huh?
The game is more of a chore than it is fun. What makes this game worse than the previous GTs is that in previous games you could sell the cars you were rewarded and earn credits that way, half of the cars you're rewarded with in this game you're not allowed to sell. You have to resort to going around in circles for hours just to get enough xp/credit to buy a car to compete in the next event.

/end rant

Mm, I know what you mean, I'm at level 21 and haven't touched the game in more than a week, the last few times I played felt like working. I just want to race in cars I like, winning money to buy more cars I like... I have no idea what the logic is behind the career progression as it is:(

I don't care about Screen tearing, shadows, standard cars, online, track # of anything except for this broken credit mess.

A spec has boring events so I want to be able to do arcade so i can choose my car and track etc. But no matter how much time i put into the game i won't make money doing arcade so I have to do the boring grinding of A spec and the even longer b spec.

Just make arcade pay rewards, sell cars for full price, remove the "500,000 credits for repair chassis regidity".
I won't complain about anything else.
I'm not a troller or a complainer.
This is an important thread and
unlike other things this is actually
game breaking

Moderation....... moderation. I just hit lvl 20 after two weeks. The logic is the game wasn't meant to be a quick and easy game to be burned through in 2 sittings. The system isnt broken, other parts of the game design are.... like the number of events.

Edit: Drama did you draw that S2000?

Xp implementation in the GT series is total fail. This isn't Call of Duty :grumpy:

Playing through the same events over and over and over again is a HUGE problem, I'm not tired of the gameplay, I'm tired of how PD wants me to play..

The EXP leveling system isn't so much broken, it's just horribly, horribly inefficient.

Every time you advance to a higher level, the counter is reset to zero. Last I checked, experience points didn't work that way...in fact, they're called experience points for a reason. You don't advance to a higher level and then essentially forget everything you've "experienced".

Combine that with the horrible choice of events (and their prize cars) and well, you basically have poop.

I put all my talentpoints in the fire-tree to unlock lvl 10 fireball. Cant wait to get to lvl 30 when you get lvl 4 fireblaze and lvl 6 wtf is wrong with this game.

I really dont have much bad to say about the game, I just wish there were more events. However, it doesn't matter if they reset to zero. They would still have the gaps the same distance apart.

I really hope they bring in xp for online racing soon, so we can play how we want to.

The crooked a.i. is what is really getting me down on the game right now.

:odd:

Level 24 requires 145,923, whereas Level 25 requires 186,781 (just random examples) if you were to maintain your XP (as it should be) you'd only have to amass 40,858 XP to advance to Lv. 25 from 24, as opposed to the entire 186,781 XP.

So, how is the gap the same distance apart?

I don't mind the xp thing (except for having to be a certain level to buy certain cars) but I'm disappointed by the lack of events, and the a.i.... ugh. It has moments where it seems like it works as intended, cars reacting to one-another and whatnot, but more often than not the a.i. still drives by braille.

I feel the same way. I keep being forced to drive cars I hate on tracks I don't like over and over again to get enough credits/exp to get to what I want to do. Previous ones you didn't HAVE to grind it didn't seem like. I even replayed GT4 from scratch recently getting ready for GT5 and it seemed like much less work (and not the fun work) and more play.

I actually bought a PS3 for this game alone and have been a fan of the series going on 9 years or so but I think unless some stuff changes in patches I may be looking for other options in the future.

I understand lots of people love it this way and I wouldn't want to take that away from them and I know a couple of people posting on a board have no real input on the course of the game but I feel this game is a step forward in looks but 2 back in gameplay.

There are so many things in this game where the solution so obvious and easily fixable it almost seems like they are testing the community to see how much they will take and the community will take lots! There are people actually making the argument they were rushed.. seriously!

I think what he ment was: If you are lvl 26 with 1% left on your xpbar, and race an endurancerace yielding 150,000 xp, you will get that 1% and start on 0% on lvl 27...

Happened to me, felt like stabbing my face for a while...

When you guys get to the later extreme events and then to the Endurance Events the XP gets a lot better.

I finished a Endurance race earlier and i ended up getting well over 100,000 XP. 👍

If so, he was just repeating what I said about the XP system being horribly, horribly inefficient. :p

I just mean that lets say after completing level 24 you are at 500,000 EXP total (for arguments sake), the next level up would be 686,781, not the difference between the two as they are now.

I haven't noticed that and i've looked closely.Everytime i level up the XP carries over.It does the same with B-Spec.

Sometimes it may be hard to notice first thing, but once you complete the next race you'll see it was carried over.

That's not what happens though I needed like 75k to go to level 28 and earned like 175k so now bar bar shows level 28 with about 100k exp towards level 29

Hahah, I didn't say it isn't terribly long, just that the gap wouldn't change :). I agree they are too long though, well actually if there were more events then they wouldn't be too long at all. Still having a lot of fun though.

Another thing Forza 3 did far better than GT5 is the XP/leveling system.

I don't think they are necessary features of a driving game at all, but at least the Forza one never feels like any kind of grind.

XP and leveling in GT5 is nothing but an artificial time sink designed to make the game last longer. It's bad game design to do it this way and it really hurts my enjoyment of the game.

If you want me to play the game for many hours then give me lots of interesting and challenging events to complete, don't artificially restrict what I can and cannot do with a level system.

game makers are missing some key points here, specially in the PS3: their public is getting older.

there's a reason why call of duty campaigns are so short: some people get really frustrated in not finishing a game, simply because it takes too long. call of duty is perfect in that sense, the offline campaign is like 8 hours long. to me, it's pretty rewarding finishing a game. simply because i cant play a 80 hours game to the end, it's too much.

when i first got into GT, i was much younger. had more free time. now i'm older, i have job, wife, i travel... and most people in my age have children as well. (me and my wife decided not sharing the ps3 with another person. no kids for us)

i wish game makers take that into account, when you make an overly long game, you end up pissing off loyal but older clients. for GT, i'll probably unlock the redbull somewhere around 2047.

i understand some people enjoy playing the same game forever. not me. i wish they had some option like F1 2010: do you want a long career or a short career? how many laps? etc. let people choose what suits them best.

PS: the A.I is atrocious. you either race alone or if you race with some balance they end up spinning you. and after that, they blindly hit you. there's absolutely no excuse for that and i hope they fix it.

Developers will probably eventually add a whole bunch of additional challenging events with tighter restrictions. But most of all seems kind of retarded how little money endurance events either A or B-spec events pay in relevance to time/money ratio

You're looking at it backwards. Instead of level 25 being 40,858 experience, you have to go from 145,923 for level 24 to, essentially, 332,704 (145,923+186,781). Otherwise everyone would start freaking out* that they need twelvety billion experience to reach level 40 even through they already have eleventy point five billion. That and the progress bar would appear to hardly move when you're at the upper experience levels if it kept your total gained divided by the total required.

*Or people will just freak out regardless. :p

I think the game needed more Events. At least one event for each manufacturer, Better prize cars (premium cars) and a bit more credits per race.

I'm afraid that I have to agree with this.:(

It does seem an artificial time sink.👎

The XP leveling system does seem poorly thought out. I think the problem we are having is that for the most part, we can beat the early races without much of a struggle once we have an appropriate car. We therefore want to try the higher level races since we expect that they will be harder and more of a challenge. However, we then find that the XP leveling system prevents us from racing in the next higher event.:grumpy: So we are forced to repeat and repeat races that we have already beaten, just to earn more XP pts to get to the next event.:grumpy:

In my opinion, the problem is two-fold:

1) Most of the early races are too easy

2) The XP point differential between the levels is too great

The first problem could be solved with more events, (YES PLEASE!), or maybe HP restrictions on the individual events to prevent us from using cars that monster the events.

The second problem could be solved with a simple adjustment to the XP level system. For example, since we earn approximately 7900 XP pts for completing all the Beginner Series races, then 7900 points should be the point at which level 5 would get unlocked. And since we can earn approximately 13000 XP points for completing all the Amateur Series races, then 20900 points should be the point at which level 10 would get unlocked. And since we earn approximately 30100 XP pts for completing all the Professional Series, then 51000 XP points should be the point at which level 15 would get unlocked. And since we earn approximately 100000 XP pts for completing all the Expert Series, then 151000 XP points should be the point at which level 20 would get unlocked, etc.

A further wrinkle that I would like to see in the XP point system is that the amount of XP pts earned in a race would depend upon how strong your car is. Winning a Beginner Series race with the Minolta Toyota should not earn you the same amount of XP points as beating the same race with Daihatsu Midget D-Type.

Respectfully,

^ See, GTsail used 5 minutes to think of a better system than the PD design staff could think of in 5 years. PD needs to hire GTsail for GT6

Before the apologists take over the thread: it's possible to like the game and enjoy the racing, while at the same time having the opinion that the GT5 "economy" is fubar ;)

GTsail has it down pact I must say. I race with "lesser" cars in events in order to challenge myself more.

However, about the OP. Hasn't GT always been about grinding? At least, I find/found it that way...

How is that even an argument though? Video games move on, improve!
Standards for how much genuine tedium are involved in order to assure a game's longevity change.

I just hope that future GT games won’t
keep this rubbish “XP Points" thing.💡
