August 11th: My vacation got extended till tomorrow. I'm totally okay with this. I've done a bit of work, and should finish 15 within a few days of returning. As much as I hate to admit it, summer is coming to an end, and if I haven't finished TNTNE by the time I get back to school, I'm sure the chapters will come much faster once I'm no longer distracted by friends 24/7

I'll probably check out part 2 in a bit. I just finished reading that Michael Bay satire-fic (The Horn of Destiny), and aside from it being one of the funniest fics I've read in recent weeks, it also contains one particularly brilliant line from Fluttershy:

I'm reading one last quest currently, what do you guys think about it? I like it, I'll wait till later to discuss it though.

I finally sat down and read it. One Last Quest is a truly brilliant story. I knew it would be, because Vanner wrote it, but I wasn't prepared for how good it really was.

The only thing keeping it from being an absolutely must-read for everyone is of being about a bunch of background Ponies (which would obviously make some people pause before reading). Which is a truly tragic irony, because that is the only way that the story could work. A real shame, because over the course of this story you really got me to care for these characters. I didn't even know who Medley was before this story, and I was still worried for her.

For instance, turning Pokey Pierce from "balloon popping douchebag" to "the Pony equivalent of the guy Steven Seagal played in Under Siege" (who happens to be Trixie's brother, no less) and managing to make it completely work. No snickering. No silliness. It sells it, and it works. Plus, he basically beats the crap out of Prince Douche twice.


The ending is something that I imagined would be pretty controversial, and that seems to be true based on the comments page, but it works really well, I think.


Its not perfect, and occasionally there are some screw-ups that are quite distracting (keep in mind that I read the current PDF version hosted by MaximilianVeers, and Vanner said he is working on a "fixed" one), but it seemed like every time something came up that I noticed, something awesome would happen to make me forget.

Ok, now as promised:

I've got a few comments about the races, but I won't be able to actually mention them until I get home tonight, so see you then.

Its gonna be hard to phrase this without sounding like an ass (and I probably won't succeed), but Jonesy and Dylanso1: You guys gotta be more aggressive!

Look through the gallery. Any of the photos in there, if you can spot my car (its usually the one in front, but that's not my point), within a few feet will be Weigert's (and, when he doesn't pick something weird, MintBerryCrunch's); battling it out for whatever position I'm currently in. Its that kind of stuff that leads to hectic, heart-attack inducing racing. Stuff like this:

Where Wiegert accidentally slid the rear of his car into mine, forcing me to make a split-second decision of jumping the hill and hoping I'd save it on the other side or forcing the car back onto the racing line and probably taking both of us out.




I'm not saying go around hitting everybody, but don't go out of your way to give someone room just because they are taking a bigger risk than you. There's no reason for you to saddle their risks while they reap the rewards. The La Sarthe race is a good example. I tried to force a Countach into a decidedly just-barely-Countach-shaped hole, and one of you (whoever was driving the Gallardo) held your ground. The end result was me going off into the sand because I didn't quite judge your position correctly.

The Monza race was kind of a blowout because the Shelby was far faster than I thought it would be, but when I spun out at Suzuka I expected to have to do a hard-fought battle to get back to the front. And while I worked hard to catch back up, I was kind of surprised that both of you basically drove off of the track to give me enough space to pass, before I was really even close enough to attempt a pass in the first place (to the extent that I originally thought that I had hit both of you on accident until I watched the replay).


You gotta stand firm.

^What he said about the whole aggressiveness thing. I've got a friend that's new to Forza and he's actually got that same problem. You shouldn't block but you should at least maintain you're line. Unless the car behind you far outclasses you there's no reason to just give in.

Wish I could've been there, but it looks like I'll also be missing next weeks .

That 1 is in the incorrect place but no I like too drive using Finesse its just my driving style and for the more powerful cars (Ahemm... Gallardo) you really need finesse unless you want to end up in the sand!

I own This and that represents what I can do in GT using my Finesse (well the newer tunes do )!

I tried to force a Countach into a decidedly just-barely-Countach-shaped hole, and one of you (whoever was driving the Gallardo) held your ground. The end result was me going off into the sand because I didn't quite judge your position correctly.

Believe me, I could be way more aggressive, but driving carefully online has always been something I've done. Offline, I'm a lot more aggressive. I'll try to up my game next week.

Pinkie's left leg has 3 joints.....I find this interesting....she appears to be some kind of....spider/pony hybrid in the first frame....and some kind of praying mantis/pony hybrid in the last panel.

First day on the job, had to sit through a 6 hour induction that was aimed more at the marketing team rather than the team I'm working in (web design), which almost resulted in me falling asleep. I'm looking foward to getting on with whatever it is I'm doing tomorrow though.


Anyway, on topic:

You know what the peculiar thing is? I always try to be more cautious when racing online, but judging by the 2 nail-bitingly close races we had the other day, I'd say I wasn't really successful at driving cautiously. It's probably for the best in all fairness as extremely close races are far more exciting.

I agree with you though, if you want to win, you have to show some aggression. If you hold back, then there's almost no chance of taking the lead, unless the leader fails to keep the car on the track and crashes out.
