I can honestly swear I'm the only person who doesn't love The Alchemist. :odd: I think it's a great song, but the rest of the album outshines it. Different World has a great chorus. So does The Prisoner.

My list of my favorite Maiden songs (some of them I like live more because they are played faster than the album version):

Sanctuary

Watching Maiden at Donington 2007 at the moment, it's simply amazing! :)

Bought 5 albums today, 2 were Maiden; Brave New World and The Final Frontier.

Impressed. It's prog but good prog, that's what's so great about them.

Yeah they've totally converted from Heavy Metal to Prog. Listen to Powerslave then change to the Final Frontier, and tell me there isn't a difference.

That or from Powerslave to Seventh Son..

That's the same with any band that span decades; ELO and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers being other bands I like who changed direction somewhat.

There's a clear difference and I do prefer the more traditional 80s sound, but you have to give them credit for maintaining their success and acclaim over the years.

I'm suprised there have been no comments about the Blaze Bayley Era yet...

Well, I did say I can't really appreciate his singing, which detracts from my enjoyment of the music. That's just the way it is for me.

What do you guys reckon?

I like The X-Factor, Virtual XI isn't that great to be honest..

The weakest stuff I've heard is probably No Prayer For The Dying. There's three or four good tracks on it and I don't mean that the album is bad, it's just not as good as their other stuff.

Mustn't forget, it's got their only UK #1 on it.

Listening to some of Bruce's solo stuff right now, I like it, but I prefer Maiden..

That or from Powerslave to Seventh Son..

Somewhere in Time would be the better option, more drastic, faster.

@ Mazda, I love that album, I love the raspiness of Fear and No Prayer. Might be weak but I just like that sound lol.

@ Tom, yeah his solo stuff is good but Maiden is better.

I have Iron Maidens "Iron Maiden" on cassette.

FF is a good album, things have slowed down I've noticed.

Notice the connection between Bruce's Solo albums and Maiden. And how when Bruce came back they went a lot more progressive. Bruce left due to the direction the band was going. He didn't want to wreck his voice singing songs from FOTD or NPFTD. As they were hard on his voice. And I can understand why. His voice has always had a little of a grit that is put in sometimes, but to do it constantly a voice like Bruce's couldn't handle. So he left. Bruce and Adrian came back probably through agreement to going a little more Prog. Because Adrian does seem to be quite into the Prog side. Those two have had the biggest effect in Maiden in recent years, because now most of the time Steve just writes lyrics and leaves music to the others. (there are exceptions of course) But the driving force for their newer direction is with Bruce and Adrian. However, that's just my opinion.

Just look at TFF, as usual Steve is involved with every song, but Adrian is too (except WTWWB and The Alchemist) Bruce is in most of them too. Though Dave is absent completely, and Janick helped out in one or two.

Fear is a great album. The trilogy of Wasting Love, The Fugitive and Chains Of Misery is epic.

I do like NPFTD, Tailgunner, Hooks In You, Assasin and Bring Your Daughter... are testament to that. It was just a case of if I had to choose a least favourite.

Awesome, got 6 new Maiden albums from my Uncle for Christmas. :D

Fear of the Dark
No Prayer For The Dying
X-Factor
Virtual XI
Somewhere In Time
Dance of Death

I plan to buy Killers and A Matter Of Life and Death and then I'll have all their studio albums plus a few live ones. 👍

Somewhere in Time has my vote for the best albums out of those, hands down, with Fear second, Dance of Death third and No Prayer 3rd.

I'm loving Somewhere in Time, DOD, NPFTD, FOTD and X-Factor. I'm not so sure about Virtual XI, however..

oh my god, cant believe i haven't noticed this thread before, anyway i have listed all the studio albums below in order of my favorite;
Powerslave
Fear of the Dark
The Final Frontier
Brave New World
Number of the Beast
Piece of Mind
Dance of Death
7th son of a 7th son
Somewhere in time
Matter of life and death
Iron Maiden
No Prayer for the dying
Killers
The X factor
Virtual XI

Virtual XI was like Metallica's St. Anger only for Maiden...Every band has a bad album.

7th son of a 7th son

My mate, a massive Iron Maiden fan, is actually the 7th son of his father who is the 7th son of his father, epic stuff!!!!

So every Iron Maiden album then?

Why does every one rate Virtual XI so low. I reckon it's a good album, better than X Factor. X Factor sounded rather empty. Listen to Judgement of Heaven, there is a good song, but it still doesn't have the depth or power Maiden needs. I feel X Factor drags on and on, but Virtual XI doesn't.

Virtual XI was like Metallica's St. Anger only for Maiden...Every band has a bad album.

Then how come I like Virtual XI but dislike St/ Anger?

Just had a listen to Virtual XI and it's not as bad as I thought.

And I bring even more good news, in case you don't know I do radio presenting in my free time and I'm currently in advanced negotiations with Blaze Bayley's manager about an interview with Blaze. 👍

What radio station is this? Is it on the net? Because I doubt I can get it over here.

Please excuse the dodgy picture of me, but it's incredibly old...

EDIT: I've managed to secure the interview with Blaze for this Friday between 6 and 8pm. Tune in! :D
