I
hope I play GT5 as long as I played GT4, if that is the case then I do believe I am going to get the "value" enjoyment from GT5/T500 that I got from GT4/G25 back in the day.
I know if they deliver the shifter I will - the lack of shifter for
me is really what depreciates the overall package value of the T500RS at th current time.
I used the shifter on the G25 all the time playing GT5P (and of course PC games), because for me the total immersion of shifting the car I am driving in the correct way is important to me. If it is a paddle shifter I drive it paddle shifter, if it is an H-gate with a clutch thats how I drive it , if its sequential stick 2 pedal then thats how I drive it, sequential stick with clutch same thing.
Hell, I even swap the G25 shifter to my left side for right hand drive cars
So based on the assumption that the shifter is coming and that a person enjoys the driving activity enough to fully enjoy the 3 pedals of the G27 and one is going to enjoy driving many different cars in GT5 then I am thinking that even with its warts (mostly QC and not functional so far), the T500RS is enough of a jump to be a keeper.
I don't think it is 5 times better, maybe 2 times better because of the deadspot waggle elimination and stiffer pedals out of the box, but I hooked up the G25 again the other day for a little bit (just to drive a Vette with a 6 speed) and the biggest thing that hits you is the wheel is smaller, the pedals squishier and the deadspot a killer with the X1 and FFB set to 10 -
but the G25 (and thus the improved G27) is not a piece of junk at all.
Never was.
So if I didnt have the 600 bones to throw at this T500RS I would not be enjoying GT5 an less than I am now because I "only" had a G25, it is just that the T500RS is refined and improved enough in the correct areas (except for no shifter yet) that it
increases my enjoyment of GT5 - and to me that is the real litmus test - Am I having a better time and enjoying the activity more?
If the T500RS had not come along and I did not have the XBox360 and Forza3 to use the Fanatec GT2 on, I would not be keeping it over my tried and tested G25 setup and would be either selling it on eBay or sending it back to Germany - because the
overall improvment and experience of the GT2 with GT5 was not so much better than the G25 as to offset the warts of the whole package.
The T500RS on the other hand
is enough of an improvement to offset any problems (real or imagined) with the whole package/experience justifying its cost to me.
$600 is still a wad of cash and in cold analysis of daylight it is an absurd amount to p!ss away on a steering wheel for 1 game on 1 system, but if you don't have to eat Ramen Noodles and skip the rent payment for the month to pay for it, the T500RS is a "must buy"
