hampus, you really should look at the facts first before you spit complete non sense: The Cell BE in the PS3 is *FAR* more powerful than ANY desktop processor being utilized by PC sims in terms of mathematical calculations which have to do w/ PHYSICS, and FLOP operations, so not only could the PS3 PWN any PC rig, but from what I see has already at least matched iRacing. Get real dude, seriously. Maybe iRacing has some edge somewhere, but do you even read what other people w/ real world experience playing both say? I still say so, even more so more than ever, but I would still really like to try iRacing sometime. No man, I DO agree T500 is much better than other offerings in terms of a technical standpoint. Sorry but you're just wrong on those above "facts" regarding PS3 vs PC, simple as that! BAM! In end, sim racings deep, so if you dig iRacing for w/e reason, that's fine man, no doubt.

Now, let's keep this thread on more on track :dopey: (that was a pun, booya)

.hz, many of us in this thread do have real world experience as well as iRacing and GT5. You seem to ignore many of our opinions.

hz. READ THIS! The PS3 is not god´s gift to the world m8. PC is still above everything else in terms of Gaming.

Uhm - GT5 > certain PC games in certain areas... I originally bought the PS3 Dec 2006 because GTHD download was available... Even rFactor is superior to GT5 in certain respects - visuals NOT being one of them of course.

I cannot wait to have PC drivers to try the T500RS in rFactor.

I dream of driving the rFactor Historex cars at Longford with the T500.... Hurry up with that PC driver Thrustmaster :lol:

rFactor was one of the sims GT5 has been said to have on par physics w/ if not even a more realistic feel, prob. even more so w/ the T500. To anyone thinks I'm wrong go laugh over at simracingtonight, you'll find people who would back up my statements, but I digress, being as GT5 apparently gives you phenomenally realistic experience in many areas, I would be down to try both myself w/ this wheel, but I think it would be a waste of my time, still would be interesting though.

Back to topic, glad to see more and more people here are praising this wheel up and down and that it's living up to the hype!
 
i know without the shifter not being released yet or even having pictures of it etc. you guys think it will be mountable to a playseat with the shifter adapter? cause i got the slider kit and the shifter mount but i cancelled my playseat evo order from amazon so i can jump on the T500 RS when it becomes available and just worry about the rest later...i think playseat is coming out with a new "GT5" setup as well which im not too concerned about, i like the evo setup except on the models that have the bar that goes inbetween your legs:

GT5 doesn't do tyre modelling in any "realistic" way, this alone is what sets it apart from PC titles like LFS and iRacing.
has nothing to do with calculating power of the platform used, but the goal of developers and how accessible they want their games to be.

GT5 can be played with a gamepad.
LFS and iRacing require a steering wheel.

Just a quick comment - to dispel this..

I can play Netkar Pro and LFS fine with a dual stick Logitech pad, infact drifting with a pad is way easier in LFS than with a wheel.
That's how I played LFS for a good year before I got a wheel, on and offline. Hell some people play with a keyboard, or just a mouse! :)
NetKar Pro drives really well with a pad, even the game has a nice steup for the X-Box controller, you just need to tweak input curves in the setup.

Any game that has adjustable input curves will play well with a pad.
Same for Richard Burns Rally. Even iRacing is not too bad with a pad.

In what areas?

Physics - NO.
FF - NO
Graphics - Tie with Iracing imo.
yes photos look good but the graphics during gameplay is far from optimized. Pixelated smoke, jaggy edges, jaggy shadows.

the models themselves are of course beyond anything else but when everything considered i think Iracing looks just as good.


100% ingame shots. What you see is what you get if your computer can handle it. No post processing like GT5 to make things look better.

BTW, instead of being like you and "read" i have actually tried all the games i´m talking about. Unlike you. Therefore you are not relevant in this discussion.

Here´s another pic with some Photoshop, like darkened edges, slight blur etc. but this is also 100% ingame so the model is just like this in game.

Ok guys i just got off the phone with amazon.com customer service and they have no idea why the product isnt listed when you type in thrustmaster t500 rs in the search so the guy told me to type in this: b004j6krd6....needless to say they have 3 in stock and i got mine on order and should be here january 21 - january 26...good luck guys for those of you who want to order it off of amazon.com!!! Just found out why it doesn't show up when you search for thrustmaster t500 rs or thrustmaster or T500 RS....it's because you have to type in exactly Thrustmaster T500 RS GT5 Wheel....WOW what a search engine!?

As much as I love my PS3 and GT5, that comment is just SO inaccurate. I think you could make that statement for some PC setups, and some sims. But as a general statement, that could not be farther from true.

Actually I'll give you one thing...the PC costs a hell of a lot more.

right, like i said you have to type in exactly Thrustmaster T500 RS GT5 Wheel...if you just type in Thrustmaster, or Thrustmaster T500 RS, etc. it wont show up....well, for me anyways and they had 3 but i got one so now there's only 2 ;)...


okay back on topic Sorry for the DERAIL guys just thought it was some semi-important information folks would like to know! :sly:
 
Thrustmaster T500RS is also starting to show up in comparison shopping engines.

I ordered a version from Buy.com for $599.99 that doesn't come up through Buy.com's search but does show up when you use Google Shopping.

This search ought to bring up some options, though frankly those outside of Buy.com are quite shady:

BTW, the root cause of poor merchandising on Amazon is almost always poor marketing at the vendor (i.e. Thrustmaster). I used to work at Amazon and there are some brands which get Amazon and invest time and money in making proper product pages and others who refuse to and end up with lame descriptions, no pictures,etc. From what I can tell so far, Thrustmaster are in the second category.

it's not the "official" rig. where did you get that info? it's just a compatible rig.

Sorry, what I was trying to get at, is that it is offered as officially compatable and Thrustmaster are advertising as so as well. I don't call it compatable when you have to rip covers off that are there to protect the inner workings.

I think I am going to go for the GameRacer in black if I can't get something similar made by a friend of mine for cheaper.

Today's PC's are far superior to the PS3. The day PS3 came out the PS3 was far superior. A GPU of today is far superior to the PC's CPU. The GPU is far superior to todays consumer CPU.

PS3 is 25.6GFLOPs

PC:
CPU 2600 k is 30.4 GFLOPs
GPU 5970 is 4.64 TFLOPs

CPU IBM's Supercomputer is 3 PFLOPs

1000 GFLOPs = 1 TFLOP approx.
1000 TFLOPs = 1 PFLOP approx.

You said the PS3 is better than any PC. It's not true.

iRacing and Live for Speed work with those extra power. That is the reason why you can flip cars in those games and can't flip cars in GT5. The reason why you can't use the head tracking in anything than racing alone, in GT5 is the lack of power. If GT5 has to calculate to that extent the FPS would drop to single digit numbers. They try to maintain a minimum FPS. In rain the smoothness of the game drops to nearly a stuttering motion picture. The reason is lack of frame rate. With a fast pc, the smoothness of the game would drop in smoothness no matter how many calculations it has to do for the game. The reason for it is the minimum frame rate is at least 60 fps. It actually can do over 1000 fps in the game. The PS3 probably mins at 30fps-50fps and can't exceed 50fps due to the power of itself.

Frame rate, or frame frequency, is the frequency (rate) at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called frames.
 
Can we drop the PS3 vs PC banter, I come here to this T500 RS wheel thread for opinions/info on wheels not silly debates about CPU power.

I read that same quote by Thrustmaster, however, I wouldn't put much stock into it. I received an email from Chris Dunagan the Chairman & Managing Director at Obutto after I questioned him about the Thrustmaster updates for the Ozone since I may be interested in buying one and he said they hadn't been contacted by Thrustmaster and they probably wouldn't be making any updates to the rig to accommodate the T500. So that statement by Thrustmaster about collaborating with cockpit makers is just a sales pitch. They may have intentions of working with the cockpit makers but it doesn't mean the cockpit makers will actually update there current rigs.

Just consider that Thrustmaster said this thing would be on sale here on January 5th. They knew the shipments wouldn't be received in time for that release date.
 
Anyone know anything about a Australian release yet? I hope there isn't too much of a mark up.

That Game Racer doesn't look like a bad rig. It looks like a more sturdy version of the Playseat. My only knock on it like the Playseat, is the center post. If I were one that was considering the Playseat design I could see going with the Game Racer instead. Although, cost would have to be considered.
