Getting back to the subject of the thread, here's a few more impressions based on some play over the weekend....

- The threshold side effect I previously mentioned where you lose accuracy in the top or bottom ~5% of pedal travel still shows up _sometimes_ and at other times does not. The manual states that the pedals are automatically calibrated during use (they don't explain anything beyond that unfortunately), so it may have something to do with that. The side effect is small enough that it doesn't perceptibly affect my driving even if it does happen. You don't have to do anything like push the pedals through their range of travel before/during the race to calibrate or to make them "work" as people have suggested since they have had to do that with their logitech pedals. In any case, moving the pedals through their entire range of travel does not immediately fix this side effect.

- It's gone without saying on this forum, but I will explicitly confirm that the FF strength adjustment on the options menu is effective, despite the fact that the menu screen specifically says "this adjustment is only for this and that logitech wheel." Seems like an oversight to me. After trying the entire range, I have to say the adjustment increments are quite granular, much more so than I expected, even at 1 the steering feels relatively heavy. I prefer to play on 2 / 10 right now. You can still feel all of the details of the forces at these low settings. Also, the FF deadzone side effect I explained previously is much less noticeable at the lowest settings.

- Previous to this I played exclusively on the controller, with the SLS AMG I was initially 10 seconds slower on a nurburgring lap. It took me about 4-5 laps with the wheel to improve my controller time.

- I've now mounted the wheel into a new position, still not ideal as I am just using household objects right now. In this new position with my hands at 9-3, the wheel surface directly under my thumbs toward the inside of the wheel (the rubber portion around the spokes) is starting to irritate me a little after a few races. This is because at that point of the wheel the contours are less rounded, and the metal spoke is directly under the rubber too, making it feel harder and sharper than any other surface of the wheel your hand comes in contact with. For reference, in this position the top of the wheel is within an inch (vertically) of the top of my shoulder and I'm sitting upright. I'm curious if anybody else who has the wheel has felt this way.

- Sorry Mr. Latte I don't have any other games to test the wheel on.

Hey guys,
someone asked me to make a rally video with the t500 to see the ff... So I made a video.

👍 looks good

1 question, I noticed the brake pedal still has quite a long travel, did you add the extra piece that comes with the pedals to make it harder, or is that how it is out of the box ?

No I didn't yet. It's my first time ever playing with a wheel. First I want to get used to it. As soon as I'll feel really comfortable I'll trying mods (first will be the included braking mod)

Would one of you lucky t500 owners kindly check how much the wheel/pedals weigh when boxed up?

I will be moving overseas in a few months and I am considering shippng this bad boy over with me.

Ta!

Hey guys,
someone asked me to make a rally video with the t500 to see the ff... So I made a video. Quality could be better (E500D laying on a chair), driving for sure also. It's not a video of how good I am, so please no bashing.

TV seems to be very bright in the video so you cannont see everything. Getting better at the end, where the challenge turns to evening. Sry for that. Had no time to build and configure a good video setup.

**PLEASE DO NOT LINK THIS VIDEO WITHOUT ASKING ME. Not everyone has to know how my Socks or living room looks like **

Setup: Thrustmaster T500 RS, Speesmaster 2.0, Gunnar Glasses (<- who cares :) ). All Aids off (except for Abs at 1 and Driving Line (Didn't remember the track as you can see in first try where I totally sucked) )

Thanks for the vid man

Has TM ever announced the production quantity on this? Are we sure it will be available in large quantities in a few months or is that still undecided?

It's not limited production in any way but a mass produced product. Prices of these will get discounted as time goes on. A Ferrari branded version is apparently something of a high possibility in the future.

They referred to the wheel rim being upgradable, although it's not been confirmed that could mean for motorsports wheels or possibly refer to a different wheel rim coming. As a guess maybe an F1 style wheel rim?

I'd love someone to investigate how the cables disconnect from the main wheel body to see if it's a simple plug disconnection or more bother than that.

Ok thanks. I have a large credit from a product I returned to NewEgg a while ago. I am intrigued enough by this wheel that I would likely pick it up if it showed up there. These 2-3 in stock per store I keep hearing about is just odd. Is TM trying to recon the market or something? Why would they just leak out a few wheels to a few outlets?

The power connector looks like a mini din 4, the USB cable is permanently attached to the wheel and is shorter than expected, the pedal connector is the typical phone jack but with an offset clip. They all connect next to each other at the rear of the wheel, above the mounting location.

No mate I meant the internal connections from the wheel rim going into the main wheel housing. If it's s simple thing to unplug or more complicated.

Basically how awkward is it to disconnect the steering wheel?

ok. I'm not quite ready to investigate that but if I do I will let you know.

Oh man your PC really must suck bad if you can't beat UC2 graphics with Crysis or Crysis Warhead. Now I know you're just full of %^&^&$ and all your posts make perfect sense now. Whatever you say the opposite must be true.

Meh, he probably just confuses graphics with art direction which was beautifully done in Uncharted 2 indeed. Don't see why else someone would say such a thing.

He's a bit confused in general so that's probably no suprise.

May I point out that this is a T500 thread though and the whole debate is irrelevant? Someone make a new thread or something.

Thanks for the vid and keep more impressions coming.

Also, please keep the PS3 vs PC pissing match in a different thread. In addition to being way off topic, it's also getting heated and ugly.

papaspurs I would consider carefully before ordering from ASDA they are connected to the hut and have really bad service. Check out other places seen it for £365

As for Iracing or GT5. Personel computers tend to be graphically superior. but you pay for it. I have a fairly powerful computer, but I like to switch on up my console with GT5 without having to think of settings configuration or conflicts and patchs that i need to search for. (Although it seem consoles are increasingly getting the need for too many patches)

Back on topic.. would a "perfect pedal mod" work on the T500 RS?

i wouldn't see why not. they did one for logitech, i am sure they can develop something similar for the T500RS. not sure the one for logitech would work on the T500 though, since there is some wiring specific to the logitech

Depending on how the Perfect Pedal registers the data paths and signals and relays them back to the controller, it's conceivable, but we'll have to wait and see, hopefully they do, I just did a simple foam mod to my Xbox 360 wheels pedal (I bearing modded the wheel w/ Japanese Nachi bearing, holy crap does it feel good! Can't wait to try out the T500 :dopey:) and it's night and day difference. Do you have the T500 wheel yourself, and for that matter, has anyone else tried the T500 and the Real Pedal mod.

Actually anyone else got the same idea as me? bung a perfect pedal on to it, providing it works.

Well, now I know why my Right D-Pad key is iffy and needs to be pressed quite hard.

Some underwaged cheap slave in the far east forgot to put the contact pad on the microswitch ;)

Also I think this may put to bed any dreams of simply nad sturdily "upgrading" the wheel to some real SPACRO, Momo or such like.

Who is it that started that rumour anyway? The TM PR person?

What a load, but hey, crap happens, haha. Great that you took the time to open it up and diagnose the problem, I remember you saying let's hope this isn't the case w/ all of the other aspects to this wheel, especially the motor and electronics, well, here's to hoping that's not the case.

I hope little hick ups like these are just byproducts of it being an initial production run type of thing.

dudes stop with the bickering

RC45, it looks like a simple connector going from the wheel base to the wheel itself (cant get a good look on the phone) Based on that i cant imagine expansion wheels or 3rd party mods taking long once we get a pin out. You said three fasteners to remove it right?

Also, the wheel itself - would you say there's a lot of 'flex' in it?

I may get one if i have enough after buying my car... been eyeing this thread since the announcement

ouch, at least that is an easy diy fix.

other than that how's the wheel after living with it a few days? are the fans/motors annoyingly loud, or ok when you're gaming? is the construction sturdy or cheap plastics?

Looks to me like someone got their wires crossed, perhaps they intend to release their own wheel upgrades which will be an easy swap and someone thought that meant you could swap any wheel but swapping to your own wheel looks to be anything but simple. That sucks.
