The small touches in this game are remarkable.

For me, it's the way you can see miles into the distance. I was watching a video of one of the Eiger Nordward rally stages on YouTube - the long one - and at some points, you can see the opposite end of the circuit. Polyphony clearly put a lot of work into this stage.

yeah they did the scale of that stage is amazing. you really feel like your on a mountain

I was impressed when I was going around Nurburgring online at night, and noticed how eery the track looked when I looked behind... the tail lights light up the environment a little, moreso when you tap the brakes.

Also, the engines firing up and idling when you change car.

Going round the 'ring, it stopped raining after about 10 mins, then 15 mins I was on the west side and it was raining there, but as I went more east, the rain died down!

GT gives me a feeling that no other game can give :) It is hard to describe....GT does not feel like a game to me. Game is consumable but GT5 is enjoyable :)

I can't believe the amount of care that went into some of the little details in this game.
I was using photomode on my F40 on the Eiger racetrack and noticed that the gearstick is in the postion of whatever the cars gear is in.
Fantastic.
Also off-topic, loving the online portion of GT5, racing around the top gear track in freedrive with other drivers really does ffel like a club meet.
I really hope sony gives PD the time and funds to finely tune this game.
Give us the grand canyon rall track please.

The F40 also has writing on the Pop-up headlight glass, I thought that was awesome.

Also, the blue light that shows on the dashboard when you put your headlights on full beam is neat, along with the handbrake light, when I noticed this I was like 'Sweeeeeeeet :dopey:'. Easily pleased lol.

I was playing around with photomode with my f40. I zoomed right in on the lights where you could see the screws holding the indicator lenses on. You can even see the rivets that are holding some of the panels on all rendered perfectly. I didn't have the headlights on though so I didn't see the stamp on the glass I will have a look now though. I can believe that it took six months to make one premium car now that I have seen how much detail that has gone into them.

I agree that GT5 does the detail very well (as in all other GT games), but one thing I noticed is that if I plant myself on the AI's rear bumper and flash my high beams on and off I don't see anything reflected on the other car's bumper.

As small thing that doesn't bother me, but it would be cool to see it in a future update!💡

The modelling of the premiums is just exquisite, and yeah I was really super impressed when I noticed that the gear stick was ACTUALLY MOVING. I've always hated how other games just have the hand make a vague gesture in the general direction of a totally static gear stick, and I'm not being sarcastic, I 100% mean that, it's really bugged me in the past.

Recently I was replaying a lap on Monza and noticed there was detailed writing on a board that points backwards... and is only visible on the replays from one particular camera angle.

I also like the lakes and stuff that you can't see while driving -- but wish you could see them while driving. I know this isn't Burnout or NFS or Outrun or Rad Racer, but some a cruise down a nice coast road or something seems like it would look amazing.

All the tents on the 'ring where's a more interesting race on, versus a 'track day' was pretty neat too. I was very confused because it was like a whole 'nother track.

The details are beautiful, its just a shame they didn't put the same amount of effort into other areas like the AI system.

If you could take the amount of detail in GT5 and spread it evenly across all aspects of the game, it would be the best game ever made. Given the level of detail found in the car models etc, everything would still look amazing and the game would feel much more polished.

Or they could just release a patch for the AI instead of wasting time developing gimmicky addon deatures

Another minor detail:

If you've watched replays on the High Speed Ring, on the front strait as the replay camera is laying in the grass, the grass moves as the cars pass by.

Just those little things make me smile. :D

Lol do people think we are playing on PS9 ? There is actually a limit to the RAM and Processor inside your ps3, it's not a magic black box that can do whatever P.D or game developers want.
The have to make the best game possible within the confines of that systems specs
Did you even see that photo of the F40 above^ ? For christ's sake, you can see 'Made in Germany' written on the plastic of the headlight lens !!! It is really incredible the small details in this game, Cockpit view + no HUD = driving heaven.

Appreciate it for what it is, not what you want it to be.

That's exactly my point. The detail is incredible, but in order to work within the confines of the PS3 hardware they could have reduced the detail of the premium models ever so slightly and put a little bit more effort into, say, the standard models.

Or not model high/low beam (which is pointless anyway) and spend a bit longer refining the AI model.

I appreciate the detail but at times it seems a bit diluted by the overall finish of the game. That said I can't wait to get my new HD tv and put some solid hours into photo mode

EDIT: And just to clarify my last post, I didn't mean they should have applied the same level of detail to the entire game (which would be impossible), but rather sacrifice detail in some areas in order to build a more polished game overall. Some of these details you only ever see in photo mode if you look really hard, and yet a poorly modelled standard car in a race full or premiums sticks out like a sore thumb

And yet they got the S2K rev meter wrong.:ouch:

That, and your million-dollar McLaren F1 has a busted tach that doesn't move at all...

And the Miata has some ugly, raggedy-a**ed unfinished wheel cutouts on the body.

When PD do it right, they nail it, but sometimes you can really feel (and see) the cost-cutting. Anyone who's watched the blocky, pixelated roostertail spray in a rain race knows what I'm talking about.

Not to start another premiums vs standard debate, but all the standards are ports from previous games with a potential one or two originals. If they put any work at all into them, they'd likely have been premiums to begin with.

They had three options with standard models:

Not include them.
Include raw ports (done).
Or update liveries in high res on the race cars (needed)

I have no problem with the standard models. Even the ones from GT3 still look relatively decent compared to some other games out there. Its just the low-res liveries on the race cars that are bothersome.

One minor gripe though, the LM S2K is a great car to drive, but having different numbers all over it makes it look a bit.....wrong.

when you drive by some of the fans next to the track, you can see them actually turn their heads as your car goes by

OMG. Didnt know it was possible. 👍👍👍

Last time I checked My McLaren F1's Tach worked as well as the tach on my 45& Italia.

The needle on the oil pressure gauge in the 91' Miata drops alot when you lift the trottle. A known problem for Miata's.

Not a problem... oil pressure is directly related to rpms.

That is an extremely cool touch, though. That's one of the first things that caught my eye when I first drove a Miata years ago... never thought to look at it in the game.

Small touches are remarkable but the game has basic and fatal big no-touches in many areas (jump & land physics, invisible walls, AI, engine sounds, overcomplicated user interface, 80% cars from GT4, whole A-Spec is one big parody of racing career). They are just trying to include all the world into game with restricted resources and the solution feels shoddy in many ways.

GT TV is pretty cool.
I know it's not exactly part of the 'game' but it does show that PD/Kaz want us to appreciate cars and racing and not just drive around like we're at the arcade on some two-bob arcade racer.
