Its not the regulations. Its the design itself! The reason the cars look similar is because that actually is the best aerodynamic configuration.

If you look back to the Aston AMR-1 that they made, that car was a brick wall at high speed. It had so much drag with its horrific(Unique) aero package...

The reason the front end of the Toyota looks like the Peugeot is because thats the least drag and most downforce configuration. Peugeot and Audi are doing aero to maximize downforce/reduce drag. Naturally that leads to the optimized same design.

The issue with the AMR-1 was apparently down to the engine, not the aero. Apparently it had pretty good aero in the end.

The more I keep seeing the TS030, the more I like it. Just a shame about these damned fins (which haven't even proven to be very useful!).

On the AMR-One, it as been described as low downforce/high drag. Not a good combination....

And you obviously didn't watch last years Le Mans or Spa 1000km as the fins have proven to be quite effective at doing what they're meant to do.

Like a good soup however the plot has thickened over the 908...

L'|Equipe report that Peugeot 908 Privateer deal was signed 2 days before plug pulled on whole pogramme #WEC

Question is, who is the Priveteer running them?

No-one, that got scrapped when Peugeot pulled the plug. The team in question was Signature/Signatech.

The Toyota does look like a proper car, doesn't it? Hope it delivers on that promise, as even though I'm an Audi fan I'd like to see a decent race at Le Mans this year.

Mulsannescorner.com:

"We're also hearing that the much maligned Aston Martin engines weren't necessarily the source of the program's angst. The engine program did suffer from a very delayed and short development program. So delayed, the engine only just ran on the dyno the month before the first track test. And priority was given to producing engines for the race team, not development. Thus engine teething problems went unaddressed. But we're told that fundamentally the engine was solid. That leaves the chassis. We're told the CFD-only developed AMR-One (known internally as the R-17) suffered from very high drag and little downforce. Mechanically the car produced good grip and was the sole source of joy for the drivers. The car's aerodynamic deficit apparently only came to light following a coast down test in late April.

^^what he said. That is what happens when you stray from the optimum aero configuration which Audi/Peugeot/Toyota are using. You end up with a flying brick that has way too much drag.

FML nitrorocks can you please stop quoting posts when you're posting directly after...I don't need to scroll past the same images twice!

Oh my gosh, I'm going to personally apologize on his behalf for the inconvenience it causes you to scroll down for another half a second. I'm sure he'll be off punishing himself.

It would be great to see a Peugeot privateer team. What else will they do with 4-6 Beautiful Race cars?

Sell them to collectors, put them under sheets in a warehouse, in a museum or sell them to race teams, take your pick.

I have alot of faith in Toyota. They were immediatly up to pace when they entered LeMans with the GT1. Remember, the team still has tons of F1 expierence and their last car had great aero. The car looks alot like the 908, Im sure that Toyota is able to get alot out of the LMP1 regulation which is more open then the strict f1 rules.

Love the sound of that car, sounded abit like the X1 in GT5 when it pulled out. If its competitive enough, I expect the petrol side will finally have a car representing them well in the battle against the Diesels.

This hybrid really gives the car it's character.

It sounds like a steroided up Prius on pit lane, then bam, 3.4L of V8 kicks in your face.

That R18 certainly looks more and more underwhelming now.

Still, I'd rather prefer a turbo in that Toyota. But hopefully I can in GT 5 down the line.👍

I don't know if it's been posted yet, but this article from Car magazine says the TS030 will make its debut at Spa and will compete at Le Mans and Fuji. I don't know if they'll have a larger programme.

I think that's just a calendar showing all of the races in the 2012 WEC season. It's not confirmation that Toyota will race at all of them.
