The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

That Aston Martin makes me nauseous.

That Oreca 908 looks delicious though. This livery is a lot better than the previous one. It's a lot less busy.👍

I'm glad Aston Martin went for something other than a diddy V8. And an I6 would sound rather similar to the V12 they had:D The livery looks fugly though:yuck:

I prefer the older livery for the Oreca though.

I will most likely be at Lime Rock for ALMS. Wanted to do a few other events like Sebring. I went to Le Mans in 2007 and that is an experience I definitely want to do again. Not sure about this year though.

Too bad Sebring is going to be mostly airing on ESPN3.com with only 2 and a half hours being aired on ABC. Seriously, Speed, you suck 'cause you opted to pay for the Grand Am coverage and not ALMS. I just hope my internet will hold up for the first part of the online coverage.

What do you wish to know?
I want to know where I can search for news regarding the Le Mans cars, the development, and the races. I'd also like to know when 2011 is going to start and when we will start hearing news on ESPN3.com, the site where we can see it live.

The first race will be at Sebring and will be in 2 weeks time on the 19th. Usually sites like Autosport will have news on the ALMS and LMS series. Also PlanetLeMans.com has all the info you could want on the 24 and the races in between.

I think they cover Grand Am more than ALMS because Nascar has a stake in Grand Am or something like that.

And Nascar has ownership of Speed also. So market manipulation?

ABC will also have an hour and a half summarized showing on the 20th. And if you have an XBox a 2mbps Internet connection is more than enough, as the console apps for streaming media seem more stable than the browser-based, at least in my experience.

But really, Speed's ALMS coverage sucked anyway. Honestly, did you enjoy missing a third of the race for NASCAR testing? Plus ESPN3 will cover all the testing, practice, and qualifying as well. I clearly see why ALMS moved to this format. It was the only way they could guarantee full coverage of every race without working out three different TV deals. And even then they still didn't have proper coverage.

This is true, and likely plays a part.

They do? I thought Speed was owned by Newscorp (Fox), which has a huge contract with NASCAR. Even looking at Speed's site it is apparently part of the Fox Sports family. Clicking on the Jobs link takes you to foxcareers.com.

I believe you are mistaken, or they make no mention of this.

NASCAR owns Grand Am. That is one reason why there is so many NASCAR drivers in Grand Am. And since Fox bought the NASCAR broadcast rights, and Grand Am obviously came with it. And Speed is owned by Fox.

Can we start seperating the discussion for ALMS, Can-Am, LMS, LM 24H etc into their own threads again? This general discussion thread is such a mess to read.

^^^Seconded. We need a Sebring 12 hours thread ASAP, I'm just too lazy to make a proper one myself (and I suppose an american should do it ;) ).

But meanwhile, new european immigrants already departed and crossed the Atlantic, headed for Sebring. Searching fame and fortune no doubt :D

Could it be the signatech-oreca 03-Nissan, but with sponsors livery (Gulf apparently)? The car is mentioned in the article as being one of the loaded into the plane:

EDIT - Sorry, made a mistake. Apparently Pescarolo OAK cars will be sponsored by Gulf. This image I found is a computer render but it matches what we're able to see in the picture so I gues that's an OAK Pescarolo car.

Anyone notice that Lotus has entered the Evora GTE into the 24 Hours of LeMans?

Lots and lots of new cars coming out.

1. New LMP1 Aston
2. New Audi R18
3. New Hybrid-Diesel Peugeot
4. New Lotus Evora GTE
5. New Farrari 458 GT
6. New Team for the Ford GT
7. New Lamborghini GT car

And to come in the near future:
8. New Spyker GTE car to debut at the 2012 24 Hours of LeMans

Who knows what else is in store.

None of that is anything new to us. But isn't 'LeMans' it's Le Mans. And it's spelt Ferrari not Farrari.

Crap. I just looked and Lucas Ordonez has to face Ex-Stig at the 24 hours of Le Mans. I can't confirm this, though.
