The gt 5 ces sound!!!

Even for a guy who's defended Gran Turismo on various fronts, there's no defense of the sound. But if you listen to the sounds of the CES videos (albeit not very good from the recording), come on now... how can you not love those sounds? Polyphony Digital may have finally gotten it right on the sound front. Maybe not Forza quality, but leaps and bounds improvement.

Anyone saying the Gallardo does not sound quite like real-life is correct. It was apparent as soon as I heard it in the video. But overall, the sound quality has improved since GT4. Because the cock-pit is such an important aspect of GT5, you know they had gone to new lengths to mimic engine sounds whilst in the cockpit. But again, the Gallardo can use some work, and I assume any other Lamborghini models might too.

About the engine sound for the Gallardo....
I compared it to the real thing, and I can hear the similarities but the core sound just isn't there. That has been a big problem in the GT series. The engine sounds for the cars are always too high pitched and bland. With a car like the gallardo, it should have a low beast-like sound. Forza has been able to have the almost exact sound for it's cars as their real life counterparts. Why can't gran turismo?
On a side note, the cars for WRC sound good.

No, lambos have a slight low rumble at low RPM and it's banshee like from there. Problem with the GT sound is that the chain like whine up top is too pronounced over the actual engine note.

Do you guys think the Gallardo sounds true to life?
No.
Do I care? It's a game, not a real Gallardo... Honestly, as already said, people will never be happy. They moan at the sounds, then they hear some better sounds, and they pick fault in the recording method etc.
Well in that case, PD should just make all the SuperGT cars sound like 4-cylinders out of eco-cars & we should be happy because it's just a game.
Both GT5 and Forza sounds of Gallardo are totally wrong. The real car is just singing while those sounds are ugly and dead. They recreated very well sound of M5 E60 in GT4 but struggling for years in delivering decent sound for Viper. In fact, sound from all those new videos is still deep in the land of vacuum cleaners.
Forza's is near dead on. However, Forza only has the 5.0 Gallardo & GT (to our knowledge) has the 5.2.

Both engines have distinctive pitches & tones with the LP560-4's engine not sounding as high pitched as the 5.0, but more throaty & open. Even from the "crappy" video quality, I can still pick out the missing pitches the 5.2 produces at those high RPMs, sounds that tell me the car needs a lot touching up.

I watched some LP560-4 in car videos on youtube then watched the CES demo in car footage again and it seems GT has the tone correct but it's missing the 'power'/'bass' of the real cars sound.

Which you will probably get with a better sound system, sitting in your living room. I'm playing Prologue at this very minute driving the Mines R34, and it's music to my ears. I'll probably be spending more time driving this car in the full game than any of the Lambo's, cause they're just not my cup of tea. So I could really care less how they sound.

I don't really care if the sound of each car is true-to-life to its counterpart.
All I want from the sound is:
1) If the specific car/brand has known characteristics sounds (e.g. Ferrari engine & gear box) then the game need to make be believe this is the car - But it's don't have to be exact....
2) Be align with the type of car (e.g. a sporty engine sound doesn't fit driving in Suzuki Swift or Ford Model-T)
3) To be strong & crisp
4) When I'm driving fast - I want to hear it from the engine,
5) Make be believe that the speed shown on the display is aligned with the sound I hear

Guess I'm the only one that didn't mind the sounds in Prologue. Sure a few cars needed some help, but most of them were close enough for me. The Mustang, Z06, 350Z, Skylines, Ferrari's, etc. all sounded great IMO.

I agree, I was more than happy with the sounds in Prologue, maybe it has to do with what you are listening to it on? I played the Time Trial at my wifes house on a standard HD telly, no fancy sound setup and it sounded average, while in my cockpit it shakes my ass, literraly !

I honestly can't believe the amount of moaning going on in here about a couple of cars out of 1000 ! Added to that, you guy's haven't even heard a decent line feed recording of those sounds, just a crappy off screen recording, and already you are moaning ! WTF, if you don't like the sounds so much, why don't you just save your money, don't buy GT5, and buy a real Lamborghini, and give us some peace?

You guy's must be a real joy to live with !

Ah, the GT Elites. Some of us aren't that happy with some of the things we see & you guys come in telling us to go home & buy something else then.

Sorry we are not easily satisfied as you. After 5 years of development, some of us would like to see if that time was being well spent in other departments than just the graphics & car modeling.

We are all guilty of saying "don't buy it if you don't like it" at times, but extending that with, "if you want the sound of a real Lamborghini, go and buy a real Lamborghini", says a lot about your ability to deal with reasoning in Forums. It's the weakest form of argument.

I can't afford one. If your willing to let me borrow yours you can borrow my dirt 2.
Thanks.

Long time forum watcher. First time poster. I am amazed at how emotional some of the people get on these forums about such trivial things. However I am glad they do, as it makes for a good laugh and an interesting read. Cheers!

p.s. Thought i might stir the pot a little with this! Even if it is a GT3 version, the motors are almost identical to those of the road going version. Along with some footage of a track that should have no questions of its place in any racing game. Enjoy!

Hard to say what's going on with the sound. In the replay with the F1 it definitely sounded like a grunt from the SLS. But the quality was terrible. It was hard to distinguish anything other than a bunch of loud noises. The Lambo didn't sound anything like it should though, so I don't know. Guess I'll have to wait for better reference videos from GT5 to make an opinion overall.

Not only are you missing the point, as The Interceptor pointed out, i also invite you to come to Bonn, to listen to my sound system. Its not sorround, but "good enough" to judge something like the quality of engine sounds in-game. I also dont care if you are satisfied with it, im not (although, the Academy demo is acceptable). I am a car enthusiast and engine sounds are very important for me.

Exactly!

It boils down to this: whether one likes the sounds in the game or not is a matter of individual opinion. But that doesn't even play a role in this discussion.

The fact of the matter is that people were getting excited about a new quality of sounds that does not really exist, because those sounds were recorded quite badly. One would expect that to either play no role or to make the cars sound worse. In this case, it made them sound much rougher and more lively and therefore better, but they simply sounded that way because of distortion. Thus, I pointed out that people should take that knowledge into account.

Let's make the same example with visuals. Imagine someone takes pictures off the screen at CES, and the game happens to look much more colorful on those pictures than it actually does. Then, someone opens a thread saying that PD has finally turned up the colors in the game, and that it looks much better now. Naturally, someone would come along and point out that the colors in the pictures only appear as vivid because of how they were made, and that the actual game does not look like that. Would you, No46_TheDoctor, call that person a "moaner" as well and advise him not to buy the game?

The thing I like, although you can't really tell the quality of the sound because of recording, the different cars do seem to have much more distinctive engine sounds than before as they pass the camera in the replays.

I've always been satisfied with the sounds of GT5, but if they have any improvements I'm more than happy to take them :D

And that's all this is. People's opinions being thrown around, and we can do this all day. Point is, we can't do anything about the sounds to make them better (I think they are fine) so why don't we just end the discussion?

👎

So you're saying that something that can't be changed (at least by us) shouldn't be discussed?
I thought it was very important that sony and PD read this forum and we should let them know what we think.

That's the general consensus on anything Gran Turismo. If it's ragged on for any reason whatsoever, you'd better expect someone is going to come and defend it.

Immediately.

Discussion is important. Many of us now know we are not alone who know about sound poorness of GT. There are still fanboys and undemanding players satisfied even with genuine kitchen blender sound for all cars. But that's not convincing any real car enthusiast that sounds are any better. PD obviously don't know even after ten years of work how to do engine sounds a little bit real, grunty and really enjoyable and still trying to use that bad recording and desperate three sample idle-2000-4000rpm way which is hopeless and dead. They even don't mind that there are much worse games on the market which got the sounds right. And that's really sad story. Whole sound team of GT is candidate to complete change for any competent sound engineers and sound engine programmers.

indeed, need for speed undercover has one best sounds of any game but the rest of the game is crap...

So I think we players of GT deserve at least equally good sound like NFS Undercover. Please, PD. :indiff:

Sure. I mean, what's the point right now? The game is pretty much finished and it's way too late for them to change anything. Unless you don't care that the game get's hit with it's first delay?

I say we just leave it be. Let them finally release the damn game and enjoy it for what it is.

I'm sorry but they won't listen to what you think of low quality internet videos of a game that's not even released. That isn't how it works.
