In a short time PC sim usage from pro drivers giving comparisons of T500 RS to highend sim wheels will appear.

The question to ask is how will the T500 RS compare to those. At $600 it could be a bargin. Depends if it performs well proving as a wheel to be very accurate and responsive. The pedals will see mods coming I have no doubts of that.

Got mine on the 20th sort of today, it's past midnight.

My quick review of it. Note that I got a gamepod to mount on to.

After unboxing, first thing to do is invert pedals and add foam bits to brake pedals. What I noticed was that the screws and bots felt soft and would shred any time, so had to be super careful.
Removed old G25 from gamepod, and found that no holes fit for it. The pedals where kept in place with a bar of wood at the end to prevent slippage. But it can still pivot upwards. Will need to work something out. The steering wheel doesn't fit any of the holes for the gamepod either, so bolted on the clamp, seems sturdy until I got happy in the game, due to clamping position the wheel base can pivot a little under load, will try to fix this problem too.
In terms of feel of the wheel, it's great, more detail in force feedback so far. Holding it feels okay, felt better in a real car.
Compared to a DFP, it's massive difference, brake pedals has the full range before 100 percent travel. FFB is so much more detailed.
Compared to a G25, the t500's wheel is sure better, I Perfer fixed paddal shifters, and they are nice and big. The t500 are better too, I like the "GT" style, pedals are further apart which is a good thing so far, feels like I got more control over all.

Is it worth the money? Shrug, if you can afford to and GT5 crazy, why not, full support in GT5. There's so many cheaper ones for the more casual players.

Already thinking about replacing the screws, and see if there is a perfect pedal mod for it. I know, for that money you would expect decent screws, me too, oh well never mind I will fix it my self. As for the brake pedal, a perfect pedal is about one third or about half of the cost of the t500 depend on how far the pp is traveling, eg, to uk.

If going by thrustmasters flight sim stuff, I hope to see a few other bits such as a handbrake, some dashboard bits would be good too, such as shift light rev counter, buttons, ect.

you can see pics at OCUK in t500 preview thread

Just saw your pics, NICE setup and audio equipment, too, B&W's are outstanding (I'm an audiophile too myself 👍) I noticed though it looks like you simple turned the pedals over, you can actually unscrew and rotate the pedal *PLATES* themselves to give you the proper and better/more suited angle for inverse pedal positioning.

Just updated the wheel with the new firmware. It actually does install drivers for the wheel on the PC when you do it before the firmware update...so the framework is definitely there for the real drivers...soon?

On a side note, I got my SST shifter. It is a wonderful piece of kit. No issues with CSPs, SST, and G27 setup on any simulation, and I pretty much tested every one in existence:). So my rFactor concern was unfounded.

I also got my wheel yesterday. First thing I did was the firmware update so I can't say what difference it makes.

Only got about 1-2 hours of playtime in yesterday. First impression is a bit mixed. Oddly, it felt like the FFB is actually pretty tame compared to my G25. But I believe that the lack of center fish-tailing might responsible for that. As we all know the G25 is less than ideal in that department, needing way more effort to keep a car straight, or going smooth out of a corner. This needed effort could be perceived as more agressive or even more responsive (less moving does more kind of feeling). The T500 seems like it has more play in the center, but I doubt that is actually true and just what I feel now because the wheel acts as smooth in the center as outside of it.

Driving feels real nice in general though. Driving over curbs give a nice deep "punch" on the wheel, again almost feeling less agressive than the G25 but sexier.

Wheel rim material is less than stellar. Functional for sure, as it has great grip, just doesn't quite feel like leather but it's not much of an issue.

Compatibility with the Wheelstand Pro is not really there. After quite some fiddling I was able to attach the wheel to the metal plate using the clamps. But that plate is a bit too small and I needed to try different positions to get the wheel not to tilt around, or rotate up or down while driving. Eventually I'll probably look into drilling new holes in that plate to attach it without the clamp. Weight of the wheel, on the other hand, seems to be no issue for the stand and it holds up well while driving without much wobbling or moving. Only with the weight of the pedals on the front of course.

Pedals don't fit very well on the stand either. It's hard to get the thing to stand level on those 2 bars. Lots of fidding needed to get it to an acceptable position, and it's not fixed down in any way right now. The weight of the pedals helps keeping them in place, but if I were to install the brake mod I might have to think of something to really attach them to the stand.

Pedals feel nice compared to G25. I love how they don't make a loud "clank" sound when you push them down fully, it's a more soft sound and feel and that feels great. Only tried in F1 position so far.

Wheel fan is pretty loud to my ears. At the volume I play in my apartment it's quite noticable. Also it didn't seem to go off when I wasn't driving, like in the G5 menus or such. It's a minor complaint though, get used to it. Besides, driving a real racing car is noisy as hell too so what gives.

All I can say for now. No doubt the wheel will quickly grow on me as I get more time with it, as some here have reported. So more later.

@Gigantoad,
I would like to see some pic's of it on the Wheelstand pro. Maybe you could arrange that?

Can the rear bar of the Wheelstand hold the base of the pedals a bit? In not pushing it of the stand i mean.

MisterStatic,
Where is the firmware update performed??
Is this actually initiated from the PS3, I am curious, I have updated firmware on products, but I have always used the PC for that kind of stuff.

No, it can only be done on a Windows PC. And, when I did it using my laptop, it installed T500 PC drivers before doing the firmware update.

Ok,
Thanks, I thought that may be the case, that is a little weird that a Flagship GT5/PS3 product needs to be managed on the PC.

I was just thinking that it is possible that someone may have a PS3 but not a computer, but I guess it is assumed that everyone has a computer today!

So here's what i got when i contacted Thrustmaster about why the distributors listed dont have any/or sufficient quantity of their product:

Your message:

When will this wheel be available on amazon.com (united states) i have been waiting since jan. 5th along with many others from GTPLANET.NET and GT5 and we have no announcement as to when your distributors especially amazon.com (u.s.) will get your product. I will keep waiting but the community NEEDS to hear something soon because others might not wait any longer!

Thank You So Much Keep Up The Hard Work,

Thank you for your interest in Thrustmaster products!

For this information you please contact Amazon directly. They are the only ones able to tell you when the T500 RS will be available for purchase on their website.

For any other query please do not hesitate to contact us.

Your message:

I did contact them and nobody knows anything about it. Since your website has amazon listed as one of the main distributors for the t500 rs and its availability on January 5th why is it that they have never heard anything about this product and its almost the end of January?

Thank you

Unfortunately there have been some issues with the distribution that is still in progress. The wheel will be available in a short while.

I really think it would be better for Thrustmaster's PR to be up front and public about what is going on with the distribution instead of playing this thinly veiled damage control game.

I think a lot of people would be happier about the company if they gave a more concrete date about availability with distributors like amazon. If they know it won't be widely available until Feb.xx for example, they should really just say so. "The wheel will be available in a short while" is not helpful to potential customers.

As more and more people are getting hold of these, is there any chance someone could post a drift video? Even if it's just an attempt, I'd like to see how the wheel spins when you break traction.

Perhpas the money men at Thrustmaster told the product men they would only apporve a larger second produciton run if the 1st run 100% sold. Can't say I would blame them - January of a year following an economic downturn is not the best time ot be caught with expensive product stuck in the channel...

Yep. And, I think that it was a huge mistake in the first place to brand it GT and PS3. And then they don't launch along side the product...oops. With GT5 enthusiasm and sales declining sharply, I would want to get off that boat as soon as possible.

They need to put some serious marketing muscle behind PC compatibility now and get those drivers out. With several high profile PC sim releases this year, they may be able to recover.

But with a box sitting in stores all glazed with PS3 and GT, I think they are in trouble. It is not going to sell on store shelves. It is a great wheel but I am afraid the only popularity will be with a niche group of PC racers after the few GT hardcores willing to shell out that kind of dough are finished. The said money men will not like that idea at all.

Also, if I owned a TM, Fanatec, or Logitech, I would be banging down doors in Redmond trying to synchronize the release of something like the T500 for Forza 4 on release day and with official Games For Windows logo or something silly like that....but THAT would sell.

I'm not surprised that they don't market to the PC crowd before the PS3/GT5 crows... the GT5 crowd is much much larger, and as it's typically older male gamers they do have the excess scratch to drop on an expensive wheel like this... although the PC user is what's gonna keep this thing selling once GT5 hits the bargain bin. It is silly they didn't have it out at release tho, as I'll admit that I probably would have bit, even at the high price, in that first week of GT5 when I NEEDED to replace my DFP... and I'm sure there were others like me. But Logitech got my money again!

For those interested in upgrading the fastner hardware:

Pedal plates : M4 .70 30mm Flathead Socket Cap Screw, 6 needed - 70c each
Diamond Tread : M3 .50 12mm Flathead Socket Cap Screw, 4 needed - 25c each
Brake Mod : M3 .50 8mm Socket Head Cap Screw, 4 needed - 25c each
Main Floor Assembly cover : M3 .50 6mm Flathead Machine Screw, 16 needed - 23c each

I got black oxide Class 10.9's from Sears.

I dont understand what the numbers after the screw type means. I would guess the third number is the length?
Actually I might.. thread pitch?

I do not own a windows PC, Apple only here.

Right I have just ordered about 400 screws off ebay.co.uk thanks to RC45 specs.
Also in 10.9 black. :D
I may offer the spares as a set to upgrade the pedals on ebay or something as I will have too many.

Got my new wheel today after my first wheel was broken cause transportation damage..
Installed on the Speedmaster V2.0, here are some pictures.

Thrustmaster T500 RS pictures

I really love the wheel. I only have one problem with the calibration.. It calibrates not 100% in the center.. the wheel calibrates 5-10 degrees to the left.. Looks strange when the wheel is on the cockpit and not centered but I cant feel these degrees during a race.. Contacted technichal support to look if this is a problem or if its normal.. Firmware update to 132 is done..

The wheel is really big (as seen in the pictures). Very smooth and strong FFB. Driving the X2010 at the Nordschleife with FFB 10 is so hard to drive.. after one lap you can go under the shower. :D
Compared to the gt3 rs v2 and the g27 this is actually the best wheel of them. I would say 3 x better than the g27 and 1,5 x better than the Fanatec.

I use the pedals in GT Style and I think they are great. Before this I had the gt3 rs v2 with clubsports and the clubsports are better, yes, but not much better.. I like this pedals in GT Mode.. Feels really like driving a real car..
Pedals are very high so I had to make holes in the plate to fit with my speedmaster V2.0 but I think it looks quite good :)
I dont use the realistic brake mod.. I love the brake feeling without this mod.. With the mod the brake feeling is too hard imo.

The shifter paddles are decent! Needed some hours to know that they dont move with the wheel and its hard in the beginning to shift correct but after some hours this is actually better than the moving paddles imo. Love the klicking sound when you shift :)

All in all I prefer the T500 RS over my GT3 RS V2 even without a H-Shifter and even withoud a load cell brake.. The GT3 RS V2 was selled at ebay ;D I'm happy with the T500 RS :)

I do like the GT config better. I installed the brake mod and actually do like it better as well. It is a little to soft without for me. My opinion of the pedals is increasing but I still love those ClubSports on my PC.

fwiw my wheel seems to set itself to dead center, before and after the firmware update.
