I think the media is thoroughly burned out on him at this point, especially since he seems to be gravitating away from Tesla and more towards pie-in-the-sky concepts that are becoming increasingly more unrealistic. Once Musk started seriously talking about Mars colonization, that's where a lot of people just tuned him out entirely.
