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex did an awesome job with the cars. True, there wasn't any racing and the focus of the anime couldn't be further from cars. None the less, the way the cars were depicted in that series was awesome. 👍

I like how they look but only certain models. It does give off the modern/futuristic look to it though.

Well, yes, but Lee vs Kimimaro was great too. (You can;t spoil it for me, I've read all the manga upto date). Not sure if you follow the manga, but have they introduced Sai yet into the anime?

It just feels around the Hokage fight they really started to drag things out, and thats when I stop caring about the anime. Bleach has kinda gone the same way, dragging things out way too much at times. DBZ is of course the classic example of this though.

Funny series if you don't mind lots of fake yaoish stuff is Ouran Host Club. Everyone I know thats watched it has enjoyed it... but not sure if its been picked up for US markets yet, though I know the manga has. But the manga's artstyle is kinda... well, meh? More content though, which is nice.

And Death Note is/was just awesome, though Anime varied too much from manga... and well, they go a bit far with the drama when he is writing...
