Appreciate the suggestions. I'm pretty sure it's defective and will exchange it. Looking forward to a fun time at Fry's for that.

try turning on the playstation without controller, use the power on button on the PS3. long shot but maybe worth a try

do you have a friend that has another PS3 to test? maybe the 60g phats don't like it?

if none work then no choice but to return it

RC45,
I want to ask for your honest opinion, I really trust your opinion on this product since I have seen that you point out the good and the bad, you seem very un-biased and that is the kind of objectivity that I am looking for.

As I have stated before, I only play games of the PS3, I don’t own and don’t plan on owning an XBOX and I don’t like playing games on PC’s (maybe because it used to be such a pain in the rectum to boot, use a key disk, not having decent controller, the list goes on and on).

I am finally recovering from Christmas and may have the money to splurge on something for myself, of course it looks like I may not even be able to find the Thrustmaster T500 RS now as availability seems to be an issue.

In any event, I currently have a Logitech G27 which I have never had an issue with it but my question to you is do you think that the Thrustmaster T500 RS is an intelligent purchase/upgrade in my situation, I just keep thinking that once I finish GT5 and Shift 2 when it comes out, there may not be enough for me to use this thing for, I know that you can’t make the decision for me but I would like you opinion.

One user stated that the Thrustmaster T500 RS is 5x better then the G27 would you agree with that??

if you don't have to eat Ramen Noodles and skip the rent payment for the month to pay for it, the T500RS is a "must buy"

That's a greet quote, which will help a lot of people I think. So to surmise after playing with it for more than a week and running into issues with quality, your recommendation is still...

if you can afford it, get it. 👍

Confirmed it's a defective wheel. Relatively easy exchange at Fry's and so far all functions recognized on the PC and PS3. Thanks to all for your PD suggestions. Will post my impressions later this weekend.

I hope I play GT5 as long as I played GT4, if that is the case then I do believe I am going to get the "value" enjoyment from GT5/T500 that I got from GT4/G25 back in the day.

I know if they deliver the shifter I will - the lack of shifter for me is really what depreciates the overall package value of the T500RS at th current time.

I used the shifter on the G25 all the time playing GT5P (and of course PC games), because for me the total immersion of shifting the car I am driving in the correct way is important to me. If it is a paddle shifter I drive it paddle shifter, if it is an H-gate with a clutch thats how I drive it , if its sequential stick 2 pedal then thats how I drive it, sequential stick with clutch same thing.

Hell, I even swap the G25 shifter to my left side for right hand drive cars

So based on the assumption that the shifter is coming and that a person enjoys the driving activity enough to fully enjoy the 3 pedals of the G27 and one is going to enjoy driving many different cars in GT5 then I am thinking that even with its warts (mostly QC and not functional so far), the T500RS is enough of a jump to be a keeper.

I don't think it is 5 times better, maybe 2 times better because of the deadspot waggle elimination and stiffer pedals out of the box, but I hooked up the G25 again the other day for a little bit (just to drive a Vette with a 6 speed) and the biggest thing that hits you is the wheel is smaller, the pedals squishier and the deadspot a killer with the X1 and FFB set to 10 - but the G25 (and thus the improved G27) is not a piece of junk at all.

Never was.

So if I didnt have the 600 bones to throw at this T500RS I would not be enjoying GT5 an less than I am now because I "only" had a G25, it is just that the T500RS is refined and improved enough in the correct areas (except for no shifter yet) that it increases my enjoyment of GT5 - and to me that is the real litmus test - Am I having a better time and enjoying the activity more?

If the T500RS had not come along and I did not have the XBox360 and Forza3 to use the Fanatec GT2 on, I would not be keeping it over my tried and tested G25 setup and would be either selling it on eBay or sending it back to Germany - because the overall improvment and experience of the GT2 with GT5 was not so much better than the G25 as to offset the warts of the whole package.

The T500RS on the other hand is enough of an improvement to offset any problems (real or imagined) with the whole package/experience justifying its cost to me.

$600 is still a wad of cash and in cold analysis of daylight it is an absurd amount to p!ss away on a steering wheel for 1 game on 1 system, but if you don't have to eat Ramen Noodles and skip the rent payment for the month to pay for it, the T500RS is a "must buy"

RC45,
Thanks a million, that s exactly the information that I was looking for, once again you have been extremely helpful and informative, I think I may finally have enough information to make a decision.

The only things that seem to be giving hesitation at this point are:

1). I don’t like rubber for Motorsport Wheels, I think Leather/ALCANTARA would have made me jump all over this. I know on this one, I would have to just accept it, but if they come out with better replacement wheels later, I would need to purchase a replacement (and who knows how much that will cost!).

2). The Diamond Plate is not something my taste agrees with, I think it is ugly and gimmicky. I may be able to cover this ugly thing, but maybe again they will come out with nicer ones later that can just be swapped out with once you like better.

I love cars and I think if it will give me more of the feel of the Cars and Tracks then I should get it, Of course my common sense keeps telling me it doesn’t make sense, but I guess when it comes to people and high end toys…It never really make sense!!!!

Thanks again, you’re the best!!

It's the Milton (Alpharetta) GA store. They did the right thing and tagged it as Return to Vendor (RTV) and it was put in the return bins. There are no more at that store and I know the Duluth store had 2 last Saturday. Very surprised no one else had picked any up.

Ok I've been running it for a few hours now and I'm completely underwhelmed by the FF on it. I've set it to 10 and there is not much movement. From what I've read of some of you other owners setting it to level 10, I should be having my arms ripped from their sockets.

Have you found driving that much easier with the T500? I'm coming from a G27.

Any advice or feedback as always is welcome.

Quick question for you guys that have it. My wheel seems to have less ffb when turning to the left than right near when centered straight. 12-9. Rather than 12-3 o'clock. Anybody with the same problem? The wheel seems a little off center to the left but almost not noticeable. Haven't done the firmware update yet. Thanks.

You are just not having much luck. I have both a G27 and a T500. You should be feeling plenty of force from the T500, but the feel is a little different than the G27. Surely at 10 you should be feeling a bit overwhelmed by the forces.

I would try the firmware update and see if you still have the problem. I have not experienced that problem before or after update.

Well to quote Bill Murray, "Motherpussbucket." Well I guess another trip to Fry's tomorrow. They're going to love me.

I figured something was up as racing seemed much easier compared to my G27.

All I have is a apple and I don't recall seeing an option for it. Time to ask a friend to borrow a laptop. I did read back and seen the start select mode option and tried that. It seems to have worked but I only got like 5 mins of seat time before having to take off. I'll need to try get some more time in before I make a final evaluation. Thanks MStatic.

HAHA holy **** look at this RC...remember how you said something to another member along the lines of picking up a second wheel and re selling it?

3rd party from amazon.com $1,455.00 :ouch:

If it sells I will be p1ssed..

I have passed along 2 "extra" wheels to folks at cost + shipping... you saying if I held on to them I could have sold em for $1500 a piece? :scared::dunce:

In all seriousness, I think you could have sold them for $650 (but it's nice to know you passed along the wheels at cost - solid move). For $1500 all but the biggest idiot buys a frex or comparable. :dunce: That wheel will NEVER sell on Amazon at that price (although we'll never know, kind of wish it was an ebay auction to see if anyone is dumb enough to pay).

haha

that is too nice! When folks do something of that nature for me I always toss in a few extra bucks for a beer/coffee/coke!

Haha no joke! There's gotta be an idiot dumb enough to buy that though! i dont care if i was rich and in dire need of this wheel i still couldn't buy it for 1500 :dunce:

Wheel #3. Can anyone recommend a good track to test the FFB on? I'm concerned that when I ran my G27 on level 10 FFB constantly that I've desensitized myself to the FFB effects. This wheel definitely has more of a kick than wheel #2.

I would say the nurb. Good kerbs, karusell. Etc.

Personally I think FF set at 10 kills any subtletys anyway.

A Rally stage?

As I read the level settings for FFB it says only for 2 of the logitech wheels. Does it even matter for the T500? I've ran a couple of rally courses and the nurb. The fan kicked on but I would expect that.
