One thing for shure, future FF's will not be like the ones from the past, and I don't mean like graphics ect.

Look FFXII for example-different battle system,re-usage of Ivalice, world from FF Tactics/Tactics advance(first ever re-usage),the there are some of the well known people from development team retiring/going to different projects.......

I just hope that no matter how much future FF's change, that they will remain to have that something that we all FF fans like about FF.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Final Fantasy will always be Final Fantasy aslong as they keep on using the same name for items and spells. I find it funny how they still use the Fire, Fira, Firaga and such. Even all those usable items havent changed either.

Spell & job will be always there in a different way.

I'm pretty sure that the Black Mage & White Mage & the famous warrior will be always there for sure.

& for sure, There will be always a love story about 2 person in the game...

And there would be a Cid, Biggs and Wedge.

Mr Deap
There wasn't in the first Final Fantasy.

In FFXI, I'm not sure.. I think there isn't a Biggs & Wedge there too. :)
I remember one of my friends telling me that in FFXI that they were guards or something. I haven't played it so I can't really be sure.

I don't remember seeing them, if never I find them in the game, I'll post it.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I used to play FFXI on the fairy server and my guild did say Cid is in the game. I never saw the Cid in the game, but I believe them and other people. No one ever mentioned the name Biggs and Wedge though. :O

I never understood what is so special about the cid wedge and biggs names...

Biggs and Wedge are characters in Star Wars Ep IV which I'm sure everyone knows. As for Cid I'm uncertain of the relevance. Maybe they like to re-use certain names!?
Also I always find it interesting to find the meaning behind the names of monsters and Summons in FF games. Someone at SquareEnix must have a big dictionary on mythology and religion.
Take "Ahriman"-

I found out that it comes from Zoroastrianism -
In ancient Persian religion (Zoroastrianism), Ahriman (aka Arimanius or Angra Mainya) stood high in the ranks of the enemies who opposed Ahura Mazda (aka Ohrmazd or Oromasdes). Ahriman is thought to be the first personification of "the Devil" because Zoroastrians believed in a completely dualistic form of religion.
I find all this fascinating!

Yeah, i'm also quite facinated by all the mythological references in the FF games.
It's amazing how much research SE did for their games. 👍

Most Japanese manga or anything from animation have an high reference on whatever it is.

Don't refer the Final Fantasy as extraordinary in that point. Cause the other RPG's as well have those.

What really make Final Fantasy are the job party(Red Mage, White Mage, Thief, Black Mage, Fighter(Known as warrior too)& Monk). I think that's all. :sly:

:( Why can't I save FFIX on my PS2 memory card??

I checked and I have tonnes of room, and I even have an FF7 game save on my PS2 memory card... (so I don't see how it won't let me save FF9... :indiff: )

You have to use a PS1 memory card. The OS of the PSX that the FFIX cd-rom doesn't support the PS2 memory card.

OK, ta 👍.... will have to ask my sister to stick my PSOne memory card in the post then...

I've just had a nice session on FF6, nice to get back in touch with some of the older games.

I still have to beat FF5, but the game just feels like it's full of holes, but i love the job system in it.

I plan on finishing 8, then going back and beating 7 (never beat it), then 9, then possibly 10. When 12 comes out, i'm all over it.

FF6 have a decent difficulty until you learn the famous(vanish->death or vanish->X-Zone) trick to beat almost every boss & monster in 2 move, lol. The game is easy & doesn't take long if you cheat. The worst thing is that they didn't remove that bug on the PSX version. 👎

Though, Anthology, Chronicle really worth the buy even if the graphic look exactly the same as the old one in the SNES. On the PS2 you can play those on Component connection along with new remade text(at least they corrected shadow to "him" instead of "her" in the text that's in the part where you see shadow instead of Realm).

I'll just pretend i didn't read that.

I'm playing a game called Star ocean at the moment, it seems to be very long, I'm getting into it, though FF VII is currently still my fave RPG, though I haven't played V or VI which some people argue are better,

Star ocean has the best battles I've seen in an RPG, the story seems to be a bit all over at times thuogh, I'm currentlynot too sure what the main thread of the games story is, I'm on the second planet (third actually, but I'm not counting the one you start on) and theres the odd mention of a bigger picture here and there but I've spent so long doing these missions for the people on different planets in between them I wonder how strong the main plot is. Overal it's a good game but I'd like it to give me more of an idea what it's about or going to fool me into thinking it's about a bit quicker than it has done so far.

live4speed

I also tried the Ps2 Star Ocean. I got into it for a while, but after a few planets I just didn't like the game anymore, it was pretty but the characters just annoyed me and I kind of felt like I was watching a show on cartoon network. Ended up returning the game.

Mr Deap

How long have you played FFXI? I picked it up when it hit the states (had pre order and all) for PC (came out before the PS2 version). I got into it for a long time but I ended up quitting. The game just feels like one massive grind to me =/, not like a true Final Fantasy. I did really enjoy the job sub system and all though, and I especially loved it in Final Fantasy 5. But it seemend in FF11, you still had to be the same cookie cutter jobs anyway (War/Mnk, Pal/War, Sam/War, Mage/Mage, etc)

I bought that game thinking I could be some kind of cool Monk/Mage, or something along those lines, but the mechanics and the social community just couldn't let you do that =(.

The graphics are the 2nd best MMORPG graphics I've seen (World of Warcraft has it beat in my opinion, just because of it's awsome style). And yes, FF11 has better graphics than say EQ2 even.

The music is OK, but not enough music on the field, and the same old town music gets boring (especially Sandy's).

Gameplay is cool, same old party system though, just every other MMORPG (Tank, DPS, Healer, Support). Pretty awsome twists though like the summoner, the ninja, the paladin, and dragoon.

Main gripes are stuff like how some classes really aren't as useful as others, I've heard dragoons are pretty unwanted, etc.

One leveling area doesn't feel too immersive to me, say the Valkrum Dunes or etc. They all just seem like places your character goes to level up so the character can hurry up and reach the next social leveling area, not too much fun imo.

Tradeskills (synth) was done pretty cool, with all the specifics such as daytime, which direction you're facing, or etc.

I like how there were main bosses to defeat (I never got to see any though, didn't have the patience to level past 20).

Maybe they'll do a better job at an MMO next time around. (Preferably not a FF MMO, just a Square Enix based MMO).

What other games do you all play? I understand this is a FF fan thread, but I'm sure there are other rpg's you'd all like to discuss here =).

Games that dissapointed me from Square/Squaresoft/Square Enix that I've played:

Brave Fencer Mushashi (PS1) (Just was annoying, fun gameplay until it turns into a RPG run around game)

Drakkenguard (Ugh)

FF2-4 (Just not for me I guess)

FF CC (gamecube) What was this supposed to be...?

FF11 (More thought could have been put into it IMO, but all around a specific taste for those who love it)

Star Ocean (PS2) Story and characters were boring/dull, nice graphics and gameplay though

Xenogears (A favorite for many, good story, didn't like the gameplay)

Chrono Cross (Didnt like the gameplay enough , so I stopped)

Vagrant Story (Spelling?, didn't like the gameplay)

Games I enjoy from other companies

Disgaea (Fun characters, awsome gameplay, hundreds of hundreds of hours of gameplay, almost endless)

Everquest (My first MMORPG ever played, and has had a big effect on my gaming life, played for about 4 years from age 12 to 16 or so)

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

What I don't like about FFXI is the amount of grinding you have to do after lvl 10ish. :indiff: The grindings after 10ish is that you always have to be in a group taking on 1 mob at a time. Sometimes getting into a decent group is takes hours and hours just to get into. Its like there isnt enough people around or sometimes the area is too crowded.

DRK/WAR was all I got to until I quit at lvl I think 37. :O Got tired of waiting for a group invite to start grinding.

I still kept the FFXI box and CD just because its a final fantasy. :O

BTW, is there any official release date for Advent Children yet? :odd:

I really wonder. Though, I care more about when I'll see the XBOX360 on the shelve, cause I want to buy one.
