There was this christian death metal band called Mortification which, although sung about the bible and such, you really couldn't understand what they were saying... a lot like Corpse's voice. I do't know if they're still around; they used to be good, but mroe of the same IMO.

I've just been listening to Samael and Dark Mirror ov Tragedy(no, that's not a typo) and came to a conclusion: screaming is really annoying.

Oh well, back to my drum & bass

I like Extol. They're like the Christian Killswitch Engage.

I'll never be allowed back in this thread now.

*EDIT - And Norma Jean are a Christian band, I didn't know that, they're pretty awesome.

uh oh

I have go go confess to almighty Lord Satan

Hey, Looking for some reccomendations here. I like the band Trivium, and was wondering if anyone knows bands that would be similar. I've already been reccomended Killswitch Engage, and I like them too so. Mainly, just looking for non-high pitched screaming and harmonious choruses. Oh, and guitar solos ;)

Try Shadows Fall, they are of a somewhat similar style, maybe a little more thrash and a little less matalcore. Out of Trivium, KE, and Shadows Fall I'd have to say I enjoy Shadows fall the most for sure. They did a great cover of Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd that you might want to check out 👍

Which Samael album was that?

Damn. I was hoping that you wouldn't say that...
I like Samael and I particulary love Passage. :indiff:

Sounds like you're a metalcore fan.

Try All That Remains, Still Remains and As I Lay Dying. I'd recommend Unearth and God Forbid too, but they don't dabble in harmony much.

possibly also try Avenged Sevenfold, a orugh guess but im betting the solos are one factor why you liek Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold have some amazing leads, there latest album has no screaming (City of Evil), where as there previous album, Waking the Fallen was a mix of screaming and singing, most the screaming is kind of high pitches so you may only liek City of Evil, and cetain tracks from Waknig the Fallen, possibly "I Wont See You Tonight Part One" & "And All Things Will End" might be worth a listen if you cant put up with the screams

Thanks a lot guys, I'll check them out. I got a bunch of Sevenfold the other day, but have yet to listen to it. And definately the fact that the singer was trained by Axl Rose's voice coach after having surgery because he screamed so much. My friend has raved about Shadows Fall but i've never really listened to them. Also, any bands similar to Trivium, with just singing? it may be a long shot, but it's worth asking. Well, more like metal in general with only singing.

I doubt it. Trivium are metalcore and the generic metalcore formula is scream some versus and then force a melodic chorus in. Still Remains are probably the most less-screamy metalcore band I know, but they still follow the basic formula. I recommended them before. 👍

Trivium is Metalcore. One of the key components of the Metalcore genre is screaming. With that in mind, you're almost never going to find a Metalcore band like it.

However, you should probably look at some every day Hard Rock, which is a little more heavier than the norm. Either that, or there's always the heavier side of Emo, as Trivium do seem to have Emo-tendencies during the melodic-singing sections of their songs.

I'm not about to give Emo recommendations, however. :p

I recommend grabbing the Roadrunner Records All-Stars album, however, as it features Matt Heafy (Trivium's lead singer) in a lot of the songs, and is what you're after. You might also like some Machine Head.

Secretly, though, Jimmy Enslashay is an emo-fan extraordinare. He won't give any recommendations because he likes all emo bands the same. Except he won't call them "emo", but more like "aemo".

Anyway, I'll find out which bands are similar to Trivium. Have you tried Atreyu?

He knows exactly which emo bands are heavier than others, his ex-girlfriend was an emo fan. ;)

Ryan, you might like Bullet for My Valentine, Funeral for a Friend or Story of the Year. If this is the kind of stuff you want then I can recommend heaps more.

Cold and SOiL are pretty good, but more like Hard Rock, rather than emo or metalcore.

A better idea would be to get the Best Of album, entitled Bestbreeder From 1997 to 2000. Personally, I'm not a fan of Children of Bodom, as I think they overuse the keyboards.

Let's not turn this into an Emo discussion.

They were the two bands in my head predominantly.

So, basically Burnout 3's soundtrack. :P

If some Children Of Bodom are here, can yall give me some titles of the best songs of them ??? :)

Children of Decadence
Every Time I Die
Sixpounder
In Your Face
Lake Bodom
Needled 24/7
Opps! I Did It Again (yes, they did a cover of a Britney Spears song)

Follow The Reaper is their best album.

I haven't heard the others, but SOTY is one of those bands i can't deal with too much of. Everyone else though, i'll heed your reccomendations. Thanks a lot.

Also, another reccomendation question while i'm at it. Dream Theater, if they are considered metal ( not sure why they wouldn't be) are amazing, one of my favorite bands. Anyone know of bands that utilize keyboards and the "prog" style with little to no screaming? I'm just trying to expand my musical horizons here.

And since I guess not many people know about DT: Check them out. Now. They are amazing. Four Berklee School of Music graduates come together to make the essential prog-metal band. Absolutely incredible solos on every instrument.

Hehe, I still think you'll enjoy Bullet For My Valentine though, their music sounds like lots of metalcore bands but they rarely scream. Also, if you check out "All The Rage" by Funeral For A Friend. SOTY don't sound like those two bands, honest! ;)

Metal bands that use keyboards? You could try Angra, their latest album called "Temple Of Shadows" has some Prog stuff, DT like. There's also Symphony X, Rhapsody, Shamaan...

Check out Gordian Knot, which is very prog but more towards the jazz part. Of course, classic prog like Rush, Pink Floyd and King Crismon. Heavier metal prog would be bands like Coprofago, Death and Pestilence. Ummm... if you like the jazzy side of prog, check out Tribal Tech and Bela Fleck & The Flecktones.

I was talking about prog metal the other day with Jimmy, but now I can't remember most of the bands we mentioned.

That'd be where you're wrong, as I think most of us here know about Dream Theater. They're probably one of my favourite metal bands to date.

Despite the fact that you want bands that don't scream, I'll make a suggestion, anyhow. Skyfire, particularly the album Spectral is worth a listen. Very Children of Bodom-esque. Give it a listen.

It's probably worth it checking out Evergrey, too. Maybe even Alchemist, which are a pretty big Australian band in the metal scene.
