The Grind is Getting Me Down Man

I would whole hartedly agree that there should be points for online play. Wouldn't even need to be many points. But that way online give a reward, instead of being a break from the grind.

It would also help with clean driving online. Right now people who play bumper cars don't care about winning, they just want to play bumper cars. But give a reward to finishing in the top 50% of the field and there's motivation. Turn on strict rules and it will clean up the online play.

So for the normal race events, if you play multiple times you still get the money AND the cars right? Or just the money?

In A Spec i believe you can re do the events for money over and over. Not sure how that goes for B Spec as ive hardly touched that.

The Special Events are a one time deal i believe. If im wrong im sure someone will come along and correct me :)

I think the money is given, but not sure about cars. I think in GT4 you can "clear" your finished event and when you re-finish it you re-win the money AND cars.

I remember winning the CLK-GTR in GT4 and keep selling it for the 750K it brings...
 
Ok let me just ask something, why you're buying a racing game if you dont like to race ?

I dont get it ? I understand the first challenge are too easy and not fun, but if you take some of the extreme race, you can have lots of fun and pretty close racing. If your car is too fast, tune your car down to have more fun, if you like to run like hell and do Time Attack, try to get ahead at start and run race as they were time Attack lap. I dunno, there's plenty of way to get money in GT5. You understand that racing is a very repetitive sports right ? You can take 90% of the time the same racetrack year after year, and they dont have neither 100 racetrack to choose.
It's usually 6 to 20 track per year with 1-3 change each year.

I'm just frustrated of the no credit online stuff once they fix that it's gonna be awesome.

After reaching about level 21. It becomes a real grind-fest.

This is where I'm at. I've completed every race I can do at my level, except NASCAR. After I've finished the NASCAR series all that'll be left is special events and golding license tests to try and nudge me to level 22.

This could've all been avoided if PD kept license tests as an integral part of the game. Now it's just an optional thing. XP for B-Spec is fine, but A-Spec should've kept the old license requirements.

It's a shame that we don't have damage. Damage, is your car getting damaged. It's not twisted bumpers, and it certainly is not useless credit expenditure.

You can and should have it both ways. There is no excuse for not pleasing multiple parties when what they want does not conflict. Make GT mode, online, and arcade all separate from each other.

I was not commentating on the quality of the damage system, only that there is a system in place for it to be costly in terms of credits, which it is. If at some point we do receive actual damage in the game, the things we pay money for now, will become relevant.

Before I didn't have to respect high value cars, they were just a means to an end. Now, high value cars feel to me like they are actually high value - there is worth in having them, because of the difficulty in acquiring them in the first place.
 
So when we get to level 20+ (im at 14 right now) do the races run out and we have to grind until some more gets unlocked?.

Maybe B Spec will help that out some??. I hate to use that, but if the XP and credits go towards the A Spec totals then i guess i will be forced to do that.

There are huge leveling points in special events, and money. I spent my first night with the game in special events and came out level 8 with $400,000.

I don't understand why you need an artificial reason for the cars to have value. The difficulty in acquiring them just makes getting them more annoying. I see no value in it at all. However, if I happened to start will all cars unlocked, you could still attempt to have your fun by playing through GT mode until it gave you the car.

Likewise, even if we get damage so realistic that NASA buys the GT5 physics code, paying for damage will remain nothing but a worthless detraction from the game. The point of damage is damage, not credit wasting. IMO.
 
I understand this is a racing game and the whole point is to race cars. What I don't understand is why I can't buy, race and tune this cars I want to without needless grinding for credits in one event. Doing the supercar race at Daytona is super boring but I need to keep doing it so I can buy the cars I want in order to do races I enjoy. It's almost like I'm punished for buying and tuning low end cars that I like.

GT4 was really good in how it delivered credits, I don't get why they changed it.

That's about the size of it although B-spec races don't count towards A-Spec and after just having to repeat a level 10 B-spec race to get to level 11 and unlock more professional B-spec races I have a feeling that will also be a grind.
 
This thread opened my eyes as to how many masochist gamers there are out there.

Anyone remember gt3 where you win good prize cars, only had to grind a small amount to get the car you needed for the next race, had to have skill to advance to the next races (licenses) and was just generally a game about skill and not about time put in? This is the GT I know and love.

Right now I'm lvl 21, have to race a frickin' vette against le mans cars to win a le mans car and then after that have to grind for hours on end until I can race the next two races. It's dumb and not fun.

I'm still on my first license since I have no incentive to get anyothers other than the minimal xp you get, xp in a racing simulator? REALLY?!
 
GT5 is one huge grind, really. Grinding levels to do events is just a little... You know, yuk. And you'll reach the point where you'll have no other choice but to grind.
Well, unless, of course, you got Gold on all/most of the license tests/special events. Which is kinda hard with just a DS3, for example.

What's bothering me more, though, is the small amount of events. Not because I have to redo some of them, but because of the usage you can get from a given car. If I want to drive car X on track Y, chances are that I'm either not going to be able to, or that the car's going to be severly under/overpowered.

Give me custom events (pick the cars and the track) that give XPand CR, or just add XP and CR to the One-Make-Races and I'll be finde.
Personally, I don't even mind grinding that much. I actually enjoy a good grind at times. Especially if said grind revolves around running a bazillion laps around the Nordschleife (which I'm going to do anyway).

However, GT5 doesn't feel like a good grind...

I thought damage was to prevent people from driving like idiots. Like in forza when someone smashed into the back of your car they could destroy there engine so people wouldn't do it if full damage is on. I still cant believe i got rid of forza 3 for this. And leveling up does get annoying because I have to like no money to buy cars i want and buy cars for races.

Not really, GT4 was about re winning and selling prize cars. Its not the same this time around. Its not very well designed either. I've been needing a competing car for the Japan 70's races for a long time. GT mode looks like it was put together in 1 month...... Not enough races but at least when you do re do a race to competition changed.
 
They need to hurry up with that online matchmaking patch because it will make the grind more tolerable by gaining money and xp from online races, because you would not get bored doing the same races over and over again in single player to get $$ and XP.

There is kick feature online. And out of the 1536784993827268286058632682 members of GTP, I'm sure you can find at least 16 who drive clean. All I want from damage is realism and challenge. There are better ways to control poor drivers.

Winning and selling prize cars was fine because at least you got a decent amount of credits for beating a race series. If I could rewin prize cars in GT5 I'd be perfectly fine. Grinding for XP wouldn't really concern me either since I could just buy and race whatever car I wanted.

Look, grinding is the act of doing the same thing over and over again to achieve something in a game, be it an item, level or money. GT5 certainly IS a grind.


I don't think anyone would be bothered by GT5 if it fit in the same canon as other GT games, but no other GT game has grinding like this. None of us expected GT5 to be a jrpg race simulator, why? Because it's outside of PDs perogative and it makes no frickin' sense to implement such a contrived system in a racing simulator.

Playing any game isnt always about "enjoyment". It's about the experience and the reward, and sometimes you have to put up with unenjoyably tasks to achieve that reward.

Only time I enjoyed Demon's Souls was after beating a world, most worlds were very hard at first and there was little enjoyment in dieing 40 times on the first level of a game. Mega Man is not enjoyable while playing, its the reward that makes it worth it.

To be honest, none of that makes any sense to me. Demon's Souls was decent the first time through because of the challenge. But after that it becomes very repetitive like GT offline, and the only reason to keep it became online play vs other players. Why is online fun? Because you can be killed by those other players, and they aren't bots doing the same thing over and over.

DS has a similar problem to GT, there is a lot to get and it's tied up in the less exciting part of the game (though it's somewhat alleviated by coop play). Even worse, DS is also a locked save, so even if I tried to play "fair" I wouldn't have gotten anywhere. My PS3 died in the middle of that very game in August.

I kind of went off on a tangent immediately haha. But in short, if I game isn't enjoyable, there is no point to it. You shouldn't cringe at challenges. You should enjoy them. I cringe at AI. I enjoy struggling to avoid being lapped online by virtual Shcumachers.

I forgot to add having to do something to pass one day so the used car lot can update gets annoying. This wasn't even needed in GT4. You could get 1mil cr in less than an hour from the first boot up. Not so much in GT5. Money doesn't matter when the car you want is lvl locked or just unavailable in the used lot Grr.. If its not needing a LVL you need a unavailable car or you need cash or all of the above.....

I ended up buying an Isuzu Billet and had to tuned it up so i wouldn't get blown away in the straights too bad by the Cosmo. 60's-70's race is done but now my B-spec places 4th or worse with the weak Isuzu....

What planet are you from where you cannot enjoy a game, but have some aggravations with it? Having a small amount of events compared to other recers and Gt games, to the point where you take hours and hours just to level up and be able to do a new race, is moronic design, this is not a MMO. Again, other GT's had more events, a lot more. The game is great, but some of the design is bizarre and not well thought out.

I guess I'll have to disagree on this... I actually find games that are very challenging to be a lot of fun. I love a challenge, and not just for the feeling of achieving something when I finally beat it. I just love being challenged, that's all.

However, grinding (like in GT5) isn't challenging, not at all.
That's why I can't understand the "Grinding is tough, us veteran video gamers like it tough, if you don't like the grind, you're a newb!"-attitude.

MegaMan (and games like it) are a completely different animal...
That said, you just reminded me of how awesome those games are. Guess I'll have to dig them up again, sometime soon 👍

Demons Souls is not that hard................................. it requires you to pay close attention to the combat system, every swing, count swing, movement, and environment. it punished mistakes, great game. Also had some of the best weapon upgrade system and level design I have seen.

grinding is not challenge, in fact, its the opposite, playing races you already easily get gold in is not challenge, its boring.
 
Well we are all just bitching about this games leveling system, myself included. Maybe we should be productive and think of things that make redoing races over and over again fun. Lately, when I'm really ahead of the AI, I'll hit my ebrake in a corner and do a 360 and then take off, do it over and over again until the AI catches up. Kind of entertaining...not really tho.
