It's all opinion which Blaze album is better. Most say X Factor, people like me disagree and say Virtual XI. But to me X Factor was sort of empty sounding, they couldn't write to another voice because they're used to writing for Bruce. And this was the point where they started needing a third guitar. Because with three guitars (live and with Bruce) the songs on these albums are easily some of Maiden's best. But that's just my own opinion.

Had a proper listen to Brave New World today after a few months of listening to their other material, still just as good. :D

Iron Maiden Studio Albums - 15

Bruce Dickinson - 11
Number Of The Beast, Piece Of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, No Prayer For The Dying, Fear Of The Dark, Brave New World, Dance Of Death, A Matter Of Life And Death, The Final Frontier

Paul Di'Anno - 2
Iron Maiden, Killers

Blayze Bayley - 2
The X Factor, Virtual XI

---

I'd say it's difficult to accurately judge the other two when they are not as recognised as Bruce Dickinson nor were they as prolific while with the band. That said, I've got both Di'Anno albums and there are certainly some classic tracks there. I had Running Free pumping out of my speakers quite a lot yesterday. His era's music certainly had an element of punk to it. I haven't really heard much Bayley stuff so I will reserve judgement on that, but the things that Bruce has done have been superb. His vocals at times are unbridled ecstacy. And that's from a man who didn't receive vocal training. And considerng he is the more well known singer with 11 albums to his credit plus solo work, I think it would be hard to really compare Bayley or Di'Anno accurately because you'll always be thinking "Yeah.. but NOTB-SSOASS was a quality era". Which is unfortunate, because I think Di'Anno did do some good songs, to his credit.

^Yes, Bruce never had training, that's because he's a natural. The best vocalists generally are. Rob Halford, Geoff Tate was mostly self trained. James LaBrie was a taught singer. You notice the most recognizable are a natural singer. I don't know about Di'Anno or Bayley but they weren't top notch.

I own all the 80s albums + Fear of the Dark and The Final Frontier.

My favorite is Piece of Mind, although that's probably because it's the first one I heard.
My favorite song is To Tame A Land although Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Trooper, and Where the Wild Wind Blows are very close behind.

Edit: Just listened to the interview with Blaze Bayley. It was a great interview, but why did you end it with Katy Perry

The interview is up! :D

It wasn't too bad. Sometimes you went on but it's mostly excellent. 👍 I liked that you asked about his Maiden audition. 👍 At two points you dragged on but then the rest was great. :D Though I was frightened when Katy Perry started. :scared:

Yeah, we play some crap music...

Was it a request or did the Station MAKE you play it?

Well all the music is scheduled to play at a certain time, I am allowed to change songs but only if they fall under a certain category, here's the categories.

A: Top 20 Chart Song - Unable to change
B: New Song Released by Artist, will probably reach the A Category soon. - Unable to change
C: Song from an artist released, that is still considered playable. - Changeable
T: Song from the early naughties. - Changeable
50-99: Representing the year the song was released. - Changeable

I'm at work at the moment so I'll have a listen later.

Please tell me you've snuck in some metal on the radio before now. Even something smooth like the Satch or Steve Vai. Would be awesome educating other people's music taste via the radio.

Of course I have, I used to play Maiden nearly every week, but then my boss told me to stop. :grumpy:

Punch him.

Nah, that's cool though. Why did they object? One of those ridiculous "They're satanic, don't play them" arguments?

No, one of those "They're too heavy for 7pm in the evening" arguments..

This country...

I work in a school and I proudly wear my Number Of The Beast or Fear Of The Dark T-shirts as often as I can!

No-one has objected so far, but some of the children do wonder who the band is...

As do I, every opportunity I get, I wear my Maiden shirts. Although I could do with a new one, I have their Trooper T-Shirt with The Final Frontier World Tour's Dates on the back, it's showing it's age already though. :ouch:

 What!? Do they think of Maiden as pure evil!!! Because whenever I've heard Maiden on the radio here it's been during the day. Only Screamo and Death metal can't be played until 9 PM onwards Sunday nights.

Well their only UK #1 single is Bring Your Daughter..., and they performed it on TOTP.

But Radio 1 refused to play it on their chart show. So misunderstood.

Largely because the Americans thought they were Satanists. 👎

I don't think they are Satanic...I'm an American lol. They think Maiden is heavy??? Ha. Go listen to Metal Church or Metallica. Yeah. Ok.

Back when The Number of the Best came out in US. religious groups went mental with all of that. Burning copies and things. Funny thing was they had to purchase the album to burn it... So Maiden got their share anyway. ;)

I'm guessing that's what the BBC thought too. But religion is not as big in the UK so maybe it was the suggestive title of slaughtering women that ticked them off. Still... awesome song!

In some cases it gave the wrong message. Maiden didn't like being called Satanists, because they're not. I don't think Maiden would have liked the publicity either, because from what I've noticed they're not really hardcore "LOOK AT ME ON THE COVER" people, hence why Eddie was created. :p They liked the musical success the album has though. ;)

Indeed. What is everyone's favourite cover art? Mine is A Matter of Life and Death, really love the war theme, plus the album isn't bad either. :p

This is my favourite. I have this and Fear Of The Dark as T-shirts.

This is also full of win.

@Skython, yeah it sucks that they were burned. Favorite cover arts? No particular order:

Fear of the Dark
Somewhere in Time
Number of the Beast (Original)
No Prayer for the Dying (Original)

Least Favorite:

The Final Frontier, seriously, they ruined Eddie.

I agree. It's just... a bit too much.

And I'll be honest, I prefer the remastered cover.
