The Highway Girl: Page 9 - The New Reina

So... I'm guessing that the GT-R was based on Shinigami's GT-R, right?

It is. I have my own version of it as well tuned for 500PP touge.

Here it is...

Today is the last race against the Akiyama family. I am facing against Shouji Akiyama, who drives a blue R34 GT-R.

It will be held on sunset, and it would take place at a Touge just nearby Tokyo.

It's such a big event that people as living as far as Kanazawa have attended.

I am at the foot of the hill, since Shouji requested to have an uphill battle, and then return back to the base of the mountain. Should there be no changes in pace, we switch positions until the winner is determined.

It's so hot that I have to wear a sleeveless shirt. Kaido is making final adjustments to my FD while I am with Takanori and Samui.

Meanwhile...

8551895088_39b5b94ee0_c.jpg

Takuma Sato: "I have read this in racing blogs. I have to watch this..."

8550793097_a4656235b7_c.jpg

8551894502_dfdc2b24a6_c.jpg

Takuma Sato: "The Touge is indeed a challenging road which makes it more exciting. Sometimes, it's boring to go around in circles at a track.

Takuma Kanonji.... we have yet to have a showdown!"

8550792329_f9e7b3403d_c.jpg

He steps out of the car. The bystanders immediately notice his presence.

Bystanders: "It's Takuma Sato! He's here to watch the race!"

Takuma Sato: "Hey, is this where they will start?"

Bystander: "They will do an uphill run and then turn around here."

Takuma Sato: "I see. I guess I made a mistake in parking here. But I think I should just stay."

**********************************************************

Takanori: "What!? Are you serious?"

Takuma: "I am. What's the problem with that?"

Takanori: "7 seconds is too big of a gap!"

Takuma: "I don't want to end the fun so soon. I'm giving him a lot of window of time. Besides, I have got training to do."

Samui: "Training?"

Takuma: "Whenever I race, I also do my training regimen. I will never ever forget Otousan's racing drills."

Takanori: "Ben-san is surely amazing. Well, I can only show this...

...a thumbs up!"

Takuma: "You very well know what kind of thumbs up I show to the crowd."

Shouji approaches us while he is wearing his racing gloves.

Shouji: "Shall we start the race?"

Takuma: "Let's go."

Shouji: "I won't hold back. I shall make the Akiyama family proud with this one."

Shouji takes the runner position. This is a perfect opportunity to do my training regimen.

And we're off! Heh, I won't be surprised if the GT-R is such a rocket in the uphill.

8551893876_86579074f4_c.jpg

Takanori: "That R34 is so fast that it makes a dead man scream!"

Samui: "I assume that makes over 600 horsepower."

Takanori: "Indeed! 600 horsepower is very easy with the RB26DETT engine!"

8550791803_bb4a1a9a7c_c.jpg

Shouji: "Touge Monster? Yeah right..."

8551893300_d7d0fcdd62_c.jpg

Shouji: "Rotaries are so wimpy. I wonder why that engine has attracted so much followers?"

8550791229_03f5a718b3_c.jpg

Just carry on, Shouji... I don't want anyone interfering with my training.

8550790875_7374af4aee_c.jpg

Use those 7 seconds very well, it might even make you a winner if you use it properly.

At the starting point, Takanori checks the progress of the race.

Takanori: "I see, thank you."

Samui: "How's the race going?"

Takanori: "Aniki is very far behind. He really made that 7 second gap serious."

Samui: "Training regimen, huh?"

8550790597_f4dffb9aca_c.jpg

Shouji: "For centuries, our families compete who is the fastest in message delivery. And you always turn out to be the winner."

8550790153_313dce65d2_c.jpg

Shouji: "But I shall be the one doing the honors of turning the tables!"

8551891684_26caa51f62_c.jpg

To be honest, I find this rivalry stupid. I'm even sharing the same train of thought with Sasori. I don't know why some people can't let go of their past. Do you really have to hold on to your pride? Our businesses don't compete each other! You got your very successful mail and parcel delivery service, while my family just owns a Mochi shop! How can those businesses clash?

8551891274_717793e5b2_c.jpg

Whatever, time to train!

8551895858_d6356a2d03_c.jpg

The moment I got the Zonda R as Otousan's 19th birthday gift to me, I am so excited to race it. So we headed to The Top Gear test track, and he is once again teaching me a technique.

Ben: "On a car like this, you should know how to feather the throttle."

Takuma: "Huh? What do you mean?"

Ben: "You can't just step on it. The accelerator pedal determines your car's balance as well.

8550793897_ff5d040774_c.jpg

On the first corner, I went in too much and immediately applied opposite lock. I screwed up, and I hit the cones.

Ben: "Oh dear... What kind of right foot do you have!?"

8550793669_ec43fd83a1_c.jpg

Ben: "Oh you hateful imbecile! You are too early on the throttle! You should be at half throttle!"

And then I spun out at the Hammerhead. Otousan was really upset...

8551895280_d9027e4426_c.jpg

Ben: "Now you did it. I know you're angry to your family right now, but don't let that ruin your racing career! Controlling the accelerator is like controlling your temper! There's no shame in backing off the throttle for a bit!

You are not eating supper for tonight."

And right now.... watch carefully, Otousan.

8550789165_3d91ec733c_c.jpg

A single tear flowed out from Takuma's eye.

This is my accelerator control! Let's go, FD!

8550788925_730691c3f3_c.jpg

Just go half-throttle...

Bystanders: "Oh look, that's the GT-R! Wait, what happened to the FD!?"

8551890356_eb31941d56_c.jpg

Bystanders: "There it is! The two cars will meet each other!"

8550788323_2e64b64c8f_c.jpg

8551889826_71d79d5d8d_c.jpg

I performed a 180 degree turn. While doing so, I see Takuma Sato... Heh, to think I've attracted someone like him.

8550787671_d20d1f9f87_c.jpg

Takuma Sato: "There you are. And I think the battle would last longer... You are a racer on a totally different level."

50% throttle...

8551889226_6127f5bf4b_c.jpg

And gently floor it!

8551888888_c27e8ee67e_c.jpg

Heh, I see you now... You just wasted that precious gap! The FD can easily conquer the downhill!

8550786779_48d3c527b8_c.jpg

8551888426_9663f5ca9d_c.jpg

Shouji: "Oh... How impressive, you've kept up. That is to be expected from a Takuma Kanonji."

8550786341_1affc0b69e_c.jpg

Don't be so hasty. The battle is not yet over!

8551887712_c86feb1eb0_c.jpg

Takanori: "There they are! Surely there will be a 2nd round!"

8550785865_3645cff839_c.jpg

Shinji: "What a miracle. To think Takuma managed to keep up from that huge gap. Aniki, be careful. I was fooled by Takanori, so don't fall prey to Takuma!"

We switched places. Now I am at the lead. 2nd round will definitely be tougher, that's for sure.

Excellent work on another Initial D style battle recreation, just like Keisuke vs Kozo 'God Foot' Hoshino.

Page 14 - Dogfight!

Second round has started. I will do my very best to hold on and outrun him before the race ends.

8554808906_7c249c4d4f_c.jpg

I am pressured already.

8554808752_237776ee1f_c.jpg

It's no doubt that the R34 GT-R has a lot more pickup than the FD in the uphill. And it can eat the FD alive at the corner exits! The GT-R truly is a traction monster!

8553699789_d2980453bf_c.jpg

Shouji: "A rotary engine has a narrow torque band. It shines in its best when you keep it in high rpm. You can't use much of the engine's rpm on a winding road."

8553699425_f3f64aef54_c.jpg

Shouji: "My R34 has a lot more power and torque to play with in a mountain pass. You cannot outrun me...."

8554803874_6cbfce56ba_c.jpg

Somehow, I can breathe through the corners. Can an R34 GT-R come as close as 50:50 in weight distribution?

8554803670_587ba444be_c.jpg

But the R34 is already hot on my FD's tail. I have to hold on! I will fight back on the downhill!

8553698879_a22da78ac1_c.jpg

Shouji: "The summit is near. I must attack."

8553698879_a22da78ac1_c.jpg

He's making a move! Damn!

8554803614_44a987cf16_c.jpg

8554802994_4324017be3_c.jpg

He is taking another lane!? What the hell are you trying to do, Shouji!?

Shouji: "This is for the Akiyama clan! I shall bring that name to victory!"

Bystanders: "Whoa! Check that out! Shouji Akiyama will attempt to turn using the other lane! What they are about to do is suicidal!"

8553698227_e83077e347_c.jpg

Are you crazy!?

8553698093_ca33a10fd8_c.jpg

I have to countersteer early here. I have to avoid him!

8553697791_ddb686dfae_c.jpg

8554801934_5eca5862cd_c.jpg

Whew, that was close...

8554801768_66d8c74da3_c.jpg

Nice trick, but do you think that will make me give up? Not ever!

**********************************************************

Takanori: "What!?"

Samui: "What's wrong?"

Takanori: "Aniki was overtaken... at the summit. The R34 went to the other lane and the two almost came into contact while doing the 180 degree turn. Capitalizing the 4WD's traction, Shouji easily took the lead."

Samui: "Oh no..."

Takanori: "If Aniki has to win, then he must overtake Shouji!"

8554801612_69bba405dc_c.jpg

8554801720_5f6bfa7638_c.jpg

Shouji: "I am not gonna be nice from this point on. I shall do everything to win here!"

You want a fight? Come on, I'm very much ready!

8554801098_5da10d845f_c.jpg

Drift battle, eh? As an FR driver, I cannot lose! Bring it on!

8553696369_d782f15fd9_c.jpg

Eh? The R34 starts to understeer...

8554800728_c12872de6c_c.jpg

Of course! It's heavier than the FD! And the heavy front engine makes the front tires suffer! You made it even worse when you start to drift!

8554800556_6ae71550ff_c.jpg

Shouji: "The R34 is understeering right now. Damn, I never thought that this battle would last this long. I did that stunt back there to upset the FD's balance and outrun it. But it backfired..."

8554800434_58814956ac_c.jpg

Right here! I'll pass you!

Shouji: "No you don't!"

He blocked me. Damn, I almost lost control. Moving on to the next one. The race will end soon. I must overtake him!

Then at the 2nd to the last corner, I floored it. I overtake him! But the R34 tapped my FD's rear. Crap, I gotta keep it in control!

8553695715_e65953c40d_c.jpg

Just feathering the accelerator...

8553697957_bac60e704c_c.jpg

Takanori: "There it is! Aniki wins the race!"

As a sign of victory, of course I have to raise out my right arm up and show my signature thumbs up. Takanori does the same.

Takanori: "Yeah! Now that's a thumbs up!"

Samui: "Amazing..."

Shinji: "Unbelievable. To think Takuma retook the lead..."

Sasori: "I'm glad this is over."

We have cooled down our cars. Shouji approaches me.

Shouji: "We lost once again. There's nothing left to do but to concede. You won the war..."

Takuma: "Win or lose, I want this to end, anyway. I just don't like the fact that you are still living in the past."

Shouji: "All we ever wanted is to glorify our name once again."

Takuma: "Then this is not the right way to do it. You already got what you wanted. Your very successful business glorified your family name. Things like this are not necessary. Besides, this is not the Edo Period. You have already proven yourselves that you are great. Forget the past, and move on."

Shouji: "I see... I think we should be contented with what we have."

Takuma: "That's right. It's not right to step on other people's ambitions just to get what you want. My family and I are already contented with what we achieved so far, and we ask for nothing more."

At the top of the hill, Takuma Sato gets back in his car, and he shows a confident smile as her drives along.

Takuma Sato: "Very impressive performance there. I am now very eager to race you, Takuma Kanonji! I am fired up..."

End of Page 14

I might end this story with a cliffhanger with the start of the Takuma vs. Takuma duel.

Next page to be posted later.

Same Name

Page 15 - Same Name

Whew.... I'm glad this mess is over. Even though I never heard a thing from the Akiyama family after the battle, I'm happy that everything is back to normal.

The Super GT season is just around the corner, but as much as I would love to join, I am afraid that The Dream Alliance's members has other commitments, and I am also worried about Samui, since there is no one to guide him.

I'll be getting very busy from now on. Also, I have to prepare myself, as I will be a full-fledged father soon. Once my 2nd child is born, it would be more difficult, and I have to be with my family more often than ever. Little Ben's karting skills have improved, and he has gotten more matured; in fact more matured for his age.

One sunny afternoon, Samui visits me in my new home.

Samui: "Wow... I wish I could have a home like this. Well-furnished and sophisticated styling!"

Takuma: "Oh, there you are. Sorry to keep you waiting. What brings you here?"

Samui: "Heehee... you live just across your mother's home?"

Takuma: "I have to take care and help my mother, that's why."

Samui: "I will be off to Twin Ring Motegi to meet my partner in the upcoming Super GT season."

Takuma: "That's great to hear. This is the start of your fulfillment of your dreams."

Samui: "Thank you for everything, Takuma. If I haven't met you and Takanori, I would be stuck playing tennis and just staying home for the rest of the day."

Takuma: "Experience teaches a lot to a person. Lectures aren't enough."

Samui: "That's true. Hey, you have time? Can you come with me?"

Takuma: "Sure, no problem! Let's go."

I immediately told Kokoro that I will be leaving with Samui. I'm amazed that the boy has gotten more determined. Though he still has this humility and silence similar to Nobuhiko.

And so, we arrive at the Twin Ring Motegi.

Eh, where is this person that we should meet?

Samui: "He should be here..."

Takuma: "Maybe he is practicing."

Indeed he is. It's a yellow Porsche 930 with a wing.... on a wing.

8557555734_ec01ec888c_c.jpg

Samui: "A Porsche 911?"

Takuma: "Yep, but by the looks of it, it's been tuned by RUF."

8557555598_0e9c80f793_c.jpg

Samui: "Oh, the person we'll meet is named Nobuyuki Ishida. You may not hear his name that much, and he admitted that he had a rough time last season, with his team scoring low points due to a lot of challenges."

Takuma: "I see. With you around, I think he'll have a great time. Just believe in yourself, and you can achieve everything."

8557555142_5eab17496b_c.jpg

8557554742_a758352448_c.jpg

The Porsche returns to the pit lane. He gets out of his car. Strangely, the man looks similar to Nobuhiko, albeit with a black harajuku-style hair.

Nobuyuki: "Samui-kun, what a pleasant surprise."

Samui: "Well, we have a meeting today, right?"

Nobuyuki: "Nah, it's been moved to next week. But I would want to see you, anyway. Oh, you brought Takuma Kanonji-san along?"

Takuma: "It's a pleasure meeting you, Nobuyuki."

Nobuyuki: "Nice to meet you too, and I'm honored to finally see you in person."

Takuma: "So, you are Samui's partner in the upcoming Super GT."

Nobuyuki: "Yes. And I believe that I chose the right person. Say, he has skills for a young age."

Takuma: "I believe that you will guide Samui. He still needs guidance..."

Samui: "Takuma, ummmm...."

Nobuyuki: "No worries, I'll train him. And Super GT will provide a very big break for him."

I took another moment at staring at him. He looks 100% Nobuhiko...

Nobuyuki: "Something wrong?"

Takuma: "Ummm... you look like our teammate that passed away last year. You somehow reminded me of him."

Nobuyuki: "Hehehehehehe... I see. Well, everyone says that."

Takuma: "Well then, I leave him to you. I wish you good luck for the season."

Nobuyuki: "You can count on me. Samui and I will not let you down!"

**********************************************************

What a nice guy. I believe that he'll finally be able to take the gold trophy. Samui's racing skills provide a great asset for his team. After Super GT, I'll definitely take him and make him part of The Dream Alliance, hehehehehe... Besides, he already is a member, right on the day he raced Sasori.

On Friday, just before sundown, I take a little detour to a Touge nearby after I visited Takanori in Kanagawa.

Suddenly, something comes up behind my car...

8556447187_3f3d14b012_c.jpg

8556447257_be8b356484_c.jpg

Heh, a Lotus Evora, eh? I've seen quite a few here in Japan, and I won't be surprised why they like it.

8556446733_a750ebdf65_c.jpg

The Evora goes on to the side, and what a surprise! It's Takuma Sato. He shows a thumbs up to me.

Heh, you want a race? Bring it on, F1 driver! I always want to take on F1 drivers.

8556446487_e66a8e38b4_c.jpg

Let the battle commence... Which "Takuma" will take the win?

End of Page 15

Once again, I need a volunteer... I can lend you the Evora.

Page 16 - Daring Maneuver

Takanori is browsing the internet since he's bored at home. While his wife is taking a nap with their 2 children, he goes to his Facebook fanpage to check out his fan photos and stories with GT-R.

However, he sees one post that disturbs him.

Hello, I am Kazuo Kusugi, I am one of your avid fans. I drive a black R32 GT-R, and I am hoping to meet you someday.

But let me share my horror story, if you'll allow me.

I was at Suzuka Circuit, and it was an open track day. After everything is ready, I set off. My tuned R32 made mincemeat of most modern cars. And while I am enjoying the track, something just came up!

At the hairpin, a white Toyota Supra passed me by the left. The scary part is...

...that car HAS NO DRIVER!!! I freaked out for a while. After being so much disturbed, I immediately returned to the pit lane and chills went down to my spine. The other drivers saw it too. I checked the racing blogs and the posters share the same story.

Did someone die recently in Suzuka?[
/B]

Takanori reads the comments, and all of them support Kazuo's claim.

Takanori: "Whoa... that was creepy. Huh, I gotta check that out."

**********************************************************

So, Takuma Sato challenged me to a race. Well, I am always eager to race F1 drivers like him.

8562740849_9dd15d0288_c.jpg

We share the same name, and fate allowed us to meet this way.

8563845848_144f76ff66_c.jpg

He's putting pressure on me, and I am sure he is making a pass.

8562740417_475abf86c5_c.jpg

Which he did, by braking late. At one point of his career, Takuma Sato drove a Lotus Evora GT4 in an endurance race. So he must be very familiar with the Evora's dynamics!

8563845404_336d4a577a_c.jpg

Driving an F1 car requires godly skill, and racing against an F1 driver requires 100% concentration and judgement!

8563845268_9302dc7c68_c.jpg

His Evora is pulling away at the corners!

Takuma Sato: "You must be familiar with this road, eh? You are just hanging on, never giving up. You are just like me..."

8563845082_15a98b4432_c.jpg

I can keep up by slipstream. But I have to overtake him!

8563845082_15a98b4432_b.jpg

8563844904_c0f26c3876_c.jpg

Heh, you made me sweat. You are one of the few rivals who could do that...

8562739581_b080b1a429_c.jpg

All right, I can pass... Shoot! he blocked me! I almost lost my balance there. No wonder F1 races and Indy 500 are so exciting.

8563844558_a2fa8c3e68_c.jpg

Takuma Sato: "Amazing... You never give up, huh? You just keep on attacking. Well, there goes my motto.

No Attack..."

8562739211_f2155d031e_c.jpg

Takuma: "...NO CHANCE!!!"

8563844130_f5c9a88f06_c.jpg

You left an opening. YOU'RE MINE!!!

Takuma Sato: "My turn!"

8563843974_614375b0fc_c.jpg

8563843744_616823404d_c.jpg

The Evora tapped the rear! Damn, both of us are too fast through the turn!

8562738373_74f1bd71cf_c.jpg

And we both spin out...

8562738213_069ce5ab64_c.jpg

Good thing nothing bad happened. Both of us get out of our cars.

Takuma Sato: "Whoops. I intended to lose your balance for a bit so I can overtake. But I guess I made the wrong move. Sorry... hehe."

Takuma: "Heh, just like in Indy 500."

Takuma Sato: "Yeah."

And then we laugh together. It was really fun racing with him...

Takuma Sato: "Hey, right now, I am with A.J. Foyt Racing in Indy 500. I am thinking of offering you a spot there."

Takuma: "As much I would love to work with you, I have to respectfully decline. I have sworn in my life to stay with The Dream Alliance. For me, the whole team is a family to me."

Takuma Sato: "I see. I wish you the best."

Takuma: "Same here. I hope it's a good season for you.

And don't crash, okay?"

Takuma Sato: "That, I don't know..."

And we laughed again.

Oh well.... I guess this wraps it up. I am really thankful taking your time to hear my adventures. This is me, Takuma Kanonji, growing and learning by experience.

Now, I'll be off. I will be too preoccupied to tell you the next part of my story. And then, I have to prepare for a much bigger challenge... much more challenging than 24 hours of Nurburging and 24 hours of Le Mans combined:

Being a family man.

With my second child coming out soon, I have to be spending more time with my family. I guess diaper changing is much more difficult than changing tires, huh?

Sayonara! Dewa mata atode!

Takuma Gaiden - END

The GT500 Legend II

Page 1 - The Yellow Flash

Hajimemashte! My name is Nobuyuki Ishida. I am 26 years old, and I am really hoping to capture the podium in the upcoming Super GT. I'm definitely sure I made the right choice of hiring Samui Kanonji to the Team Flash. He hails from the very famous Kanonji family. And I am sure he'll be as great as the Kanonji Twins.

Since Takuma Kanonji is having a lot of commitments, this is a nice opportunity to tell you my adventures. I'm pretty sure he'll be back soon...

Come, let's have a little bonding together!

Hmmmm... where to start? Oh shoot, the BMW Z4M Tsukuba one-make race is about to start! I gotta hop in!

8564080551_b31c47a6d8_c.jpg

8564078927_2f8ec31743_c.jpg

I gotta win this... I know I can.

And we're off! Fear me, for I am Japan's Yellow Flash!!!

8565180442_424fe3ac00_c.jpg

Oh, all of my cars are painted in yellow. Yellow is something special to me...

Anyways, I gotta make a move!

8565180892_83f2b83ac1_c.jpg

Hmmmm... I wonder where's Samui-kun? He's usually not late in meetings.

8564078071_846cf91fdb_c.jpg

I asked my manager, Hachi Sumida, to call him up. The meeting is urgent, you know?

8564082285_ff8011ec75_c.jpg

Samui: "Don't worry, I'll hurry up!"

8564082359_6ac3f2df4c_c.jpg

Samui: "Come on! I leave it to you now, NSX-kun! We'll make it in time!"

Well, good thing that Samui-kun is coming. Better late than never!

8564080709_282b1c5eb2_c.jpg

All right, I have the lead!

8564077507_cc9dbd41e0_c.jpg

I love the Z4 M! It still has BMW's proven inline-6 engine from the E46 M3, and as expected from an M car, it provides great handling. It's a shame though, that the current Z4 does not have an M version...

I took the race by storm! I received cash to fund for my team. While Hachi-san is inspecting the car, I grab a soda from a nearby vending machine. Man, summer in Japan is truly insane!

Samui-kun finally arrives, and he apologizes for being late.

Samui: "I'm very sorry, Nobuyuki-san! I have to run an errand for my grandmother."

Nobuyuki: "It's okay. Family first, right? So, let's get inside the room, it's cold there."

The room is air-conditioned, and what a relief!

Nobuyuki: "The car that we will use for the upcoming Super GT is ready. In a month, the season will officially start. We have that time to practice and develop the car."

Samui: "Understood."

Nobuyuki: "I see that you are still studying. I'll do the testing on weekdays, and we'll do it together on the weekends. Is that okay?"

Samui: "If only I could play hooky... But I'm okay with your proposal! Sure!"

Nobuyuki: "Make the Kanonji Twins proud. They entrusted me to shape you up."

Samui: "I won't let you down. And I will give my best."

Nobuyuki: "Whenever there's a problem. Don't hesitate to ask for my help, okay? I already view you as my little brother."

There... that's a nice ring to it. A little brother.... I lack one, since I lost him.

Meanwhile, at Suzuka Circuit...

McLaren Driver: "That driver-less Supra.... How many times I've seen it running? It truly is a phantom. Racers here should get used to seeing that one running..."

**********************************************************

I headed home in Ginza, Tokyo. I immediately open my PC and go to the Internet, just like how everyone is doing in this generation.

I go to a ghost story forum, since I love scaring myself.

Then I notice a hot topic, I entered there and it's all about a driver-less racing car in Suzuka Circuit. Lots of stories about it have been circulating around the internet. But I never realized that it would be so hot, that even I took notice.

Even some of them see it roaming around the roads surrounding Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture.

Hmmmm... if I have time, I would definitely check that out. Besides, we will have our first testing in Suzuka Circuit...

Something tells me Samui will be battling his mentor's spirit.

And these sort of stories really inspire me to make my own GT fan fic should i ever have the time. Thumbs up to the Takuma battle; it really is a fitting end.

Page 2 - Supra Galore

It's a hot Saturday afternoon, and it's perfect for Samui-kun to test out the car we will use for the season. I believe this shall do the trick. We are at Suzuka Circuit to test the car, as planned.

But my curiosity somehow gets in the way. Is it really true that a driver-less racing car tears up here? I may be fond of horror stories, but I can also get skeptical when things get questionable.

Never mind that, on to the test!

Samui: "A Toyota Supra?"

Nobuyuki: "Indeed. It's a great contender in the Super GT. It won races in its career. Thankfully, we can still run this car under special permission. I love the Supra so much that I really have to talk to the higher-ups for them to approve it for racing despite being out of production."

Samui: "What's under the hood?"

I open the engine bay, and he is amazed.

Nobuyuki: "It's a 4.3 liter normally-aspirated V8 found in a Lexus. It's proven to have lots of pickup especially at the corner exits."

Samui: "Since we are running at the GT500 class, I assume it has 500 horsepower, right?"

Nobuyuki: "Correct. And now with the wider, aerodynamic body with slick tires, expect it to drive very differently."

Samui: "Understood."

Nobuyuki: "Don't drive your 100% here. We're not here for a lap record. Just get used to the car's feeling. You have to master driving a racing car as well. You have been driving road cars lately, and this is a perfect opportunity to learn something new today."

So Samui-kun straps himself in the car after initial setups are done. I am not expecting him to fully grasp the car immediately. All he needs to do is familiarize it.

8568854634_430c1a535a_c.jpg

Samui: "That surge of power! It's instant!"

Nobuyuki: "Samui-kun, can you hear me?"

Samui: "Yes. What is it?"

Nobuyuki: "You have the benefit of better aerodynamics. You can corner way faster than a road car."

8567756803_2da743c32f_c.jpg

Samui: "Yes. I can take on the turns faster. And I have already familiarized the track already. All I need to do is study the car's behavior."

Nobuyuki: "Glad to hear it."

Hmmmmm.... I am not seeing a white racing car here. Though there are lots of white racing cars. I have to get specific details...

8568854018_76143dc863_c.jpg

Samui: "Nobu-senpai is not here..."

8568854004_f4a8cdbdc8_c.jpg

Samui: "But recently, he has been practicing here with his Supra. And now, he's becoming an urban legend of some sort."

8567756007_0d1b2f152e_c.jpg

Samui: "This feels way different. It corners a lot faster, and it accelerates like a rocket ship."

8567755845_e886b1110b_c.jpg

He returns to the pit lane for him to tell his initial impressions. Let's see what he thinks of the car.

Samui: "Hmmmm... It's like playing a video game. There is an ease of controlling the car. I can manage 500 horsepower easily."

Nobuyuki: "With wider tires, racing suspension and a heavy-duty LSD, power is well-sorted."

Samui: "And it can corner like it has unlimited grip."

Nobuyuki: "That is made possible by the aerodynamics."

Samui: "That's all I can say..."

Nobuyuki: "Race cars are designed not to stress the driver too much. The key factor of winning a race is concentration and skill. The easier the car it is to drive, the better the driver can concentrate, and unleash his skills easily. Besides, all the cars are evenly matched."

I am impressed that Samui-kun is getting the hang of driving a totally different car. It is very valuable for him, especially that he is an aspiring race car driver.

After the session, we all go home. What a productive day it is, and Samui has learned a thing today.

Hmmmmm.... about that phantom race car, I guess it's just an urban legend.

After having dinner with my friends, I wander around Tokyo's freeways.

8567758067_515a00e3e9_c.jpg

Being well-paid, it's no surprise that I own a sports car. In fact, I have three of them - the RUF-tuned 911 Turbo, BMW Z4 M, and this.... a Dodge Viper GTS.

8567757899_41e9da0256_c.jpg

Concerning that story, I really question the credibility of it. I didn't see one today, and they are not specific. There are a plenty of white racing cars, you know? I am assuming, though, that most of the people seeing it are those who are just watching at the track or someone that has little knowledge on cars.

8567757757_763ec0f426_c.jpg

What a leisurely late Saturday night cruise...

...oh wait, I am hearing something. It's so loud.

8567757599_882baa6196_c.jpg

It could be a heavily-tuned car....

8567757467_97ff5ae420_c.jpg

It's coming really fast! I can already see lights on the rear view mirror!

8567757327_c3669bf941_c.jpg

8568854826_e15ab00743_c.jpg

A white Supra, eh? And with that livery.... heh.

However, the moment it passed me, I suddenly feel chills... going down to my spine.

It would be very exciting to compare my Supra against that phantom Supra!

Let's play sometime!

End of Page 2

Hiroyuki Hiramoto will be present in the next page, and he will encounter Nobuyuki.

I am thinking of creating another book. There are 2 possible stories, though only one will be confirmed.

- Nobuyuki goes snow rallying

or

- A story set in the future, with the X2010 and X2011 being the main cars, and will be driven by the next generation Kanonjis. Though there will also be some "classic" cars that will make a brief appearance.

I am still thinking as to what will I choose between those two as the next book.

I vote that! lol, 2:25 AM right now :P.

I wonder what Hiroyuki will make of the 'Phantom Supra' stories.

Also I vote for the 'Glimpse into the Future' story with the Red Bull X cars. But to be honest, go with what you feel is best for you.

Page 3 - Under 1 Minute

On Monday, since I have got nothing to do (plus the Supra is being worked on), I head to Tsukuba Circuit in Ibaraki. Ibaraki is somehow located at the outskirts of Tokyo, and no wonder why a lot go to Tsukuba to have fun. Fuji, Suzuka, Sendai Highland, Autopolis, and other major circuits are located far away from the capital.

Upon arrival, I immediately saw a matte pink Murcielago SV. Looks really great!

8570980069_a2d9701221_c.jpg

And I see a live timer recording the lap time. I won't be surprised if the car has done less than 1 minute...

8570979307_60bf7d5606_c.jpg

The moment it passed the line, the timer recorded 57.3 seconds. Impressive! But I don't think the Lambo is modified.

It returns the pit lane. And it turns out that Takanori Kanonji is driving it.He takes off his helmet and fixes his hair with his hand.

Takanori: "It's freaking hot!!! Oh, there you are Nobuyuki-san! What brings you here? How's Samui?"

Nobuyuki: "I just want to kill boredom. I will try to set a lap time with this Viper. As for Samui-kun, he is doing great. He will be an asset for the team."

Takanori: "Glad to hear it! Ooooh, a GTS, huh? Pretty neat. I like it more than the 2004-2010 Viper, actually."

Nobuyuki: "I didn't increase the horsepower. I focused on improving the handling instead. I don't want a 10-second car like some bald guy in the movies want."

Takanori: "Hahahahaha! Right... You want a sub-1 minute car, huh? No problem with that, I guess."

Nobuyuki: "Time to set off."

Takanori: "I wish you good luck. Hmmmmm.... I wonder where's Hiroyuki-san?"

Nobuyuki: "Hiroyuki?"

Takanori: "Oh, that's Hiroyuki Hiramoto-san. He is now the technical director of Lexus apart from being the member of The Dream Alliance."

Nobuyuki: "Ohhhhh.... Well, I want to meet him. Anyways, I've got a lap time to set."

After a warm up lap, here I go! I'll be happy if this sets a lap time faster than 1 minute...

8572080158_5c5569aa9f_c.jpg

8570984457_6cd6860036_c.jpg

I can corner with confidence. When I drove it in stock, there's body roll, and sometimes I end up in understeer. With the new fully-adjustable suspension and LSD, I guess these shall bring improvements.

8572075870_ccfa436856_c.jpg

8572075752_4eeedde50c_c.jpg

58.8 seconds.... Damn, so close! that's just .1 second slower than Samui-kun's Spoon NSX! With his current NSX though, it'll be even more difficult to beat.

I return to the pit lane, and I see a group of mechanics. Takanori-san is with them.

Takanori: "Hey, nice lap time!"

Nobuyuki: "That's 1.4 seconds slower than your SV."

Takanori: "I actually didn't tell my wife that I'll bring her SV, hehehehe... She's in Tokyo with her father and our 2 kids doing shopping."

Nobuyuki: "I see. What's with the mechanics here?"

Takanori: "Hiroyuki-san has just arrived."

8572081760_a03c4a0ff1_c.jpg

Nobuyuki: "That's him? In that Lexus?"

Takanori: "Indeed!"

8572081486_7165c56e3f_c.jpg

Judging by its exhaust note, it's definitely heavily modified. But I don't hear a turbo blow-off sound. Usually, turbocharged cars conquer this track. But that Lexus just flies by!

8572083328_4e5e9149d8_c.jpg

8570985357_5136b46b8e_c.jpg

Takanori: "Impressive speed, isn't it?"

Nobuyuki: "I agree."

Takanori: "Though I find having 8 gears in an automatic just crazy. But he told me that it's an old man's transmission, and I must deal with it."

The ISF clocks in at 52.3 seconds. Amazing! That's on par with time attack cars.

It goes back, and he comes out of the car. He immediately notices me...

Hiroyuki: "Aren't you The Yellow Flash?"

Nobuyuki: "Yes. It's a pleasure meeting you."

I bowed in front of him as a sign of respect.

Hiroyuki: "And you remind me of someone..."

Nobuyuki: "I expected you to say that."

Takanori: "Hmmmm.... I just checked the internet in my smartphone now. The stories of that "Phantom Supra" are growing."

Hiroyuki: "Phantom Supra?"

Takanori: "It's said to be seen running in Suzuka. The creepy part is, that it has no driver..."

Hiroyuki: "No driver??? What are kids taking these days? Something worse than drugs? Are they inhaling bleach instead of marijuana?"

Now that he mentioned it.... That white Supra that passed me in the highway. Could that be?

Nobuyuki: "I've seen it too, I guess."

Takanori: "Huh?"

Nobuyuki: "A white Supra overtook me at high speed in Route 7 last Saturday. Could that be it? Kinda vague, but it dons a Castrol livery..."

Takanori: "What the...!?"

Hiroyuki: "It might be just another one. After all, Nobuhiko has a share of fans too. His Supra is just resting in a garage just nearby the circuit. I haven't even have the time to run it ever since he died. I fear that it won't even start at all. I'll try running it this weekend."

Takanori: "Well, I gotta see it to believe it!"

Nobuyuki: "But stories about the driver-less Supra are growing."

Hiroyuki: "Whatever. I don't believe in paranormal stuff. I can't believe that kids today are believing in those."

Oh shoot! I almost forgot! I have to check my Supra back in Tokyo! Gotta go...

Nobuyuki: "Sorry to cut this short, but I have something to do. We'll talk next time."

Hiroyuki: "Take care. And I just hope you don't inhale bleach too."

I get back in the car. And you know what, I am so happy.... that I shed a tear. I have to fight back my emotions back there...

How does it feel seeing your first-born son again, Oyaji? I miss you and Okaasan so much! It's been 16 years! I'm back!

Then I just let tears flow while I'm driving...

Page 4 - Taken Away

All right, now that you have learned that I am the first-born son of Hiroyuki and Kyoko Hiramoto. Let me tell you the story why was I separated from them.

I was abducted...

16 years ago, I was just 10 years old, and Nobuhiko was just 5. Both of us were playing catch at a park. It was autumn, and I was seeing yellow leaves fall while we play. Even the ball's color was yellow. My little brother and I were having fun.

Until Nobuhiko threw the ball so strong that I wasn't able to catch it. I volunteered to get it. It rolled far away. I was able to get it, but some men come up and dragged me. The ball was released from my grip... and I was calling for help. It was futile, my mouth was covered and I was put to sleep.

I'm sure Nobuhiko and my parents were waiting for me...

Nobuhiko: "Nii-san? Where are you???

Kyoko: "Where's your big brother?

Nobuhiko: "He just get the ball. Now he takes so long to come back."

Hiroyuki: "Nobuyuki!!! Nobuyuki!!! Nobuyuki!!!

Then I woke up in a room filled with other kids. They were also as young as a I am. It turned out that we were abducted by a child trafficking syndicate.

I searched my way out of the building, but the captors instantly found me and beat me up. And I was given no supper that night.

I was crying... I was crying so hard because I miss my family so much. And I love little Nobuhiko so much as a sibling. He was very cheerful, and he would pull up pranks whenever I feel down. He is one little brother that everyone would want to have.

Until one day, the police came. I was thankful I could finally see my family again!

We were caught in a gunfire. And with that, it caused the building to burn.

Since I was beaten up, with my body in pain, I cannot make an escape quickly. I thought I am gonna die, and I expected to be burned alive in the building.

But I fought my way out. I am so eager to see my family. I was able to come out from the building, but I passed out.

Next thing I knew, I was on a bed, being treated. But I am in a different home.

A couple entered the room, and I was shaking in fear. But they turn out to be good, and they actually rescued me. The couple's name were Tatsuya Ishida and Miura Ishida.

Miura: "How are you? Oh, what's your name?

Nobuyuki: "Nobuyuki... Hiramoto."

Tatsuya: "You have a wonderful name."

Miura: "We are sorry to tell you this, but the media stated that you are the only child that perished in the building. Because of that, your parents gave up on the search."

Hearing that, I was devastated. Why did they easily give up???

Nobuyuki: "No!!!! I am alive! I will look for them!"

Miura: "It's too dangerous. And... well, we want you to tell this."

Nobuyuki: "What is it?"

Tatsuya: "You see, my wife has a hostile womb, and we are eager to adopt a child. This is a perfect opportunity... to welcome you to the family.

Miura-san hugged me. I understand that she wants a child, but...

Miura: "Don't worry, we'll provide you everything you want. And who knows, maybe you could find your parents when you grow up. Please stay...."

Nobuyuki: "O... Okay. You rescued me, so thank you very much."

I grew up with them experiencing their love and care. They were loving, but nothing beats the love from your real parents, from the persons you used to grow up with. I miss little Nobuhiko so much...

Then, I found out that Oyaji died in a heart attack in his last JGTC race in Suzuka. I was so depressed, I cried for an entire week, and became a recluse for a while.

And the moment I got my license, I got interested in racing. So I entered at a racing school.

I graduated in flying colors. Through this, I could finally be noticed, and be reunited with my family.

My debut in racing was a very nice one. I placed 1st in the NR-A Roadster Cup in Tsukuba.

8573786837_116c1e90ab_c.jpg

8573786653_72e55ee090_c.jpg

Though of course, hard times befell on me. Super GT was my one-way ticket for me to stardom. I wasn't that successful, especially in the GT300 class.

8573786985_40b3a71396_c.jpg

Then just last year, another calamity stroke down on me. Nobuhiko died... my precious little brother.... why did you have to go???

I can't take it anymore back then. So I decided to hang myself in my room. But my adoptive mother saw this.

Miura: "NOOOOOOOOO!!!! STOP!!!!"

She took the rope away, and I was crying so hard. So hard that I have to wail.

Two of the most important people in my life just vanished. I just cannot take it anymore...

I became a recluse once again. After much convincing from my adoptive parents, I went back on track.

And then I became overjoyed when I found out that Oyaji was alive after all, and he's reconciled with Okaasan. With these, I have once again found strength. The strength that will once again allow me to make the Hiramoto name feared in the world of speed.

I have now signed up for GT500. Everyone, even my manager, told me that it's a big gamble considering my little success in GT300. But with my renewed strength along with Samui-kun, I shall never lose!!!

8574880152_e3cf83711b_c.jpg

Oyaji, just watch me!
