Especially when you have Mamoru Miyano voicing him. If I knew Japanese fluently, I'd be able to appreciate and criticique his voice acting better.

I need new anime, well, let me rephrase that: I need new anime in addition to the over eleventy anime I've been watching for the past few months.

So far I've got the following:

Guilty Crown
Steins;Gate (technically this shouldn't be here as it's one of the anime mentioned above)
Darker Than Black
Whatever Rita is in (her outfit intrigues me)
And some others I can't remember that were mentioned/recommended to me a while back.

Recommend stuff!

Emotion is the same in all languages, so you don't need to be fluent in order to appreciate his voice acting. Well I can see how you'd be missing out on it a bit, only reading subs and all. Mamoru Miyano is awesome.

I was looking at some reviews for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and.. some people really had a problem with the pacing? Really? It certainly didn't beat around the bush, but to say it was rushed is insulting.

Some people thought the story of the original was better, okay. I can see that. I just felt that Brotherhood had more of a grand scheme to it than its predecessor.

By pacing, were they talking about mainly the beginning where they rushed through events already covered in the first series?

Also agreed on the grander scheme, what the main villian tried to do in the original series is pretty lame compared to the second series. (Spoilers from both adaptions.)

I mean she did all that work to create just ONE Philosopher's Stone. In Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, they get created all the time. Father tried to obtain God, how he did it, and how long it took him to do it was really impressive. It was also quite the battle to thwart him, the original series had a lame battle compared to it.

Accents can affect things. If you had the Japanese voice actors do the dubbing (Something many people who hate dubs unsurprisingly suggest. Though I think this is how Animax dubs-which many people hate-are done.) for Steins;Gate, you possibly would cringe maybe.

Emotion can't be detected as easily if you don't know the language fluently. Sure you can tell if a Japanese guy is angry, but not as easily as a native speaker. I wonder if I watched anime raw, I could tell all the emotions before watching the subbed version which can help.

I mean, for example lots of America fans could love the Japanese voice acting in a certain anime, but what if most of the native speakers (The Japanese people.) thought the voice acting was absolutely terrible? They're able to tell as they know the language real well since it's their native language.

If you saw the original series, you would know that in the beginning, they rush through stuff you already saw in the original series. They just flat out rushed, and even completely skipped some things that would be later briefly mentioned such as the stuff with Yoki and the coal mines.

The way people express emotion might be basically universal, but there are undoubtedly some subtleties that are language-specific. And thus while you might be able to get the general emotion a foreign actor is expressing, I think you get the best effect from an actor using a language you actually know. Especially when it comes to voice acting.

I would hate it if they used the Japanese VA's to dub... seriously, that would be horrible. And emotion is mostly conveyed through tone of voice, not just words. Of course the Japanese have a greater understanding, but they only win when it comes to diction.

I know if I watched a show raw I could understand the emotions they're conveying... I just wouldn't know what they're actually saying.

Oh, absolutely. Just because I prefer english dubs doesn't mean I won't rewatch it in Japanese to see the differences. Nor does it mean that if the English dub is just god-awful, I won't switch to Japanese my first time watching it.

Try understanding if a Dutch guy is angry or sad. Kinda hard to tell when it comes to Dutch, and I've heard quite a bit of Dutch since I was in the Netherlands a few years ago. Not to mention, it's part of my heritage since my dad's side of the family is Dutch.

Brotherhood certainly is fast paced but rushed? Not really. It never felt like I was missing anything. Besides, I'm glad it quickly get's rid of what I've already seen in the original series

Right now (epi 24) the pace is the way I like. It won't linger, there's always something new to look forward to in the next episode. Exactly how it should be.
