> Talk about TVs
As part of the PC monitor master race, I laugh at the fact that you primitive peoples insist on defining monitor resolution by the y-axis only, and look down upon your silly "p" and "i".
*twirls moustache*
But seriously now; I have an office-grade Dell 1280*1024 LCD monitor from years ago, and it's more than good enough for watching ponies. That's what I've got and I'm happy with it, and what's "better" isn't enough of an improvement over what I've already got to warrant spending any money on it. Additionally, I've always personally preferred LCD to Plasma, but your preferences in the characteristics of the image and what you're going to use the TV itself for are entirely subjective matters in themselves, and there's no real "right" or "wrong" answer in the whole debate.
Also: most "720p" TVs aren't true 1280*720 anyway; they're almost always something above that, like 1366*768 or 1600*900. Almost every time I've ever tried connecting a PC to such a television, (even via an interface as simple as VGA) I've been able to access the extra pixel space and display a higher-resolution image than what one would call "720p". And because you get better image quality from downscaling a video file than you get from upscaling, you're better off with the 1080p version in this instance.
And finally, interlacing is bunk; iTunes rips are progressive scan as nature intended, and all the better for it. They're also bereft of the ad-break fade-outs, watermarks and dynamic range compression (a sound thing) that plagues the TV versions. Download a colour-corrected 1080p raw rip from
Ponyship and you also get the 5.1-channel audio - but if you can live with a little bit of blocky-ness and a stereo-only soundtrack, the YouTube versions will suffice.
Argument over, nopony wins.
And you now have no excuse to not use the vastly superior iTunes rips. Thank me later.
