I think I shall join you tonight, it will probably be my last opportunity to have a drive with all of you for a few weeks.
 
so my 2% case happened and i'll be able to race on sunday

practice tonight sounds good as well

Looked that up and Wikipedia just caused my brain to fry, lasers and cooling? How? Microkelvins?...just ...so many questions and not enough brain power to understand.
 
Great practice in the 15 lappers tonight. Autumn ring eats tyres as we found out. This may play a big part in tyre strategy come Sunday's race. There may even be drivers opting for a 3 stopper here, and if this is the case, a reminder of the tyre regs is in order.

The Sunday Cup tyre regulations.

1.

In season 3 of The Sunday Cup we will use the Sports tyres for the first 6 races. Hard, Medium and Soft. The final 2 races we will use Sports soft and Racing hard tyres. The prime tyre will be the faster of the 2 available for each race. You must use both the prime tyre and the option tyre in each race. This means that drivers are going to have to be very careful with pit stops, and must remember to change the tyres when pitting.

2.

There will be a 25% race distance minimum limit to the amount of laps that you use the option tyres for. The minimum laps for option tyres for each race can be found in the race calender.

3.

You may only use a maximum of 2 sets of the prime tyre in any race.

4.

You must start the race on the tyre used to set your fastest qualifying time.

Your car must have a current MOT....:sly:

There we are, 2 sets of the prime are the max, so if anyone is planning a 3 stopper, then 2 sets of the option will have to be used.:scared::nervous::sick:

Pretty much. Full price ~£55, but deals can be had. Honda would have charged me £500+ just for parts and the test. I got it all done for a little over £100. :-D

Well temperature is just a measure of how much stuff moves around basically. Microkelvin temperatures mean that stuff is almost at halt (trapped). Explaining how the actual cooling takes place requires a thorough knowledge of atomic structure. But the basic concept is that a magnet deforms the structure in a way that atoms counter propagating to the laser beam will absorb light and emit it in arbitrary directions. This causes a small but significant Impulse change on the atom. Do that with lasers in 6 different directions and you end up wit lots of atoms caught in the place where the laser beams cross. My masters thesis is on a cooling process which can cool roughly 100 degrees in a few milliseconds, but not quite as low as a magneto optical trap can...

Fun stuff starts to happen when you cool gas this quick, for example it is cold enough that is should be liquid, but since it cooled so fast everything is still gaseous. This gas starts to have funny and unintuitive properties.
 
MOT for me. I already had my California Smog test witch cost me $60! More if I would not have passed. That should qualify me for Sunday right??

Sort of, the opposite to a microwave oven? Instead of exciting the atom you're damping it.

Fun stuff starts to happen when you cool gas this quick, for example it is cold enough that is should be liquid, but since it cooled so fast everything is still gaseous. This gas starts to have funny and unintuitive properties.

A microwave oven actually only spins water molecules around ^^ That's why there is a special defrost setting, because ice is structured water and thus is very hard to rotate in its crystal configuration. Its more like light pushing a single atom to a stop.

No the 4th elemental state is Bose-Einstein condensation (meaning every particle in the ensemble does exactly the same thing at the same time, thus making individual identification of the single particles impossible)

Think of it as superfluidity on gases. This phenomenon in gases hasn't been explored all that much, so all unknown territory.

Yes mate. There is room for you. Gonna do one more practice tonight at 8.00pm. We are on the race 3 specs. 374 bhp and 1300 kgs.

Well there was and still is a lot that can be trimmed off, but like you say it's a long race and a lot can happen.
