Things that confuse/annoy you

It annoys me when mostly everyone jumps behind a chosen meaning of a song's lyrics because it is what's dictated by the official music video. Even after a few lonely thoughtful people post links to interviews where the song writers themselves say what a song is really about, people seem to just disregard any information that goes against the grain. It feels awful. It's like looking at a red wall and EVERYONE says it's green because that's just what everyone says and if you say it's red then you're just a dumb jerk. :banghead:

Being emailed on a regular basis by a co-worker asking if they emailed something to me. I have 6,804 emails in my sent box. The very first email I sent after starting this job is still in there. If I can't remember if I sent something from a few days ago, it literally takes me less than 10 seconds to find the answer and I don't annoy someone in the process.

I don't get it.

People who have the camera flash light on when having a phone call its very obnoxious.
There's even some phones that pulse their flashlight for every single notification. Isn't vibrations enough? Or even just the screen turning on
Clearly you guys dont regularly work in noisy environments where you can't hear the tone or feel the vibration.

Or been in a meeting where everyone's phones vibrating on the table gets old fast. I'd much rather have the flash.

How about just having the phone lock screen light up everytime? It's not as annoying as the flash

LED notifications are the thing I miss most about my old Droid Mini.

Flashed red for low battery.
Flashed green for new email/text/voice mail.
Flashed blue for 3rd party notifications such as Facebook, etc.

My current Moto phone doesn't do that. I have to look at the screen.

I leave my device on silent most of the time. Unless there’s something urgent to wait on I’d prefer the messages wait for me to check them rather than them summoning me like some sort of slave.

I suppose it helps that my classroom is next to the office so if anything really does need to get through to me the management can deliver it the old fashioned way - on a sticky note.

This is something that confuses me for a while. Why do people brag on about cars for being able to beat other cars with mods? You know, when someone comes into a conversation with "My EK Civic with *insert mods here* just smoked a Camaro ZL1 on the quarter mile!" Is it just how they're proud of the modifications or is there something else I'm missing?

Mind you this was ages ago--before my first BlackBerry...yep, BlackBerry--but on a fairly regular basis I would get to work and fire up my computer to discover two emails from the same person; an original message and a second to ask if I got the original because I hadn't responded yet.

Everyone with whom I worked knew that I would regularly go straight home from an off-site location and if an email was sent a couple hours before the end of the day I might not get it until morning. Not only did they know this, but a great many others shared this experience...that person included.

If I got the second email asking if I got the first email, isn't it safe to assume I got the first email too?

And if it was really that important, there were other ways to reach me.

That depends. Did you reply to it? :p

A bright flash is much more likely to get my attention than my screen coming on since I'm usually not very close to my phone while I'm working.

Never the second and never not the first.
You're nicer than I am. I'm so annoyed by it that I don't reply at all unless it's absolutely necessary.

Which from them it hardly ever is.

Semi-unrelated story from today, I was in the boss' office to ask him a question. He wasn't positive about the answer so he told me to ask Captain Emailer. And since he also doesn't trust them, he wanted me to double check with the guy that used to the task in question. I couldn't help but laugh as I walked out while also thinking why do they still have a job if they're so horrible at it?

Well, for me it usually was necessary, but I was compelled to reply when it wasn't if only to acknowledge that I got it because I had to send out batch emails that required responses and I felt I might not get what I needed if I neglected to reciprocate.

Plus...it can be hard to get things done in an office if people can't be civil with one another.

Captain Emailer

I love office nicknames...

...I shudder to think what some of mine have been.

:scared:

Yeah...I used to wonder that all the time, but having had some experience with that side of management, I know it can be a real PITA (!!!) to not only get rid of someone but to replace them.

My dad's still at the stage where he telephones me to say that he's sent me an email. He'll then tell me what was in the email... making me wonder why he goes through the original 30 minute torture of trying to send an email.

People who ride around this city without wearing their helmets. It’s one thing not to have a helmet and take a foolish chance as so many do but it’s entirely unreasonable to have a helmet strapped to the grab rail hanging off the side of your motorcycle and still not make the effort to wear it.

Out in sticks where there’s minimal traffic I can understand somebody popping to the shops at 15kph for some ciggies without a lid. Here with city traffic and highway speeds only a tool would endanger themselves so readily.

It’s more of a nuisance that the police usually turn a blind eye to it even when it’s in their face, exasperating the problem.

There’s a lot of road carnage here and crappy drivers. I know if there’s a seat belt I’m gonna be wearing even if I may (hopingly) never come to rely on it ever. Why would that not apply to a helmet on what is an equally as dangerous vehicle, if not more so in the wrong hands?

It does apply and anyone that gets a head injury or worse from a motorcycle accident for not wearing a helmet deserves everything they get.

I wouldn’t personally say that somebody deserves any injury just because they aren’t wearing a lid. I’ve seen so much road death over here I’ve become desensitised to much of it. I’ve also seen and know of people killed while riding with full gear, it’s just a matter of the severity of the impact.

Again, in my opinion I don’t think anyone really deserves to get hurt even if the majority of the fault is on their part, but I do think they deserve Darwin Awards if they do bite it because of the absence of a helmet.

I wouldn’t be here now if I hadn’t worn a lid considering some of the crashes I’ve had. I still have the after-effects of a major one despite wearing a top of the line helmet; it certainly saved my life but even still the resulting concussion has left me with a disability.

Sounds an awful lot like my mother-in-law calling my wife about stuff on Facebook. She's gotten better, though; she used to refer to things on Facebook as "Facebooks" ("I posted a Facebook", "I sent you a Facebook"). Old people and technology...

I don't know if I've put this one already... but cars which switch off their sidelight/headlamp (and in some cases lower running light) when the indicator light up. In semi-dark conditions (especially with setting sky behind them) it can be hard to judge the distance/intention/movement of cars waiting to turn across your path, especially if a few of the buggers have lined up.

Both confusing and annoying. And, imo, dangerous.

It confuses me when people say "exasperate" when they mean "exacerbate". It's exasperating.

Easy words to confuse when not used on a daily monthly yearly basis.

Since I’m now in check I don’t suppose I’ll have to worry about mixing them up for another year or two.

I’m sorry that exacerbates you.

Speaking of cars turning things on/off reminded me of this. I hate Hate HATE how newer GM vehicles keep the reverse lights on for MINUTES after the alarm is set. I can't count how many times I wait for someone to back out of a spot just as a courtesy only to inch up and find that there's no one in the car. It's infuriating and I can't wrap my head around any reason for such a design decision. Who's bright idea was that?

Also I recently discovered why I had to keep turning on the location service on my phone. Once a week Verizon performs a device health check and one of the tasks is to automatically shut off location on the device. Why? I really couldn't tell you, but there is an option to keep it from happening, which I enabled.

Then there's me that would be annoyed at having to always be turning it off. My phone has no need to constantly know where I am unless I need it to.
